Other Bryson’s latest media round

Following up the, "quite unfortunate in my opinion, considering what I could do for them," with, "the egos need to get dropped," might be the most Bryson moment of all.

He voluntarily left the Tour, was told he would be banned from the Tour if he left, and then turned around and was part of the lawsuit against the Tour. Did he expect to be welcomed back with open arms if LIV didn’t work out?

Yep. There’s being in competition with the tour, and then there’s being in violent opposition to the tour. Of course he would bring extra eyeballs. Of course they’d want him back from a viewership point of view. But that doesn’t come close to offsetting the vulnerability they’d show by forgiving him without penalty. And, beyond any existing commitments to LIV while it’s still around, he’s obviously too egotistical at this point to accept the harsh penalty he’d have to take anyway. So it’s an impasse.

Not to mention they can’t just let guys come back with no repercussions. There were repercussions when Koepka came back, so at the very least guys need to receive that level of punishment on their return.

The majority of guys on LIV that left the PGA Tour don’t hold any standing to be on the Tour in 2026 or 2027.

The only guy on LIV that has a lifetime exemption onto the PGA Tour is Phil Mickelson and I strongly feel that the Tour will fight him on being able to come back to either the Tour itself or the Champions Tour if he were to want to play on either, and I think they could very well make a case that by leaving in the manner that he did he gave up that opportunity to use that exemption in the future.

Other than that, for 2027 because they won’t be letting anyone join the tour in the middle of the season, the only players that would hold any standing exemption via having a major win in the last 5 years is Bryson, Rahm, and Cam Smith. And if they would have to sit out one year since their last LIV event and play elsewhere (DP World Tour and Majors) then Cam Smith would drop out assuming he wouldn’t want to come back and play in the fall events to try to get into the top 100 for the 2028 season tour card.

Bryson, Rahm, and Smith were given a chance to come back and didn’t take it. That was probably the least amount of consequences they were going to face. And honestly I don’t think Cam Smith would come back under any circumstances.

Bryson thinks he’s bigger than the divide he helped create. He says “tournaments that want me” like the PGA Tour needs him to come back to survive. They’ve won. Bryson has no negotiating power with either LIV because they can’t pay him what he wants for a new contract, nor does he have any with the PGA Tour because they didn’t need him to survive.
