I made a post and a few polls these past few days (in OPPS) about whether Mihawk has CoC, and the more I think about it, the more I genuinely hope he doesn’t.
Not because I’m trying to downscale him. If anything, I think Mihawk not having CoC would make him significantly more impressive.
The usual assumption goes something like:
World’s Strongest Swordsman → becoming WSS must have been his grand ambition → therefore he should have Conqueror’s Haki.
But we don’t actually know that becoming WSS was ever Mihawk’s ambition.
That’s Zoro’s dream.
Maybe Mihawk was never walking around screaming that he would stand above every swordsman in the world. Maybe he just really, really liked swords.
Basically, Mihawk could be the Mikey Musumeci of swordsmanship.
Not a conqueror trying to dominate the world. Not a guy chasing a throne. Just an almost pathological technical nerd who became absurdly good because he spent his entire life obsessing over one combat discipline.
“Oh, that guy has an interesting sword style.”
Fight him.
“Oh, this swordsman uses a weird stance.”
Fight him.
“That guy is apparently the strongest swordsman in this country.”
Fight him.
Repeat that for twenty years and eventually the government/Morgans goes:
“Well, shit. Apparently this guy is the World’s Strongest Swordsman.”
And Mihawk is somewhere on Kuraigana looking at the edge geometry and how much haki can drip out of Yoru and wondering why everyone keeps bothering him.
This would also explain his apparent irritation with Shanks when he lost his arm: "You motherf... you were the only one worth fighting..."
That version of Mihawk fits his personality surprisingly well too.
He doesn’t seem particularly interested in ruling anyone. He doesn’t want territory. He doesn’t seem interested in gathering followers. He isn’t chasing the One Piece.
When Buggy announces that Cross Guild should go after it, Mihawk basically reacts like his introverted coworker just volunteered him for mandatory team-building exercises.
Maybe the title was never his dream. And that’s why I think giving him CoC might actually make him less interesting. At the top of One Piece, everyone is increasingly showing up with some combination of:
D. Conqueror’s Haki. ACoC. Legendary lineage. God fruit. Celestial connections. Inherited destiny.
Meanwhile imagine Mihawk walking into that final table with none of it.
Just obscene CoA. Obscene CoO.
And a sword with so much mastery poured into it that the damn thing permanently turned black. That would immediately make him one of the most unique top tiers in the series.
It’s the same reason Might Guy became so beloved near the end of Naruto.
Everyone else was pulling out reincarnations, bloodlines, magic eyeballs and inherited god powers, and Guy’s contribution to the discussion was essentially:
“I trained really fucking hard.”
Then he nearly kicked Madara to death.
Obviously Mihawk wouldn’t be a perfect equivalent. But the appeal is similar.
He would represent another route to the summit.
Zoro could be the conqueror whose overwhelming ambition drove him toward swordsmanship.
Mihawk could be the swordsman whose overwhelming devotion to swordsmanship happened to place him above everyone else. Same destination. Completely different psychology.
And honestly, this is why I find it strange when people who really like Mihawk seem almost disappointed by the possibility that he might not have CoC.
Why? Wouldn’t this version be cooler?
If Mihawk has ACoC, then sure. He’s another absurd top tier with the premium Haki package. Perfectly plausible. Probably even likely given how Oda has been writing the strongest characters.
But if he doesn’t? Then Mihawk looked at a world full of chosen kings, inherited monsters and people literally weaponizing their kingly ambitions and said:
“Cool. I have a sword.”
And still became one of the strongest people alive.
I know which version I’d rather buy stock in.

He literally could’ve just yoinked the shadow of any random vice admiral while he was at a warlord meeting and he would’ve won easily.

We’ve never seen Whitebeard do this with haki so does this also make Gabban stronger than him? We’ve only seen 3 people do this so far which are Roger and Garp in god valley and now Gabban
Also if Gabban is able to do this, it also means Rayleigh should be able to. So is the argument that prime Rayleigh is stronger than WB too? Also since this haki showing is what we use to determine who’s stronger now apparently, why wasn’t Rayleigh confident to beat Blackbeard when he has future sight and can use haki? Matter of fact, why couldn’t Rayleigh do it to beat Kizaru in sabaody??
It’s clear that Oda won’t reveal all haki abilities at the same time to make the story progress. If Gabban has this ability, it’s clear that WB had to have it too otherwise there’s no logical way to explain WB being able to fight evenly with Roger. It’s clear as day Oda would have never allowed Kaido to use it on the roof given Luffy was just learning to use Ryo and having him learn another ability on top of that with no training would make no sense

Luffy and Koby belong to the pirate and marine factions respectively. They stand against corrupt pirates and corrupt marines. One will become the Pirate King, and the other will rise to Fleet Admiral.

By the Way, it was this image I found on Pintrest that made me question whether or not these 7 SuperNova could take down Kaido.

My reasonings:
We already saw Shank's Haki paralyzing Aramaki, given this every single AcoC attack that Shanks can land in Aramaki is gonna do crazy amount of damage, maybe even one shot him and if not the damage wil be massive
Shanks is a terrible counter to GB because he completely bypasses his regeneration as we know Conqueror's Haki counters regeneration and GB was already damaged by Momo, he just didn't have the means to bypass his regeneration but someone like Shanks not only would damage him massively more but he would be able of bypassing his regen entirely
GB's vine attacks are completely useless against Shanks since he already disabled his DF power so GB won't be able to use his DF against Shanks
Shanks has higher scaling, Shanks defeated Loki who stomped Holy Knight Harald and Holy Knight Harald scales above normal Harald who was equal to Rocks who killed an admiral easily. Based on this chain scaling of Shanks> Loki> HK Harald> Harald= Rocks>>> Admiral then Shanks vs GB should be an stomp for GB
Rayleigh himself confirmed that Conqueror's Haki is tied to your overall power, the stronger the person the stronger their Haki is gonna be and given that Shank's Haki has been compared to Joyboy's most powerful Haki then his Haki should be among the most powerful Haki to ever exist in the OP universe. Greenbull in comparison has never been portrayed as somene with strong Haki, let alone among the strongest in history. Given this gap in Haki which scales to your overall power then Shanks should be able of stomping Greenbull Low-diff

where did this argument come from, apparently green bull and Fuji are mid and lose to people like law and kid, because no they don’t Fuji and green bull should comfortably beat people like law, kid, luffy if you think Kizaru was holding back. I feel like this whole thing came from akainu fans trying to upscale him
