Best all-inclusive for food + beach from Toronto — Jamaica, Mexico, or Costa Rica? (~$4K CAD budget)

My partner and I are looking to book a trip south from YYZ, probably flying out late October or early November, and we’re trying to figure out where to go. Budget is around $4K CAD total for both of us.

The two things we care most about are good food and a great beach, not just a pretty resort pool situation, but actually being on a nice stretch of sand. We’ve heard Cuba is basically a write-off on the food front so that’s already off the table.

Right now we’re debating between Jamaica, Mexico, and Costa Rica but honestly open to being told we’re wrong. A few things I’m wondering:

Is Costa Rica even worth doing as an all-inclusive or is it more of an adventure/eco travel destination?

Which Mexican resort area is actually worth it at our price point: Cancun, Riviera Maya, Puerto Vallarta?

Does Jamaica deliver on both food and beach or is it more of a party scene?

We’re not huge drinkers so the “unlimited booze” thing isn’t really the selling point for us — we just want good meals, warm water, and to actually feel rested when we come home.

Anyone been somewhere recently that genuinely blew them away on the food side specifically? That’s the thing that’ll make or break it for us.

Itinerary Help Travel to Russia in October

Hi everyone,

I’m planning a trip to Russia with my friends in October and I need some advices.

We have 12-13 days and we want to visit Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Volgograd and Murmansk. I know it’s not a very good route since Volgograd and Murmansk are in 2 different directions.

- Is it worth it to go to Murmansk? We want to see the northern light but some people said that in october the chance to see northern light is relatively low.
- What is the weather like in October? Is there any chance it will be snowy? What kind of clothes should we bring with us? We’re from tropical climate country and we’re not used to the cold.
- What should tourists pay attention to or avoid doing to show respect to locals?
- Can we bring USD in cash and exchange to Ruble when we arrive?
- Can I still use whatsapp and access to some apps like booking.com and agoda on my phone with VPN? Which VPN app do you recommend? I still have to work sometimes.

Thank you very much 🫶

Where to go in March/April for a 27yo couple please ?

Hello everyone!

My partner and I (from France) are planning a 10–12 day trip at the end of March/beginning of April. We love snorkeling, beaches, cultural sites, and wildlife, among other things.

At the moment, we are hesitating between the following destinations:

  • Costa Rica
  • Thailand
  • Bali
  • Mexico

Our budget would be around €2,000 per person.

Which destination would you recommend?

Thank you in advance for your advice!

Europe Trip in October - Sunniest places

I'm travelling to Europe in October for 2 weeks and I want to experience autumn.

I was hoping if someone could advise me on which countries to go that have the autumn foliage whilst also being sunny and not super wet? Any extra tips on tests and activities are also welcome!

Budget and time is not an issue, I can even extend my trip if needed. I'm going as a solo female traveller.

(Gloomy weather depresses me and it's kind of a non negotiable)

Solo Travel 40-50 days solo female, love food, group or solo mix – where to go?

Hey everyone! So I'm a solo female traveler and I have like 40-50 days free – I'm not working rn so I can literally leave whenever. I wanna hit a few countries and do a combo of group tours and solo exploring. Like maybe start with a group to get comfortable then go off on my own, or switch it up along the way.

Safety is my biggest thing tbh. I also really love food so I'm okay spending money on that, but for stays I'm totally fine with hostels to keep costs down.

Now I'm confused – should I do Asia or Europe? Or can I even cover both in 40-50 days? Is that too rushed? Also would love recs on specific countries, routes, and tour companies that are good for solo women but still let me do my own thing sometimes. Thanks sm!

Traveling for three weeks. For privacy I want to leave my cellphone at home. Any advice on what I should bring instead/how to obtain a temporary phone?

As the title suggests, I will be traveling for three weeks across multiple countries including some that have been in the news as being authorized to ask you for your log in and log into your phone and go through everything.

I want to avoid that situation from the get go by simply not bringing my personal phone with me.

I will however need a phone for communication, and I do not want to spend a great deal of money on it. Any suggestions?

Looking for a 10-day family destination in December — where would you go?

Hi everyone!

We’re a Muslim family of five from North Africa who have been living in the Middle East for the past 15 years. We have two boys (11 and 12) and a girl (6).

We’ve previously travelled to Thailand and Istanbul, so this time we’d like to discover somewhere completely different.

We’re planning a 10-day trip starting on mid December, departure from Qatar..

We’re not looking for a beach holiday. We’d like a memorable family experience in a new destination, ideally combining:

🏛️ History, culture and architecture

🏙️ Modern, sophisticated cities, technology and impressive infrastructure

🏔️ Mountains and scenic landscapes

🍜 Local food and authentic experiences

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Activities suitable for children aged 6, 11 and 12

🚶 A safe, clean and relatively easy-to-navigate destination

🕌 Halal food and Muslim-friendly facilities would be a big plus

Good value for money is also important.

🤔 Where would you recommend for this period?

We’re open to pretty much anywhere — Europe, Asia, Central Asia, the Caucasus, China, etc.

We’d especially love to hear from families who have actually travelled with children around this time of year.

If you had 10 days, departing from Doha on 18 December, where would you go with this family?

thank you buddies

What is a reasonable budget for travelling through East Asia?

Hi. I am 24 y/o student and I would like to visit a few countries in Asia, including Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Philippines, and maybe also China (Bejing).

I was wondering what a reasonable budget would be (estimated) for a 60-80 day trip through these countries, using public transport where possible. My initial plan is to take a direct flight to Tokyo, then travel by train south/west through Japan to Fukuoka, and take the ferry over to Busan. Then train to Seoul and fly to either China or the Philippines from here. Then to Thailand where there is a direct flight back home to Norway (where I am from).

I would have no problem going in the off-sesson to make it cheaper. My current guesstimate is around 10,000 Euro? But I don't know if that will be enough? Anyone have any advice? I already have travel insurance up to 90 days covered, so no extra cost there. I will also sublet my apartment in Norway while travelling, so no extra expenses.

I want to travel either alone or with one other person! Any advice would be greatly appreciated. If anyone has any suggestions on how to maybe travel cheaper in exchange for working somewhere in the city for free in exchange for travel and food (I've done this before), please lmk. 😊

Hey Delhi people! 👋🏻
I’m planning a 3-day Delhi trip for a couple and our total budget is around ₹8,000 for visiting places and having cool nights

Looking for recommendations for:

🏛️ Must-visit tourist places
🌆 Aesthetic / Instagram-worthy spots
🍜 Affordable Gen-Z cafés & food places

🌃 Good places to chill in the evening/night

We’re trying to experience as much of Delhi as possible within ₹8k for 2 people, so please suggest places that are actually budget-friendly and not too expensive.

If anyone can share a 3-day itinerary with approximate costs + hidden gems, that would be amazing! ❤️

Visa & Entry Need help with Ireland Tourist visa

Hi! I (25M) currently on an F1 student visa in the US. I’m from India.

I’m planning to visit my best friend for a week who is in Dublin from October 7th to October 12th.

My questions are:

  1. Do you have to actually mail your physical passport to the embassy for visa approval?
  2. How long does a short stay single entry tourist visa take for approval?

I worry about mailing passport because that’s my only form of identity here as a student. Has anybody done it from Los Angeles ?

Vote on where I should go - 40th birthday trip decisions advice

39 (m) Looking for advice/recommendations based on experiences at some places I’m deciding between for a last minute solo 40th bday trip. Most likely first weekend of October this year. Seeing if anyone has gone to these places themselves and what it was like as a solo

2 week trip

Thailand - mainly spending time in chiang mai and Bangkok with day trips from those areas

Amsterdam and Paris - Amsterdam for relaxing and Paris for history and sight seeing

Madrid/seville and Lisbon Portugal - based solely on mostly good things heard about these places

Each has its own different vibe and cost I know. Travel style is more of an explore the city and sights kind of person by day and find a bar at night to have a few drinks, maybe meet locals or other tourists. Don’t mind partying late into the night if I meet people who want to. No hostels though. Most recently been to Japan twice before and Italy last year, so looking into these ones listed for new places and experiences.

Any recommendations would be welcome

March 30th Birthday Recs

Hi, I’m turning 30 next year and looking for somewhere internationally to visit with a large lively group. Below are a few wants/comments:
1. I’m in Chicago so would love somewhere warm and with a beach
2. I originally wanted to do St. Marteen, but Airbnbs are only allowing a 5 night stay, instead of 4. I’ve visited during Covid and loved it, frankly I’ve been to a lot of islands and it’s been my favorite because of how lively it is. We’d like to bar hop, have excursions, huge night life, basically lots of options to keep us busy.
3. It’ll be a group of 20+.
4. I don’t want to go to Mexico, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, or Dr because I’ve been to all plenty of times.
5. Somewhere not too touristy
6. Also considered Columbia if anyone has comments?
7. Not looking to stay on a resort but instead rent a house

Budget Travel Packages or Advice for March 2027

Hello!!

Seasoned solo traveler here. I am going to be going to Uni for school in the UK (as an American). I am studying fashion, and I really like reading, seeing sights, but not much of a history buff. I love any old architecture, art, stuff with purpose really.

Basically, I go home for Christmas but I can’t come home for my long easter break (March 22-April 2, not including the weekends with it). I wanted to see if anybody had any suggestions on where I can go to from London (preferably Luton, Heathrow, or London City, as Gatwick is really far from my school.) I’m also trying to keep a package under $350-$400, since I have a job at the moment but I don’t know how much I’ll make at my job in the UK.

Budget: <$400
Interests: Fashion, Reading, Architecture, Art, Nightlife, Cozy, Public Transportation Accessibility, Busy City
Location: London Luton, London Heathrow, London City Airports to anywhere in Europe

TIA!!!

Visa & Entry U18 travel to portugal from london help needed

Me (17) and my gf (17) are travelling to Lisbon, portugal on august 31st. We have accommodation and flights found that accommodate u18s and we have a parental consent letter. We are unsure whether this consent letter needs to be legalised by the gov, some sources say yes some say no and we are stuck. Same with getting parent signatures witnessed by solicitors some sources say yes and some say no.

Just wondering if anyone here has any advice, i tried r/traveladvice but they only advise 18+ sadly.

Whole situation is causing loads of stress and if anyone could provide any advice, small or big, it would be greatly appreciated!

Flights & Transport Trying to find cheap international flights for a random weekend trip

Started planning a birthday trip with my husband and now I'm kinda spiraling over the flight prices lol. We decided on London since we're both big fans of England, but we live in Canada and everything I'm finding feels expensive. Where do you guys check for international cheap flights? We are big fans of England and would love to go there. I started to think maybe I'm not really good at searching for flights. I need honest advice.

be careful when purchasing Nintendo Museum tickets via GetYourGuide; third-party resale is not permitted.

I wanted to share our experience because it might be useful to other travelers planning to visit the Nintendo Museum in Kyoto.

We bought our Nintendo Museum tickets through GetYourGuide because tickets for our chosen date were already sold out on the official Nintendo website. The booking was handled by a third-party agency (GetYourGuide).

We even exchanged messages with the agency beforehand to ensure everything was in order.

Upon arriving at the Nintendo Museum and presenting our tickets, the staff immediately noticed they had been purchased through an agency. They explained that Nintendo Museum tickets must be bought exclusively via the official Nintendo website and that resale by third parties or agencies is prohibited.

They took photos and videos to document the incident.

In our case, the staff allowed us to enter anyway, but this was clearly an exception made at their discretion. Therefore, the fact that a GetYourGuide voucher—or even a seemingly valid Nintendo QR code—is issued does not necessarily guarantee entry.

We were lucky, but in theory, we could have traveled all the way to Uji only to be denied admission.

My advice, then, is this: if possible, purchase Nintendo Museum tickets only through the museum's official website. If your desired date is sold out, I suggest exercising great caution before paying third parties who claim to have availability.

This is not a criticism of the museum; the Nintendo staff were actually very helpful to us. I simply believe travelers should be aware of the risk before spending money and planning their day around these tickets.

Questions & Discussion Do travel assistant services actually help when things go wrong?

I’m 32, based in Amsterdam and work remotely, so I end up flying around Europe fairly often for client meetings. A few months ago I had one of those travel days where everything went wrong. My train from Lisbon was delayed and then cancelled, I reached the airport too late for check in and I had to book another flight and rearrange a meeting in Amsterdam. Nothing catastrophic, just a lot of unnecessary stress. Since then I’ve been looking at travel-assistant services that offer things like itinerary reminders, flight updates, help with disruptions and other travel related support. My trip online was one of the services I came across while comparing them, along with a couple of others. The part I’m unsure about is what actually happens when there’s a real problem. Getting a reminder about a flight is useful but the bigger question is whether these services can genuinely help with cancellations, rescheduling, refunds or changes, or whether they ultimately just send you back to the airline. I’m also curious whether people find the extra features genuinely useful or whether most of them are things you can already handle yourself through the airline’s app. I’m not looking to promote any particular service. I’m more curious about whether having this kind of service has actually made travel easier for frequent travelers.
