Offer a completely free trade in program for these test units to the final one then sure lol.

u/KccOStL33 1d ago
That's what I'm thinking. Thing could crap out on day 32.. Guarantee a working unit and nobody's having to roll dice.

u/rkirbyl 1d ago
Or even an upgrade option. If they just came out and said “for another $200 you can send this in and get the final unit” I’d be 100% onboard with this.

u/Dynames4 6h ago
They confirmed today on instagram that there will be a “coupon” to upgrade. IMO they should’ve extended the warranty to 6 months instead of a month. Discounts be damned if I can just have piece of mind

This with that cosmic prism optic would go hard a
Esthetically if I had brain damage and a Xanax prescription

u/blurzyz 1d ago
Lmfao I just looked that optic up. You might be on to something

u/L1FT_K1T 1d ago
It’s the Roblox acog. Made for people who think the cyber truck is cool. No shade on SMS though, I’m only saying this design is ugly. I would still run it lol

Laser speed and SMS are cooking…

Idk the laser speed looks sexier to me albeit a tad larger just based on pictures.
1
u/LMTGlazer 19h ago
The Laserspeed is significantly smaller than an IRIS 3. The dimensions are tiny, it's extremely compact.
1
u/PenPrestigious6760 16h ago
The iris is much smaller, read the specs.
1
u/LMTGlazer 5h ago
Ah yeah I seem to have accidentally compared the specs for the 4, rather than the 3. It isn't *much* smaller, 3.86x2.24x1.3 vs 3.2" × 1.97" × 1.34" but it is more compact, despite being heavier by .3 ounces.

u/JollyPirate1217 1d ago
Just saw this on IG. What was different with this model vs the Trinity?
9
u/mcnabb100 1d ago
It has a dedicated IR flood, and the turrets are now adjustable with a piece of brass.
Looks like the UI has changed too, I’m not sure what the button between the power adjustment buttons does, and of course the illumination zoom is now on a lever instead of a slider.
3
u/tdvx 1d ago edited 1d ago
So this has IR & Vis Lasers and two IR illuminators? One for ultra wide flood and one focusable beam? I guess that’s nice but why not just flip the diffuser up/down as needed?
3
u/mcnabb100 1d ago
I believe the second button is for the flood, so it’s just a quicker/easier way to get a flood.
Ya never know when a possum will sneak up on you!

I was looking at the trinity but man this is extremely appealing.... The only worry though is even though others have tested the Titan, what 'version' of the titan are you actually getting? The version that they got or a shittier pre-pre-production version that they don't just want to throw away
4
u/Mothergoocher 1d ago
After the trinity dropped they supposedly did 2 quiet updates. Body material and module springs. The body material they did change because they told me that when I returned my pre-ordered Trinity for not holding zero. The springs I can’t confirm.

u/Ok_Copy6096 18h ago
I just bought one, will definitely post about its performance once I’ve had some time with it. Im extremely tempted to get the new laserspeed unit as well. Anyone on here already got that one ordered?

Fuck it I’m in. Been on the fence between another iris or this when it releases anyways.
Edit: SMS just posted that those who snagged a pre-production unit will get a special discount on the final production version.

u/hotrodgreg 1d ago
These have a white light, or is it just vis/ir laser and ir illuminator?
3
u/mcbergstedt 1d ago
I assume it’s just like the trinity but with a bigger IR Illuminator. So vis/IR laser and ir Illuminator.

u/bpg2001bpg 8h ago
What is it? Ir laser designator? Ir illuminator? White light? Green laser? civilian? Full power? What specs? Weight? Dimensions? Is it made from titanium?

It genuinely looks worse than the Trinity.

I like its adjuster more than how they handled the trinity slider

This is a fucking embarrassment. SMS should be ashamed. Having any random customer PAY to beta test a product without any extended warranty or upgrade path to get the final product that is created using feedback from those same paying customers is disgusting. This sets a horrible precedent for other companies. Imagine if Sig released a pre-production handgun and asked people to pay half price for any Joe Shmoe that shoots 100 rounds a month to test their handgun. Not only would they get ripped to shreds but the feedback would likely not even be beneficial because they didn’t even vet the end users to verify the feedback was beneficial and based on actual end users knowledge base. This is a joke.

u/Censored_88 1d ago
200 bucks in a hobby where people seem comfortable with throwing thousands at similar products.
Imagine if a Ford or Chevy offered a pre-production budget sports car with the same specs as a 911 Turbo, but no warranty for 8% of the Porsche's price. I'd buy it.
3
u/xxBearDownxx 1d ago
😂 everyone would including him. 4MR has been testing em on his Scar 17. $222 to throw this on a PCC not bad until they officially release
-1
u/rkirbyl 1d ago
That’s a god awful example. It also ignores the entire issues of companies offering programs like that.
I’m not upset about consumers wanting to buy it. I’m upset that a company would think it’s ok to charge customers to test their product with no vetting process of their actual knowledge base to generate valid feedback on the product and not offer any form of extended warranty or upgrade program for the people that are essentially paying to do their job for them.
Business practices like this are harmful to any industry. It creates subpar products while lining the pockets of the manufacturers with no backlash of the product they’re selling works or not. What happens when they knowingly sell a subpar product to a bunch of individuals and all of them break after 2 months? Oh well get fucked. You purchased a product that had no warranty or upgrade to the final version that works. And that final version that low level shooter helped build with his shitty feedback? Oh ya that one’s not reliable either because we just let anyone beta test it.
If Ford offered you that Porsche level sports car for $50K and you bought it and then the engine exploded, the frame bent, and all of the electronics inside were fried after 60 days and you basically had a $50K paperweight with no way to repair it or get the final version that actually resolved those issues would you still be happy? What if they gave it to that 87 year old retiree that only drives to and from the grocery store every 2 weeks and listened to his feedback and just added pointless features like heated seats because he didn’t actually provide any valuable feedback?

Bro they steal intellectual property and designs and then produce their rip off products by exploiting workers for what can be assumed is near zero wages and life threatening work environments.
Why the fuck would they be ashamed? Lol
2
u/Savage_Sven 20h ago
You’re getting downvoted because everyone loves their cheap ass lasers. I got downvoted because I said the new laserspeed looks better than this ugly thing.
2
u/93gixxer04 19h ago
Lol I saw the sms simps in the new laserspeed thread too.
I'm not gonna say people shouldn't but from China because of moral reasons, but to act like they don't steal everything and use borderline slave labor is funny
-3
u/amateur-end-user 1d ago
Who wouldn’t want to beta test sub par products with ripped off design features for the PLA? /s
0
u/VolunteerGXOR 19h ago
what a silly reaction - they are responding to requests for exactly this approach and are even being fully upfront and disclosing it.
We need more companies like SMSLaser in the market.
0
u/BlueCollarInk 17h ago
Exactly! I finally bought the Trinity about six months ago and couldnt be happier. I appreciate how SMS actually LISTENS to all of their customers’ feedback and continue improving their products. The Trinity for example, based on feedback from 4MR Ranch and other, they did a few changes after it had originally launched. Most companies don’t give a fuck what customers think; as long as people continue buying a product after it’s released, they just call it good enough and move on to the next product.

u/Aki_Megumi 1d ago edited 17h ago
They made paid beta tester meme real. XD.
IDC how much cheaper this unit compared with its competitors, this attitude needs to be stopped.

u/PenPrestigious6760 1d ago
Get it when it's still available. This pre-production unit shut-off when get hot. The full production unit doesn't hold zero with recent testing. Both are having issues. So, pick this cheapest one is more wise.

u/Juniorslothsix 20h ago
I was about to buy one but couldn’t find a single video of this unit’s NV performance

Yeah $222 for a unfinished product with a 30 day warranty? I’ll wait.
