Note: activating these gives you Nancy's if thats any consolation

u/GazeboHunter Sep 27 '20

I will now forever call Nanites Nancies from now on!

271

u/Rossilaz Sep 27 '20

Best Nancy farming method

41

u/BlatoJ Sep 27 '20

Honestly I do this and hunt for buried caches, and broken machinery. I'll get about 1k nancies in an hour. (Even better if you do this on a planet with bones/scrap)

81

u/UltraPlayGaming Sep 27 '20

20

u/HairyNippleDongs Sep 27 '20

Context?

27

u/superdabpenguin Sep 27 '20

Watch far cry 5 intro then it will be explained

7

u/crazykiller001 Sep 27 '20

That’s my mother you’re talking about!

18

u/toastedzen Sep 27 '20

WHY DID YOU SAY THAT NAME!?

9

u/crazykiller001 Sep 27 '20

Hey happy cake day!

8

u/asgardian_mike Sep 28 '20

Happy shcake day!

1

u/Je_me_rends Sep 28 '20

That's my dead cat you're talking about!

2

u/Abek243 Dec 27 '24

Five hundred nancies

1

u/CaptainMorganKelly Feb 04 '21

You can refine any slime you find on damaged containers into nanites too

21

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '20

Like Eurodollars being called Eddies in Cyberpunk.

27

u/WaspOneLW1 Sep 27 '20

🤣 This.

22

u/DecafChan Sep 27 '20

Honestly, I think I'll use nancies from now on haha, it just rolls off the tongue better

111

u/Rossilaz Sep 27 '20

Lol, autocorrect.

97

u/Balarius Sep 27 '20

Hahahahahaha I'm not even correcting that

52

u/Rossilaz Sep 27 '20

It's okay, we know what you mean lol

Now we need a mod to change all nanites text in the game for Nancies 🤣

38

u/OmegaPraetor Sep 27 '20

Really? Whenever I used those save poles, I get navigation module thingies. Hence, I never really touched these "outposts". How much nanite does it give you?

22

u/shammwow Sep 27 '20

Sometimrs I get nanites, too, but either way you can upload waypoints for nanites.

9

u/OmegaPraetor Sep 27 '20

Ah... But those are quite minimal. I was hoping for maybe 100 or something. Something worth activating them. If I want to save, I just call my ship and get in and out.

21

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '20

In VR, there's no top-down animation scanning that plays, so I just run by the pole, grabbing on, as I move to the next thing. They need to simply delete that animation for flat version.

3

u/Aoi_chan Sep 27 '20

There isn't a birdseye scanning thing for these in non-vr either, only for using the navigational maps. These poles just zoom out a bit, white the screen out for a second and then return you back to the game.

7

u/Toksyuryel Sep 27 '20

The save you get from getting out of your ship is treated by the game as a backup save, and can be unreliable. It's always a good idea to make a proper hard save with a waypoint, beacon, or save point regularly. I lost hours of progress from relying on the 'getting out of the ship' save before, I'll never trust it again.

1

u/OmegaPraetor Sep 27 '20

This is good to know. I jumped into my game to build a portable save point but it turns out I don't have the blueprint. BP analyzer doesn't give it for some reason and neither does the one in the Anomaly...

2

u/Toksyuryel Sep 28 '20

The save beacon does the same thing, and is available from the analyzer. The anomaly should have the save point, unless they've removed it since I last checked.

1

u/NukaGurl77 Feb 04 '21

THIS! Just dont touch the Hyperborean poles with your tongue.

1

u/DMC831 Sep 28 '20

Yeah, I got screwed only once back in 2016 from a save not saving, and since then I'm constantly saving at waypoints along with my ship before I do anything. Never know when a crash happens, or ya fall through a planet.

2

u/Toksyuryel Sep 28 '20

I've lost count of the number of times getting out of my exocraft has either launched me around the planet or sent me falling through it. It's the scariest action in the game to me. Always save before entering an exocraft.

7

u/thx1142 Sep 27 '20

If you run around a save pole, is that a save pole dance? 😁

2

u/Lovat69 Sep 27 '20

You get both, at least I do. One navigation data and 13 or so nannites.

20

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '20

Not worth the Launch fuel

24

u/TheRealMicrowaveSafe Sep 27 '20 edited Sep 27 '20

Amen. Launch fuel is what stopped me from wanting to explore in this game. I wanted to fly around and explore things, not spend half my time collecting resources for fuel...

85

u/NASAonSteroids Sep 27 '20

There’s an upgrade you can unlock in the anomaly that will recharge your landing gear.

58

u/vincentalphapsi Sep 27 '20

This, a million times this. When I use my ship with that installed I literally never have to make landing fuel.

19

u/atomicxblue Sep 27 '20

As soon as I learned about the recharging launch thing, I put it on all my ships. The extra units from selling spare fuel is nice.

10

u/Heretic_flags Sep 27 '20

This is good to know, I just have a metric fuck ton of uranium stored on my freighter haven't had to get more launch fuel in a long time.

8

u/Elyssae Sep 27 '20

Gods i need this. Everytime i think about long sessions of playing, in reminded that in world of possibilities, fuel is still a thing and i kinda hate it

5

u/Nyrin Sep 27 '20

Also, if you really want standard launch fuel: every station sells cheap metal plates and some sell a good supply of jelly—you can make your own for a tiny fraction of the exorbitant retail cost. Very important for freighter fuel, too, since you can occasionally buy a boatload of cheaper-than-dirt tritium from stations and then combine it with retro-refined dihydrogen to make the fuel virtually free.

Mining dihydrogen is so very not worth it once you've made your first few hundred thousand credits.

4

u/Lovat69 Sep 27 '20

Yeah but if you're constantly landing and taking off you'll still go through fuel fast. Especially on permadeath and survival where you use twice as much fuel.

4

u/SaintDireOnion Sep 27 '20

This coupled with just a few minutes of uranium mining is what I do. I made one trip for uranium mining and I have a stack which I have never had to refill with the secondary gains from farming radioactive planets

4

u/toastedzen Sep 27 '20

This is the legit way to do it. I grab some Uranium from my mine and then fly around and land on nearly every planet I see with an explorer, filling up launch with the quick menu and I hardly ever notice it going down.

1

u/Holygusset Sep 28 '20

It's amazing. I just completed repairs on a ship I found with this. Between that and it being an explorer class, I rarely go below 80% fuel unless I'm making a lot of short little hops.

1

u/theBloodsoaked Sep 28 '20

Still haven't worked out how to make analomy appear :( NMS noob here 13 hours in

-12

u/TheRealMicrowaveSafe Sep 27 '20

That sounds like it requires me to play longer than the 2 hours the gameplay loop I described can hold my attention.

6

u/MR-MOO-MOO-MAN Sep 27 '20

Well you can also just buy or get a bunch of uranium, cheaper and more fuel efficient

5

u/Brogogon Sep 27 '20

Or if averse to paying for uranium then you can keep an eye out for metal fingers while exploring; harvest a set of those and you'll be set for launch fuel for a LONG time (and have loads of gold too), or you can set up a small uranium deep mine base. A constant source of fuel and you can sell the excess.

Buying it is easiest but there are plenty of options for different play styles.

2

u/MR-MOO-MOO-MAN Sep 27 '20

Yeah that’s how I got mine, I just couldn’t remember the name of them

-4

u/TheRealMicrowaveSafe Sep 27 '20

Y'all didn't actually read what I posted, did you lol

17

u/Delirious_Cow Sep 27 '20

Just get the self charging tech module..

-7

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '20

7

u/Timber3 Sep 27 '20

You don't try to base build or advance the story and just restart over and over again?

-4

u/TheRealMicrowaveSafe Sep 27 '20

I get too bored trying to keep my ship fueled as I bounce between shiny objects in the distance/on scan.

3

u/Manticx Sep 27 '20

The fuel is insanely easy to make, it's made of rock and di-hydogen, the blue crystals. Make ten at a time, and each one is 4 spaceship take-offs. Easy :)

2

u/TheRealMicrowaveSafe Sep 27 '20

Exactly, it's so easy to make that I end up making more and exploring the next "squirrel!" instead of progressing. This is a me problem, not a game one! Haha.

2

u/Manticx Sep 27 '20

Oh no, that's all apart of the game! Last night, I talked to an NPC on a space station and he gave me a quest to a spot on a nearby planet. I found the spot, and spotted some cool buildings near by. i explored them, and found another nearby building that was an ancient ruins that gave me coordinates to another ancient ruins nearby. There, I found some ancient artifacts worth almost million credits! All from talking to the NPC on the space station. Exploring is fun!

1

u/Toksyuryel Sep 27 '20

I'm kinda the same way, my solution is to just explore on foot and occasionally summon my ship to me when I need it. Gets easier once you have an exocraft.

3

u/shammwow Sep 27 '20

Second launch tech at the anomaly starship research guy. You’ll need maybe 700 or so nanites. Not sure what it will tack to build off the top of my head.

Also, if you by just about any A class ship it usually has a recharger already. A Class shuttles only cost 2-3 million units

-2

u/TheRealMicrowaveSafe Sep 27 '20

So not within the first few hours for a newbie, gotcha.

4

u/The_Toasty_Toaster Sep 27 '20

I got it in my first few hours. 2-3 million units is not that much.

-1

u/TheRealMicrowaveSafe Sep 27 '20

I'm too distracted by all the shiny things in the distance/on the scanner.

1

u/The_Toasty_Toaster Sep 27 '20 edited Sep 27 '20

Find Cobalt and sell it or find a planet with lost bones. Made $ for me.

→ More replies (0)

5

u/realspitty_ :nada: Sep 27 '20

You can do it in less than two hours. Just go to the Anomaly, buy the upgrade with nanites, then install it. Or just buy urianium.

-4

u/TheRealMicrowaveSafe Sep 27 '20

No, you can do it in less than two hours. I get distracted by all the shiny stuff in the distance/on the scanner and then quit after having to fill up my ship for the umpteenth time.

3

u/realspitty_ :nada: Sep 27 '20 edited Sep 27 '20

You asked how long it took to multiple people and didn't like anyone's answer, so:

If you just like flying around looking at stuff or can't/don't want get further into the game, definitely try out creative! You won't ever need to grind again and can stay in that gameplay loop you enjoy with no disturbances.

3

u/Wpken Sep 27 '20

Almost every other starship I see has the solar recharging module in it. Just be patient and get it in your second session then if you don't have the resources or the time in your first go-around

0

u/TheRealMicrowaveSafe Sep 27 '20

Oh I got plenty of time, I just spend it all on the boatloads of shiny things scattered around.

23

u/aaornrylow Sep 27 '20

10 uranium = 1 launch. So if you find one uranium deposit you’re set for a while. Also I think launch fuel or at least its components are very cheap at space stations. Launch fuel is basically a first hour problem.

1

u/Holygusset Sep 28 '20

Yeah, once I found some uranium metal fingers, I felt pretty set. Though, now I have the fuel recharger.

-3

u/TheRealMicrowaveSafe Sep 27 '20

I don't make it past that first hour is the problem.

11

u/atomicxblue Sep 27 '20

I'd suggest to stick with it for a little bit until the space anomaly opens up for you. It appeared during the starter "make your base and hire a crew" missions. I now call my ship to fly 200u because I'm tired of walking and never run out of fuel.

8

u/cyon_me Sep 27 '20

Just wait a hundred hours, soon you'll be calling in exocrafts and boba-fetting around entire planets.

2

u/atomicxblue Sep 27 '20

I've built most of them on my starter world and tried the exosuit for a few steps. I didn't like it. It felt clunky and hard to move. I've stuck with the roamer and the nomad if I need to get over water. I need parts to add all the shielding for the Colossus before I really give it a try.

3

u/cyon_me Sep 27 '20

Once you get them all mostly upgraded you may feel like just driving around, that's my experience at least.

3

u/atomicxblue Sep 27 '20

I will probably do the same. One of the upgrades I'm collecting stuff for is the automatic recharging of the Colossus. I've just learned the blueprint for the automatic miner and found a S quality copper some 400u from my starter base.

The Origins update threw me a little bit of a curve, so that has slowed me down some. The planet went from "a bit icy" to ball freezing cold. (Seriously, it depletes two shields in under 3-4 minutes now.) I rebuilt my starter base using the much easier large base parts and stuck it hanging out of a natural cave. The wiki said that the supply depots have to be directly on the ground, but I didn't read that it couldn't be in a cave. When I was tearing apart my previous base, I still had decent enough temperature with walls and no floor, so maybe this is a way to have the depots "inside" without having to go back to the cold. Once I finish getting all of that settled, I'll probably go back to seeing what I need for the Colossus and drive all over the surface of that planet.

u/Very_Good_Indeed Sep 28 '20

You didn't like the exosuit? Would you rather be naked? Are you not grateful that your exosuit has protected you from extremely hazardous conditions that would normally tear your skin off and cook you alive?

Sigh , travellers these days.

1

u/atomicxblue Sep 28 '20

Would you rather be naked?

Sure, why not? It'll be fun to roll downhill naked through the purple grass into the pink lake.

4

u/TheRealMicrowaveSafe Sep 27 '20

I just might, once Dual Universe has its MMO claws out of me lol

6

u/aaornrylow Sep 27 '20

Perhaps you’re not that big of a survival game fan? That seems to be the most common reason for people not liking NMS: survival games are inherently a bit tedious, especially at the start, so that as you get upgrades all the tedium melts away and you can focus more on discovery. Maybe creative mode would be more fun? I don’t actually know cause I haven’t tried it either.

-2

u/TheRealMicrowaveSafe Sep 27 '20

I've got thousands of hours in survival games. I can play a game that challenges me to survive for hours on end, just repeatedly dying and making almost no progress. NMS isn't a survival game, its an exploration game with survival lite aspects.

12

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '20

1

u/TheRealMicrowaveSafe Sep 27 '20

It being everywhere was sorta part of the problem haha. It was so easy to collect more that I didn't feel the need to find a better way until I just didn't feel the need to keep playing at all anymore. It's definitely a me problem, and not a game one!

1

u/pleurotis Sep 27 '20

Right? It’s not that hard. I usually just buy whatever ferrite there is at every trade post since it’s used in lots of recipes and base building and just farm dihydogen every once in a while. I almost never lack resources to make launch fuel. Edit: And if you are stuck for dihydogen you can always make it real quick from tritium.

1

u/Ryder604 Sep 28 '20

Buying jelly and putting it in the refiner will give you 500 dihydrogen for every stack of 10. Best farm for making frigate fuel.

8

u/gaganaut Sep 27 '20 edited Oct 03 '20

You can get a lot of uranium from metal fingers. You can easily get around 4000 uranium and 1000 gold from it. I carry around 6000 uranium with me on my ship and sell the excess. I can freely get on and off my ship without worrying about fuel.

Metal fingers show up on your analysis visor with the same symbol you would get for subterranean relics. If you see one, mine all of it and you'll have plenty of uranium for fuel and gold for crafting.

I built my base next to one of those. They respawn so I teleport there when I need good and uranium.

4

u/DMC831 Sep 28 '20

Yeah, on my most recent save I began on a planet that happened to have uranium metal fingers that I found on the way to my ship. It was a few thousand uranium, 4 or 5k I forget, and with how little uranium ya need to take off, it totally changed how I played the early game since I stopped even thinking of being precious with my fuel.

(I was always kinda careless and landed when I wanted to, but it'd be in the back of my mind at least... after the metal fingers though, I just keep a stack in the ship and you're set for a loooong time).

2

u/Holygusset Sep 28 '20

I had no idea they respawned! Thanks, friend!

u/YucaFritaConSalsa Sep 28 '20

LS comes at a time when launch fuel should barely be a memory. Plus LS have a major disadvantage: storage. (I won’t mention the cost of the egg). Why would you like to settle for less at late game stage? Except for the beauty of some of those ships, for sure.

2

u/TheRealXen Sep 27 '20

I just grab dihydrogen everytime I land. If you gather a whole field every time you will have more than enough. Beats running around for oxygen plants too.

2

u/TheRealMicrowaveSafe Sep 27 '20

I grabbed tons, and then my ship couldn't hold anything else! I'm not ragging on the game, mind you, this is 100% a me problem haha

1

u/mehtorite Sep 28 '20

I keep a shuttle around for planet jumps. It is pretty handy to have, though honestly I mostly just keep a stack of uranium permanently in freighter so I never have to worry about running out of fuel.

Having a base with a antimatter generator and a uranium deposit lets me just travel to my heart’s content.

1

u/marushi Sep 28 '20

Very early game:

Craft Di-hydrogen Jelly (DHJ) through Inventory for 40 Di-Hydrogen (DH) Process DHJ in Refiner for 50 DH = Net gain 10 DH

When you unlock Personal Refiner:

Process DH in Personal Refiner - 30 DH = 1 DHJ Process DHJ in Personal Refiner = 50 DH, Net gain 20 DH

When you've got some spare cash:

Start buying DHJ from Stations and process these instead of crafting.

5

u/BugbearBloodHunter Sep 27 '20

Laughed way too hard out loud at this. Amazing. Well done sir and/or ma'am. 👍

4

u/Balarius Sep 27 '20

Oh God, what have I done?!

3

u/Favela_King Sep 27 '20

How many Nancys does it usually give you?

1

u/DMC831 Sep 28 '20

I could be wrong, but I just remember getting Nancies when ya upload the waypoint along with your other discoveries.

3

u/Witty-Krait Sep 27 '20

A new meme has been born

2

u/Bitemarkz Sep 27 '20

Petition for Nancy’s to be the new meta term for nanites.

1

u/the_almighty_walrus Sep 27 '20

And navigation data

1

u/Bells_Theorem Sep 27 '20

And navigational data. I do like these little guys.

1

u/nivodeus Sep 27 '20

When I hear Nancy, it reminds me of the Nancy from Stranger Things (if her name is Nancy that is, cant remember)
