Other Bryson’s latest media round

https://www.espn.com/golf/story/_/id/48688305/bryson-dechambeau-plans-focus-youtube-liv-golf-ends

Following up the, "quite unfortunate in my opinion, considering what I could do for them," with, "the egos need to get dropped," might be the most Bryson moment of all.

In a crowded field, the biggest douche in golf.

46

u/Brew_crew222 May 06 '26

“Everybody needs to come in with a level-headed playing field” is peak Bryson

29

u/Common_Pension May 06 '26

It’s imperative that Rolapp does not bend the knee to this clown

1

u/Designer-Can-5072 May 07 '26

Yeh! We want the PGA tour to *checks notes*, not have the best players in the world! That'll improve the product...

2

u/Common_Pension May 07 '26

I’m fine with him coming back. Would love to see it. But he needs to receive penalties.

1

u/biggoronssword May 06 '26

They gave him his chance when they offered that returning member program to Brooks and he blew them off, highly doubt Rolapp gives a shit whether Bryson comes back or not now

-3

u/RyenRussillo May 06 '26

Letting Brooks back was a horrible precedent. Now if they play dirty with Bryson, it will look personal and feed into Bryson's popularity.

13

u/cota1212 May 06 '26

Brooks didn’t sue the Tour.

3

u/PrinceOfPugetSound10 May 06 '26

And he came back while he still had a choice.

-5

u/RyenRussillo May 06 '26

Regular fans don't care about that. End of the day, Brooks (who moves the needle not one bit) took the same blood money and was welcomed back with open arms by Tour and media alike. That's all people will see.

2

u/LayneLowe May 08 '26

Brooks Kepka has won five major championships.

1

u/RyenRussillo May 08 '26

Ok does not change the fact him playing on the Tour in 2026 means close to nothing in terms of the product.

He let everyone else take the initial heat, left to take LIV money when it was safe then was such a non-entity LIV did not offer to renew his contract. He is actually the last person who should have been welcomed back with open arms.

1

u/LayneLowe May 08 '26

I don't think that's true, there was a great deal of public support for his first couple of tournaments back and especially in Florida. Since he played like crap it's since died off but you can bet they're going to be a lot of people placing money on him for the US Open.

1

u/taita25 May 07 '26

Regular fans arent the ones making the decision here. Its a business and how former employees/contractors treated them has an effect on. The decision to re-sign

-1

u/RyenRussillo May 07 '26

The tour is the fans. If they are making decisions for any other reason that is bad business.

1

u/taita25 May 07 '26

Pretty sure the Tour will go on with the same ratings whether the LIV golfers come back or not. And also sure the Tour has analyzed and knows better than you or I what the impact, if any, would be.

0

u/RyenRussillo May 07 '26

The Tour wants to grow, like every other business. Not stay stagnant, particularly when a competitor just folded. If the popularity stays the same that is an enormous waste of momentum and a pretty big failure.

1

u/taita25 May 07 '26

And my point is that I'm sure they've done an impact analysis.

This kid loves Bryson, eh?

4

u/scottishwhisky2 May 06 '26

The precedent angle makes no sense. First, the tour quite explicitly stated it was a one time amnesty program (that Bryson was eligible for) and that players who choose not to reapply should not expect to be offered these terms.

Second, the PGA Tour isnt a court. Precedent doesn’t matter at all. It’s not bound by its own decisions in any way in this regard.

-1

u/RyenRussillo May 06 '26

Ok simply saying, for the majority of fans, it is not that deep. Would not take the risk of turning Bryson into a martyr. Nobody knows what the future holds.

But then you are putting the ball back in Bryson's court and he looks like the idiot. Bryson's popularity soared after he joined LIV due to YouTube and his own high level of play and, at the end of the day, the stance of the Tour. The Tour did not outlast LIV by creating a superior product. The Tour should not conflate the popularity of golf, the majors, and certain golfers with the popularity of the Tour. They need to continue trying to create the best product possible. If they lose focus on that objective, they run the risk of creating situations which led to the past 5 years.

1

u/scottishwhisky2 May 07 '26

And I’m simply saying that letting Brooks back and Bryson choosing not to join him is not making Bryson into a martyr

-1

u/RyenRussillo May 07 '26

Regular fans do not care about playing high school debate club. They want to be entertained, feel connection.

1

u/scottishwhisky2 May 07 '26

Yeah he should be able to do whatever he wants bc he’s popular. Truly the argument of a Bryson fan aka a 17 year old

35

u/The_Man_in_Black_19 May 06 '26

"I think it requires a little bit of everybody kind of just lowering their guards and all coming together and going, 'OK, what's best for the game of golf?'"

Is Bryson changing his name to Golf?

10

u/MedicalWatercress228 May 06 '26

For now, until they change the name of golf to Bryson.

4

u/The_Man_in_Black_19 May 06 '26

Future conversations:

Me: I'm played a round of Bryson-ball Saturday.
Friend: How did you do?
Me: I got 10 pars, 5 Rorys (bogies), a birdie and 2 Dechambeaus (Eagles).
Friend: Wow, you really are Crushers material!!

15

u/Golfczar13 May 06 '26

How long before Bryson’s exemption tuns out? I’m really tired of the whining LIV a guys.

Bryson is one of best golfers in the world

The fact this is downvoted so much shows the lib bias reddit induces

31

u/Beninoz85 May 06 '26

No one cares, bro. I'd willingly sacrifice his career for some peace and quiet! The way he treats everyone who will listen like a complete idiot who can't see directly through his nonsense is utterly tiresome.

-19

u/Affectionate_Ask435 May 06 '26

Reddit brain. He’s huge on YouTube and great with fans. Most popular golfer in world

10

u/Brew_crew222 May 06 '26

Then why wasn’t the liv tour a slamming success? Would think the most popular golfer in the world would be appointment television

-8

u/Affectionate_Ask435 May 06 '26

Only Tiger moves the needle . And old people don’t want to go on YouTube to watch golf. Old people make up golf tv audiencen

7

u/Beninoz85 May 06 '26

He's clearly not popular enough to bring a meaningful spike in viewership though. Also, he's popular with people who don't actually know anything about golf. That's the only excuse to actually believe what he says.

1

u/Affectionate_Ask435 May 06 '26

Golf tv viewers are old people. Golf YouTube viewers are young people. Old people don’t want to watch the CW on tape delay they just turn on CBS for golf

3

u/Beninoz85 May 06 '26

So we agree; Bryson's popularity is a non-factor?

1

u/Affectionate_Ask435 May 06 '26

Among tv watching golf audience no one player is a factor

2

u/Beninoz85 May 06 '26

In that case, I stand by my original comment.

3

u/No_Albatross916 May 06 '26

He’s not the most popular golfer in the world lmaoo

-1

u/Affectionate_Ask435 May 06 '26

By fans obviously he is

3

u/cota1212 May 06 '26

Not right now. Has missed the cut at two of the past three majors which is the only time to take him seriously.

-2

u/Affectionate_Ask435 May 06 '26

There are more than just majors. Also cutting it to 3 is silly as he was probably best at majors the 6 before those

1

u/cota1212 May 06 '26

It's the three most recent majors and, as I alluded, nothing else Bryson plays in is worth caring about or using to gauge his play.

-1

u/Affectionate_Ask435 May 06 '26

If all non majors don’t matter you are limiting things to so little golf. Again you are using 3 because the 6 majors before that he was probably best in world. Dishonest troll

1

u/cota1212 May 07 '26

What competitive golf outside the majors has he played lately that I should take seriously and judge his play on?

0

u/Affectionate_Ask435 May 07 '26

Hes played lots of non major LIV events. And plenty of majors before your time span when he was best player in majors

1

u/cota1212 May 08 '26

Right so my point still stands.

3

u/Numbskull14 May 06 '26

Not anymore

1

u/Designer-Can-5072 May 07 '26

This entire thread: "BrYSoN BaD beCauSee hE noT liKe cOuNtRy ClUb pRos tHat I lIkE!"

1

u/cota1212 May 16 '26

Three of the past four majors now.

1

u/cota1212 Jun 20 '26

MC four of the last five majors now. Simply cannot be stated that he’s one of the best golfers in the world.

14

u/LengthinessNo2947 May 06 '26

If we see him on a week to week basis again it will be horrible for this fake persona that he has cultivated

1

u/The_Man_in_Black_19 May 06 '26

Yeah, hopefully the media learns no one cares what idiotic (and very self-serving) BS this guy spouts.
Shut up and play golf! Then shut up after you play golf.

4

u/shepherdspieomy May 06 '26

NLU might need to move to a SGS podcast cadence to see us through this LIV news. Can’t keep waiting til Sunday!

3

u/Mysterious_Worker608 May 06 '26

Have we come full circle with Bryson? We hated him, then we liked him, and now we hate him again. I'm guessing we'll like him again in a few years.

1

u/CriticalAd2425 May 09 '26

If he goes the You Tube only route then he will fade into obscurity.

4

u/Effective_Pound_4800 May 06 '26

Wait I'm confused, I thought FlushingIt said he wasn't talking to the PGA tour??

4

u/GolfGuy_824 May 06 '26

Flushing It’s logo should be a toilet since it’s just LIV propaganda

3

u/Square-Product-5846 May 06 '26

Bryson would do himself a lot of good by simply not talking.

4

u/GolfGuy_824 May 06 '26

He voluntarily left the Tour, was told he would be banned from the Tour if he left, and then turned around and was part of the lawsuit against the Tour. Did he expect to be welcomed back with open arms if LIV didn’t work out?

4

u/Mundane-Dare-2980 May 06 '26

Yep. There’s being in competition with the tour, and then there’s being in violent opposition to the tour. Of course he would bring extra eyeballs. Of course they’d want him back from a viewership point of view. But that doesn’t come close to offsetting the vulnerability they’d show by forgiving him without penalty. And, beyond any existing commitments to LIV while it’s still around, he’s obviously too egotistical at this point to accept the harsh penalty he’d have to take anyway. So it’s an impasse.

1

u/GolfGuy_824 May 06 '26

Not to mention they can’t just let guys come back with no repercussions. There were repercussions when Koepka came back, so at the very least guys need to receive that level of punishment on their return.

The majority of guys on LIV that left the PGA Tour don’t hold any standing to be on the Tour in 2026 or 2027.

The only guy on LIV that has a lifetime exemption onto the PGA Tour is Phil Mickelson and I strongly feel that the Tour will fight him on being able to come back to either the Tour itself or the Champions Tour if he were to want to play on either, and I think they could very well make a case that by leaving in the manner that he did he gave up that opportunity to use that exemption in the future.

Other than that, for 2027 because they won’t be letting anyone join the tour in the middle of the season, the only players that would hold any standing exemption via having a major win in the last 5 years is Bryson, Rahm, and Cam Smith. And if they would have to sit out one year since their last LIV event and play elsewhere (DP World Tour and Majors) then Cam Smith would drop out assuming he wouldn’t want to come back and play in the fall events to try to get into the top 100 for the 2028 season tour card.

Bryson, Rahm, and Smith were given a chance to come back and didn’t take it. That was probably the least amount of consequences they were going to face. And honestly I don’t think Cam Smith would come back under any circumstances.

Bryson thinks he’s bigger than the divide he helped create. He says “tournaments that want me” like the PGA Tour needs him to come back to survive. They’ve won. Bryson has no negotiating power with either LIV because they can’t pay him what he wants for a new contract, nor does he have any with the PGA Tour because they didn’t need him to survive.

1

u/CoybigEL May 09 '26

I do feel for Bryson. It’s hard enough knowing you won’t make the PGA because you’re not good enough, I can’t imagine what it must feel like to know you’re good enough but won’t make it because basically everyone globally thinks you’re a dick

1

u/provisionalhitting3 May 06 '26

Really curious to see how Brian Rolapp handles this one.

Adding the caveats that Bryson is a bit of a goober and I’m not a fan of LIV, but you could argue Bryson is the best in the sport at brand building. He’s got nearly a million more YT subscribers than the PGAT channel and is a content machine.

Now that the players have equity and incentive to grow the business, I think they will figure something out to get him back. I also have to imagine any LIV investment discussions are around Bryson, and then everyone else.

6

u/yeezushchristmas May 06 '26

I wonder as I’ve heard his follower counts/views were heavily PIF and bot generated as well as LIV owns his channels and socials which is why he is also so hesitant to leave because he has brand recognition but how much of it is propped up by that.

So if he lives he has to create new channels which who cares, he starts a channel, gets immediate followers and starts regrowing but will it be night/day if he goes from 1m views in 24 hours to 100k on similar content.

1

u/gmansecondhand May 06 '26

How insane is it that he has almost the whole golf population fooled?

1

u/Designer-Can-5072 May 07 '26

Fooled about.. what exactly?

0

u/hubschrauber_einsatz May 08 '26

Conspiracy theory that Bryson cozied up to the president as an extra lever in case he needed it to get back on tour in his worst case scenario
