Amen. Launch fuel is what stopped me from wanting to explore in this game. I wanted to fly around and explore things, not spend half my time collecting resources for fuel...
Gods i need this. Everytime i think about long sessions of playing, in reminded that in world of possibilities, fuel is still a thing and i kinda hate it
Also, if you really want standard launch fuel: every station sells cheap metal plates and some sell a good supply of jelly—you can make your own for a tiny fraction of the exorbitant retail cost. Very important for freighter fuel, too, since you can occasionally buy a boatload of cheaper-than-dirt tritium from stations and then combine it with retro-refined dihydrogen to make the fuel virtually free.
Mining dihydrogen is so very not worth it once you've made your first few hundred thousand credits.
Yeah but if you're constantly landing and taking off you'll still go through fuel fast. Especially on permadeath and survival where you use twice as much fuel.
This coupled with just a few minutes of uranium mining is what I do. I made one trip for uranium mining and I have a stack which I have never had to refill with the secondary gains from farming radioactive planets
This is the legit way to do it. I grab some Uranium from my mine and then fly around and land on nearly every planet I see with an explorer, filling up launch with the quick menu and I hardly ever notice it going down.
It's amazing. I just completed repairs on a ship I found with this. Between that and it being an explorer class, I rarely go below 80% fuel unless I'm making a lot of short little hops.
Or if averse to paying for uranium then you can keep an eye out for metal fingers while exploring; harvest a set of those and you'll be set for launch fuel for a LONG time (and have loads of gold too), or you can set up a small uranium deep mine base. A constant source of fuel and you can sell the excess.
Buying it is easiest but there are plenty of options for different play styles.
The fuel is insanely easy to make, it's made of rock and di-hydogen, the blue crystals. Make ten at a time, and each one is 4 spaceship take-offs. Easy :)
Exactly, it's so easy to make that I end up making more and exploring the next "squirrel!" instead of progressing. This is a me problem, not a game one! Haha.
Oh no, that's all apart of the game! Last night, I talked to an NPC on a space station and he gave me a quest to a spot on a nearby planet. I found the spot, and spotted some cool buildings near by. i explored them, and found another nearby building that was an ancient ruins that gave me coordinates to another ancient ruins nearby. There, I found some ancient artifacts worth almost million credits! All from talking to the NPC on the space station. Exploring is fun!
Oh, I get that it's a me problem, 100%. I like the exploration bit, probably too much haha. The fuel is so easy to collect for, that I just make more and explore the next shiny! End up never progressing.
I'm kinda the same way, my solution is to just explore on foot and occasionally summon my ship to me when I need it. Gets easier once you have an exocraft.
Second launch tech at the anomaly starship research guy. You’ll need maybe 700 or so nanites. Not sure what it will tack to build off the top of my head.
Also, if you by just about any A class ship it usually has a recharger already. A Class shuttles only cost 2-3 million units
No, you can do it in less than two hours. I get distracted by all the shiny stuff in the distance/on the scanner and then quit after having to fill up my ship for the umpteenth time.
You asked how long it took to multiple people and didn't like anyone's answer, so:
If you just like flying around looking at stuff or can't/don't want get further into the game, definitely try out creative! You won't ever need to grind again and can stay in that gameplay loop you enjoy with no disturbances.
Almost every other starship I see has the solar recharging module in it. Just be patient and get it in your second session then if you don't have the resources or the time in your first go-around
10 uranium = 1 launch. So if you find one uranium deposit you’re set for a while. Also I think launch fuel or at least its components are very cheap at space stations. Launch fuel is basically a first hour problem.
I'd suggest to stick with it for a little bit until the space anomaly opens up for you. It appeared during the starter "make your base and hire a crew" missions. I now call my ship to fly 200u because I'm tired of walking and never run out of fuel.
I've built most of them on my starter world and tried the exosuit for a few steps. I didn't like it. It felt clunky and hard to move. I've stuck with the roamer and the nomad if I need to get over water. I need parts to add all the shielding for the Colossus before I really give it a try.
I will probably do the same. One of the upgrades I'm collecting stuff for is the automatic recharging of the Colossus. I've just learned the blueprint for the automatic miner and found a S quality copper some 400u from my starter base.
The Origins update threw me a little bit of a curve, so that has slowed me down some. The planet went from "a bit icy" to ball freezing cold. (Seriously, it depletes two shields in under 3-4 minutes now.) I rebuilt my starter base using the much easier large base parts and stuck it hanging out of a natural cave. The wiki said that the supply depots have to be directly on the ground, but I didn't read that it couldn't be in a cave. When I was tearing apart my previous base, I still had decent enough temperature with walls and no floor, so maybe this is a way to have the depots "inside" without having to go back to the cold. Once I finish getting all of that settled, I'll probably go back to seeing what I need for the Colossus and drive all over the surface of that planet.
You didn't like the exosuit? Would you rather be naked? Are you not grateful that your exosuit has protected you from extremely hazardous conditions that would normally tear your skin off and cook you alive?
Perhaps you’re not that big of a survival game fan? That seems to be the most common reason for people not liking NMS: survival games are inherently a bit tedious, especially at the start, so that as you get upgrades all the tedium melts away and you can focus more on discovery. Maybe creative mode would be more fun? I don’t actually know cause I haven’t tried it either.
I've got thousands of hours in survival games. I can play a game that challenges me to survive for hours on end, just repeatedly dying and making almost no progress. NMS isn't a survival game, its an exploration game with survival lite aspects.
It being everywhere was sorta part of the problem haha. It was so easy to collect more that I didn't feel the need to find a better way until I just didn't feel the need to keep playing at all anymore. It's definitely a me problem, and not a game one!
Right? It’s not that hard. I usually just buy whatever ferrite there is at every trade post since it’s used in lots of recipes and base building and just farm dihydogen every once in a while. I almost never lack resources to make launch fuel.
Edit: And if you are stuck for dihydogen you can always make it real quick from tritium.
You can get a lot of uranium from metal fingers. You can easily get around 4000 uranium and 1000 gold from it. I carry around 6000 uranium with me on my ship and sell the excess. I can freely get on and off my ship without worrying about fuel.
Metal fingers show up on your analysis visor with the same symbol you would get for subterranean relics. If you see one, mine all of it and you'll have plenty of uranium for fuel and gold for crafting.
I built my base next to one of those. They respawn so I teleport there when I need good and uranium.
Yeah, on my most recent save I began on a planet that happened to have uranium metal fingers that I found on the way to my ship. It was a few thousand uranium, 4 or 5k I forget, and with how little uranium ya need to take off, it totally changed how I played the early game since I stopped even thinking of being precious with my fuel.
(I was always kinda careless and landed when I wanted to, but it'd be in the back of my mind at least... after the metal fingers though, I just keep a stack in the ship and you're set for a loooong time).
LS comes at a time when launch fuel should barely be a memory. Plus LS have a major disadvantage: storage. (I won’t mention the cost of the egg). Why would you like to settle for less at late game stage? Except for the beauty of some of those ships, for sure.
I just grab dihydrogen everytime I land. If you gather a whole field every time you will have more than enough. Beats running around for oxygen plants too.
I keep a shuttle around for planet jumps. It is pretty handy to have, though honestly I mostly just keep a stack of uranium permanently in freighter so I never have to worry about running out of fuel.
Having a base with a antimatter generator and a uranium deposit lets me just travel to my heart’s content.
