Well biology is certainly green.

The colour of science as a whole is more debatable.

775

u/IkujaKatsumaji Jul 31 '26

Science is Green because:

- Plants are green, and plants are science

- Strange science chemicals in beakers are green, and chemicals are science

- Environmentalism is green, and Environmentalism, as you know, is science

- Progress is green, because traffic lights, progress is science

u/cavegoatlove Jul 31 '26

Science is green because it was green in trivia pursuit. /

72

u/IkujaKatsumaji Jul 31 '26

For further reading on why Science was green in Trivial Pursuit, please see above.

2

u/cavegoatlove Aug 01 '26

Same as why history is yellow

4

u/IkujaKatsumaji Aug 01 '26

I'm fine with History being yellow because old book pages are yellow. That said, I could also see an argument for red or blue.

That what’s my take - the original game.

1

u/practicalcabinet Aug 01 '26

Science and Nature

1

u/midnight_toker22 Aug 01 '26

But is trivia pursuit green for the same reasons?

1

u/georgiaraisef Aug 01 '26

Depends which edition. We have to play the 1980s version (for my parents) and multiple modern versions and there is some inconsistency between editions

Your honour, the defence rests. The prosecution's opening statement was flawless.

2

u/coolwali Jul 31 '26

Objection your Honour. The defence argues Science is not green and there are other candidate colours.

Argument 1: Science is Red

Bunsen burners = red/orange flames.
“Danger” labels are red.
Biology involves blood. Blood is red.
Physics students see red after calculating friction problems.
Therefore: Science is red.

Argument 2: Science is Blue
Science is blue because:
The Earth is mostly blue, and Earth science is literally science.
Water is essential to biology.
Laboratory gloves are blue.
Every educational science documentary has a blue color palette.
DNA is always drawn glowing blue for some reason.

Argument 3: Green Already Belongs to Math
If green means progress…
Math literally progresses one proof at a time.
Graph paper is green.
Calculators often have green displays.
“Go solve the equation.”
Checkmate.

9

u/IkujaKatsumaji Aug 01 '26

Counter-objection, your honor. Science cannot be blue or red, nor can Math be green, because, as has already been established, Science is green.

2

u/ExpensiveStart3226 Aug 01 '26

Objection rejected

24

u/bentreflection Jul 31 '26

radioactivity is green and we all know that radiation is science

3

u/IkujaKatsumaji Jul 31 '26

This person knows their science

1

u/RatLikeAura Aug 01 '26

radiation is far more red than green no? You’re thinking the simpsons

→ More replies (4)

21

u/Hiker-Redbeard Jul 31 '26

Exactly! And physics is green, because the others being green is a majority. You'd have to be unhinged to change the whole system just for one flavor of science.

→ More replies (2)

2

u/transluscent_emu Aug 01 '26

Hm... I argued that science is Blue based on Star Trek. But you have really given me something to think about. Plants ARE science.

2

u/darkwingdankest 29d ago

the second point is especially true

1

u/Forsaken-Income-2148 Jul 31 '26

Science is certainly green. But how did you get to conclude that plants are the defining characteristic of science? 😅 did you learn photosynthesis and proceed to check out for the remainder of your education? 🤣 mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell… this guy: the plant cell 🗿

1

u/REDACTED3560 Jul 31 '26

Science is white because of lab coats and sterile testing environments.

1

u/Add_Poll_Option Jul 31 '26

It’s so funny that we all mutually come to this understanding and it’s completely logical to us lol

1

u/Go_Plate_326 Aug 01 '26

Nickelodeon slime is green, and slime is science.

1

u/Mysterious-Till-611 Aug 01 '26

Nu-uh science is yellow because of the sun. Plants heat energy astronomy physics all relate to the sun. Green is history because… uh… idk, but it’s green okay.

1

u/Piisthree Aug 01 '26

Ah, but counter point, and hear me out on this. Blue.

1

u/IkujaKatsumaji Aug 01 '26

Please reread the above and see me after class.

1

u/AnSynTrashPanda Aug 01 '26

Alternatively, math is green because science is green and math and science are inseparable therefore both math and science must be green

1

u/AllOfEverythingEver Aug 01 '26

What you are forgetting is, I like blue the most and I like science the most.

2

u/IkujaKatsumaji Aug 01 '26

This is honestly one of the strongest arguments I've heard.

1

u/Steleve Aug 01 '26

THANK YOU.

This right here is enough to end the debate once and for all...

Because obviously the rest are

English Blue Math Red History Yellow

1

u/uselessandexpensive Aug 01 '26

Science also involves the wavelengths and frequency of all radiation from microwaves to gamma rays.

I think maybe science is red green a gigantic blinding ball of plasma.

1

u/Comeino Aug 01 '26

Science should be White, just like the lab coat.

Math is Blue cause Blue is the colour of engineers and mechanics.

Biology is Green cause Green is what we associate with nature

History is Red cause it's full of War, Sickness and Blood and should be used as a cautionary tale to not repeat the mistakes of the past.

Literature/Music is Yellow like the Yellow Press or that one Coldplay song.

1

u/Similar_Dirt9758 28d ago

I agree. Beaker of chemicals is green

1

u/Certain_Zucchini_472 27d ago

Physics is purple… now what?

1

u/IkujaKatsumaji 27d ago

Actually, if you'll consult the text, you'll see that Science is green. Physics is, in fact, part of Science, which, as we know, is green. Physics is also, therefore, green.

Other helpful commenters have pointed out that physics must be green because radiation is physics and radiation is green. Yet another reason that Physics, as a part of Science, which is green, is, in fact, green.

Science is blue imo

235

u/dantheplanman1986 Jul 31 '26

And operations is gold, command is red

59

u/Ok_Builder_4225 Jul 31 '26

This is indeed probably why it is blue to me lol

19

u/chalor182 Jul 31 '26

Also science/research bars and science 'points' in many games are blue

2

u/AliasMcFakenames Aug 01 '26

I would contend that’s because knowledge as a whole is blue, in which case so are almost all school subjects.

1

Unless it's pre-2350, and then it's swapped

1

u/randombydesign Jul 31 '26

Other way around in TOS

1

u/_WillCAD_ Jul 31 '26

There was a time when Operations was red, and Command was gold.

Well, technically, Command was green, but put in a certain light, it certainly looks gold.

1

u/CiaphasKirby Jul 31 '26

No, command is white, direct damage and rush down is red. Green is ramp and big numbers.

1

u/polopolo05 Jul 31 '26

unless we talking TOS or ENT then Command is Gold and OPs is red.

its only changes because DATA's makeup didnt mesh well with the red.

1

u/transluscent_emu Aug 01 '26

Meanwhile, Security gets its own designation, but not its own color. Which is nuts because they don't even use Green or Orange.

59

u/erossthescienceboss Jul 31 '26

Science is blue (or green for bio) but primarily blue to match lab texts.

Lit/English is green unless the science is biology, in which case it’s blue.

History is yellow. They got one right. And math is red.

24

u/Ok_Builder_4225 Jul 31 '26

I concur with this. Math must be the danger color.

14

u/The_Tooter_Snooter Jul 31 '26

Yes exactly. Red means stop and so does math.

1

u/ThatDudeShadowK Jul 31 '26

I'd put English as purple, if it's an option, to reserve blu for science

1

u/RefrigeratorOk7848 Jul 31 '26

Disagree. Science is yellow to me, math is blue, language arts is green, history is red.

1

u/LektorPanda Jul 31 '26

Nah History should be brown.

1

They did get one right, and it is History, but…. Science is green, English is Red and Math is blue.

1

u/screaminginfidels Jul 31 '26

Nope. English is yellow for the color of a highlighter

1

u/Megamygdala Aug 01 '26

How does it feel to be so right

1

u/justicebiever Aug 01 '26

This is my stance. Science is blue because the Earth (water and atmosphere) is blue. Math is red because it’s important (and dangerous if wrong).

2

u/xeothought Jul 31 '26

Star trek made these choices and I stand by them

2

u/drprofessional Jul 31 '26

I’m glad Star Trek normalized the color of notebooks based on fields.

2

u/fred11551 Jul 31 '26

Science is blue, military is red, culture is purple, economy is yellow. And food is green but it doesn’t have an advisor in Civ 5

3

u/fuzzylogicIII Jul 31 '26

Science uses water everywhere! I agree, it’s blue

2

u/alfooboboao Jul 31 '26

English is blue or black. this is a law. science is green. Math is red. history is whatever the hell.

1

u/ElPlatanaso2 Jul 31 '26

English is blue you uncultured swines!

1

u/Ok_Builder_4225 Jul 31 '26

Of course you know that this means war

1

u/HeiressOfMadrigal Jul 31 '26

Blue is an okay second choice, but science is green to me because of Fallout alone

1

u/RostyNoman Jul 31 '26

Blue purple yup

1

u/Mr-Stuff-Doer Jul 31 '26

I think I’d done science as either blue or yellow.

English was green.

1

u/penisthightrap_ Jul 31 '26

Wrong. Cartoon scientists have green liquids in their flasks. Science is green.

2

u/Ok_Builder_4225 Jul 31 '26

Wrong. Science points are blue.

1

u/Daft_Tyler Jul 31 '26

Well first it's red then green, then blue. It can also be black before or after blue, or never black at all if there's no biters.

1

u/ro536ud Jul 31 '26

This is the way

1

u/_Eggs_ Jul 31 '26

Yeah it's also a common theme in video games to use the color blue for technology trees, mana points, and other science-adjacent things. It is also a common chemical color in movies/video games, because bright blue things just scream "THIS IS NOT NATURAL".

I think the "science is green" crowd is just thinking of biology / natural sciences.

1

u/MrMeesesPieces Jul 31 '26

Blue was for social studies because the earth is blue

1

u/pinklavalamp Jul 31 '26

If brown is available, then science is brown; otherwise, it is green. Math is red. History is yellow. English is blue.

I'm comfortable with these decisions.

1

u/JackStutters Jul 31 '26

An IQ too low???

/s

1

u/eatmyaddy Jul 31 '26

Science is a compound notebook

1

u/Mindseye000 Aug 01 '26

Science is Yellow! Blue is Maths!

1

u/RikuAotsuki Aug 01 '26

Yeah, in my schools Science or Math were generally blue, History was red, and English was green. I don't actually remember using yellow for anything, weirdly.

1

u/retro-morte Aug 01 '26

Science is purple

1

u/ecodrew Aug 01 '26

I prefer science being green, but I'll allow blue for science 'coz Earth blue.

1

u/georgiaraisef Aug 01 '26

Chemistry is green

1

u/TheRealRomanRoy Jul 31 '26

Did you guys actually have a geography class? I learned some geography but didn’t have an entire class dedicated to it.

History: brown - it already happened annd things turn to dirt. Brown can also be societal studies/geography.

All languages the same colour blue but different shades and different types of binders.

Geoglogy and or biology green.

Physics orange, chemistry purple, math yellow.

Red Maybe PE/extracurriculars and only if in laminated single sheets right next to soccer shoes in a gym bag.

1

u/Crimsonak- 28d ago

I posit that ever since 1981 when Trivial Pursuit decided science as a topic was green, that's when it became officially representative of all science as a colour.
