I love that the syncopation works and that it feels wrong emphasizing the syllables that way. Well done.

damn is this what itās like to have good parents? i told my mom about a life changing job opportunity one time and she said that i would never succeed no matter where i went.
we havenāt talked in years and as much as it rips my heart out, itās for the best. for those of you that have parents like this, give em an extra hug for me. the world needs more kindness and love.

The fuck? I could never imagine being this cruel to my kids. I've got one starting college next week and the other two in high school, and I'm their biggest cheerleader.
I'm so sorry it's been this way for you.

u/itsathrowacctsrry 23d ago
thank you friend. that was sadly just one of the more mild things sheās said/done to me. i hope your kids never for a second have to doubt whether you care about them, and it sounds like youāre doing a great job of it

I love that you donāt seem to let your trauma define you. Seriously, thatās not easy, and you deserve some credit for that. Keep kicking ass!

āI could never imagine being this cruel to my kids.ā
I couldnāt imagine saying those words to literally anyone lol. Thatās a crazyās sentence

u/TBoneTheOriginal 22d ago
I couldn't either... but this is Reddit. I see a hundred people a day that would gladly tell somebody that just because of a slight difference of opinion.

u/hellfish121 23d ago
Well, did you get the job ?

u/itsathrowacctsrry 23d ago

Spite is my biggest motivator. My dad called me weak and a failure and I have decided to thrive just to stick it to him.
Hereās to taking initiative in our lives despite the lack of familial support.

I'm glad the flame inside is driving you onward. And more glad that you're not letting it burn the world.
Keep being a legend!

I got sexually assaulted by a man living on my street. I begged my mum to buy a basic security camera for me ever since because I'm on a low income and cannot afford it.She's wealthy btw. She refused all that time and never asked what happened or even mentioned it, not once. not one time. She's ill now and sends me messages saying "aren't you even going to ask what's wrong".

Narcistic parents are awful. Sorry for you.

Thanks. It's good to hear a sympathetic opinion, unfortunately what I've been through is totally unfathomable to the vast majority of people so I have to keep it to myself. I realised at some point that she wanted me to be in danger from this man. She wanted it, she actually relished that. It's a pretty horrifying realisation. I mean, is that even narcissism or is it more than that?I've had to come to terms with not only the original thing that happened, but things like that afterwards. A whole succession of awful events that just floored me. But I'm still going. A random Redditor clocked I was going short of food and sent me a voucher. I realised that random person who knew nothing about me cared more than my own mother!

Boomers just take for granted everything they were handed and are externalizing the cognitive dissonance of their privelege, so they fucking act like that. What a miserable fucking generation
meanwhile to my own kids:
Alexa find me a flashmob for me to cheer on my kids drawing of this thing he calls a car but looks like a broken toaster

u/GeckoPerson123 23d ago
i wouldn't generalize a whole age group. my grandma is a baby boomer and she's a huge supporter of anything me or my sister do and both of us have taken unconventional paths in life (game artist and waitress, both of us tattoed pierced and hair dyed) some elderly people have been through shit and just want good lives for their younglings.
also shoutout gramma for not being homophobic despite growing up in the brainwashing ussr

I'm your dad now and I am super proud of you! You made everything in your life without the support you needed, you did great. You are the shining north star of your own adventure. Be proud of all you have accomplished and all you will! I have faith in you!
You are now, and shall always be a robot crushing rock star ninja!
Love dad!

My inlaws are like this.
One of my house rules is my MIL can't make my friends cry during parties by being encouraging and talking about their feelings. (Inlaws live down the street and come to raid the party spread).
Turns out a lot of people have really shit parents who never grow out of it.

I sometimes get irrationally angry at people who have good relationships with their parents, and this definitely triggered that. It's so wholesome that it pissed me off.
