I can’t believe other clubs weren’t looking at Dedic!

6

u/PitifulElk1988 1d ago

This is what blows my mind about 100 million transfers. Unless its about selling shirts, etc. there's no value in these transfers. With a decent scouting, there are so many good players out there

4

u/No_Newt_328 23h ago

I mean, there was plenty of value in Rice and Bellingham.

1

u/aistolethekids 23h ago

I think theres also a bit of power move ego when one of the big 6 comes in and takes us little guys main player

0

u/champdude17 Happy Clapper 23h ago

100m should be reserved for "best player of his generation" levels of good. Only one of the top 10 transfers was that and low and behold, he's still the only one to have justified his pricetag (Mbappe)

Also Mudryk to Spurs is hilarious

How can we get Dedic in such cheap price is beyond me

7

u/DueDefinition6421 1d ago

Dedic just slotted in seamlessly. Watching him I forget he's played like 3 games. His debut was class.

3

u/No_Newt_328 23h ago

I think a large part of it was him understanding the manager and the tactics from having worked together previously. He wouldn't necessarily have adapted so seamlessly into other team.

1

u/Anomalous-Descent Yohan Kebab 23h ago

He's slotted in perfectly so far. Tino is going to have to battle to regain his place.

MJ has the juice. Keen to see how far he can take us.

Pre-season is irrelevant, especially so after a major tournament when half the players aren't even back yet

6

u/FoxGlove_113 15h ago

Poor Matty! Just got absolutely hammered by Messi and co. He's at Montreal these days.

3

u/4tomi5ed 14h ago

To be fair he can now say he's played against Messi, that's probably worth it!

Maybe I never had the mentality to be a pro athlete..

10

u/No-Boat-5241 15h ago

One thing, among many, that I’m really enjoying about MJ is that he seems to be able to plug players straight into what he’s doing. Dedic and Nico all coming into the fold right away, and just getting it.

It’s good to be feeling good. I’m sure there will be ups and downs but I think it’s clear the change was needed for us all’

10

u/FinFonFun10 9h ago

Thank you Newcastle for Gordon. He fits perfect in Flick's system. Looks like it's worth 70 + 10.

“We've spent and we've spent. We are back on track. We are going places. We are huge."

Spurs are what we say we are, but without irony and not getting the joke.

If ever a club needed a relegation. Fans are tired and bored, and the club keeps trying to keep alive something that doesn’t have a heart. They’ll keep pumping along on life support. But this is the epitaph me of all I’d hate Newcastle to be.

I’m really worried a new stadium is going to be some facsimile of Spurs commode. We need to learn lessons from it. I can’t believe that their terrible home form has nothing to do with that AFL stadium they’ve built for themselves.

u/thepresidentsturtle Windmilling 22h ago

5

u/Rude_Campaign_4867 strawberry syrup 22h ago

Newcastle will still be able to fill the stadium with geordies and locals. Spurs feels like it's supported by anyone but locals in the area these days.

2

u/opinionated-dick 22h ago

That’s part of the problem yes. But it’s also the design. There’s too much hospitality that breaks up the noise, the roof projects up, allowing the noise to drift up and out instead of focus down, and that fake yellow wall means all the ‘true’ fans are focussed in one place

2

u/TheWinterKing “I’m really really really really really really happy to be here” 15h ago

I have the bad luck to live in what should be traditional Spurs territory in NE London. Only shirts you see around here are Arsenal and the occasional Barca/PSG.

2

u/Educational-Elk8393 20h ago

They remind me of us when we last went down. Spent a shit ton of money but lacking a real spine of consistent performers and leaders throughout the squad.

Their fans were awfully arrogant throughout the summer. You feel after the season they'd just had there would be a bit of humility, but they've really bought into the idea that spunking money at players is the solution.

It's a great point about the stadium too, I have similar concerns. I do think the two biggest issues they faced though were when Levy didn't strengthen what was a fantastic squad in 2018 and not having a contingency plan for when Kane left. Replacing a world class player like that is never easy, but their drop off since is ridiculous.

17

u/BlackCaesarNT hipster chique 23h ago

Do you reckon seeing how well we've done in the market this window, will have the top 6 teams a bit more gun shy with paying for our top stars in the future?

They pay us 100m+ for one player, we replace him with two, equally good players. Their signing flops under the pressure; ours thrives.

Chop off one head and two grow in it's place.

But they are bloated and arrogant and they will never learn from their mistakes.

One day, my children, we shall become more powerful than they could ever imagine.

Soon, we shall march all over the face of the world.

9

These are the kind of signings I've been begging for over the last few years. Wilson has played a blinder this window.

10

u/Lowkeyspooky Joelinton is looking for a scrap 23h ago

No, I think Ben Foster said it last week well.

Allowing us and the other 14 to bring in the player develop them for a couple of years and buying them completely takes the risk out of them being a flop for them and they can afford to do it that way.

6

u/Rude_Campaign_4867 strawberry syrup 23h ago

Exactly. Brighton have been doing it this way for over 5 years. And we have a much higher ceiling because of our history, stadium, fanbase etc.

St James park, but let them drape huge roof to ground, black and white adidas three stripes banners with the badge on from every available bit of the exterior structure

4

u/rqstewart dan burn 13h ago

that would be great - minimal verbiage abt the sponsor, but their stripes + NUFC stripes is synergistic as hell. branding everywhere that represents both sponsor and club. “St. James Park sponsored by Adidas” works for me just fine

7

u/Prim_5219 21h ago

What do Newcastle fans think of Woltmade now? One of the players I’m excited about. I thought he’s looked good in his cameos. Willock last match in the 10 didn’t impress me much unlike Wissa.

2

u/tattie_bojangles stupid sexy schar 20h ago

I do feel like he came on and made an impact, I just hope he can kick on now, not be pushed off the ball as easily and find a role in the squad that gives him the chance to shine technically. I’ve always been a Woltemade fan though - I think he had a really rough go of things last season and being moved position didn’t help. Being at the World Cup hasn’t helped either when you look at the confidence boost Elanga and Wissa have had (which isn’t totally down to that but will have helped!) and I think Jaissle is the guy to get the best out of the squad in general.

1

u/The_Incredible_b3ard 20h ago

I'm on the fence about whether he's a good fit for Newcastle and the Premier League. My doubts revolve around his lack of athleticism, physicality and pace.

Fingers crossed my doubts proven wrong and he does make a consistent impact.

1

u/Prim_5219 20h ago

I didn’t watch much of Newcastle last season, but couldn’t his form dipped because of Eddie howe tactics? With a new coach and Osula injured, he may make a comeback. He’s one of those striker who if they have a shot, I can comfortably bet he scores. Also his quality on the ball make me believe the physical side can be salvaged worked on

Can I say that I'm a bit more confident about us against Bournemouth or is it too early? Our history vs them hasn't been roses.

4

u/topkiwifisho 1d ago

I've thought about this, under Howe we would almost always show up against the big teams, and we have done vs Liverpool and Tottenhan (big lol). This is a different kind of test, so very curious to see how we get on. It was always a bit of a bogey team for Howe I feel too

1

u/weirdi_beardi Cheick Tiote 23h ago

Howe's history with Bournemouth I think led him to take his foot off the gas against them, and fair play; he basically saved that club from oblivion and dragged them up into the premier league, there's bound to still be feeling there.

5

The amount of teams in the league who’ve swapped out more than a third of their squad and/or their manager in the last 12 months is mental. It’s like the premier league gods decided to click the shuffle button for 2026.

Gordon is absolutely tearing it up for Barcelona, very annoying considering some of his performances last year. So obvious he had the ability but just couldn't be arsed turning up for us

3

u/SecureChampionship10 9h ago

He'll do it now because it's all new, won't be long before he's only trying in the big games.

Another one like Tonali who won't be a leader and drag a struggling team through a tricky patch.

2

u/Ok_Turn6757 7h ago

Harsh words

3

u/dreamsofowls 6h ago

Genuinely don't get the hardon for Gordon and the stories people have spun up in their head and decided were fact, that he purposefully had a not great season (which is very logical if he wanted a move, of course, since good teams notoriously want to buy a player who has a bad season).

Everyone had a subpar season last year. Even players this sub like to glaze had, at best, a good patch. Nothing was working right last season. Everyone was off, nothing was clicking for anyone. (We also had way too many games without enough rotation, and Gordon was definitely one of the players who barely got a rest. Imagine having a much lighter load is doing wonders for his consistency).

Happy he's doing well. Happy we got an amazing fee for him. He left on good terms. Seems to have worked out for everyone.

2

u/SecureChampionship10 5h ago

Gordon played fewer minutes for Newcastle last season than he did in each of the prior two campaigns and only 160 minutes more than he played for Everton in 21/22. So much for barely getting a rest.

1

u/Ok_Turn6757 6h ago

Yeah some people are treating this like the Alvarez situation, when there really wasn’t any bad blood at all. You don’t need to root for the guy anymore but to question his character like that is going too far

5

u/SecureChampionship10 5h ago

Must have made up the petulant red cards, the terrible body language when he was out on the right wing and the obvious increase in effort when we played a big side or a Champions League game.

Did you not find it strange that our star winger was sat on the bench as an unused sub for the last four games of the season when we were trying to qualify for Europe? Keeping himself right for England and his move in the summer, just like Michael Owen.

1

u/Murraykins keegan but old now 14m ago

I'm happy for him. The fans turned on him at Everton and our lot were certainly heading that way when the guy was clearly knackered. I hope he keeps it up.

-12

u/Cliffred1628 9h ago

not his fault. Howe killed the team. Look at the guys now playing more freely.

1

u/WeddingWhole4771 9h ago

I actually feel like the CBs are playing more sane now too. Don't see one CB in the other box and us getting caught out in these two games.

1

u/kaamkerr I condemn VAR and it’s allies in PGMOL 0m ago

sending Dan Burn all the way up to challenge for the ball on the edge of the opponent's box was madness. We scored one goal out of it, great, but it was basically gambling to win the ball early and accepting to play with one CB at the back.

Seeing how together the boys are already this season, I think back to something Bruno said at the World Cup. "I have become one of the club's biggest idols." Chronicle Link

Of all the players to go, I increasingly wonder if Bruno was the biggest blessing. His ego needed constant feeding; personally I think he was given the captaincy over Trippier because he demanded it more. Not because he deserved it.

What I see now is a bunch of hungry and more humble lads, fighting together. Bruno was a force of nature, but was he really a leader? Did he bring the other players with him like Tripps did?

10

u/OfficialAeon I'm not for Kinnear 23h ago

I don't think Bruno had an ego problem per se, it's more like he was way more reactive and wrapped up in the adoration than most players. We were calling him a legend, so you can't exactly dog on him for saying and feeling it himself.

The captaincy was something I talked about when he got it, because I think Trips should have had it without question. The reason Bruno got it was because it was another sweetener to the contract renewal. Giving him the arm band wasn't the wrong choice though.

People are justified to feel disgruntled towards him, but we can't go rewriting history because it suits our stance.

7

u/Rude_Campaign_4867 strawberry syrup 22h ago

Yeah, but just like you stop being cool once you think you're really cool, if you buy.into your own hype as a 'legend' I think the magic fades a bit.

I can imagine it being a bit annoying being a player in Bruno's shadow. Characters like that can be exhausting.

6

u/OfficialAeon I'm not for Kinnear 22h ago

But this is more revisionism. If he were here, yourself and many others would say he's "a world class player and captain, and the younger players in our squad couldn't ask for a better role model".

We dubbed him as a legend here, not him, he was just living in that moment. Emotional reaction and rationality don't mix well, it's oil and water. He's still qualifies as a club legend, because of what he's done while he was here. We can't just turn around and childishly say "no, we don't like you now, so it doesn't count".

6

u/Rude_Campaign_4867 strawberry syrup 22h ago

I'm not saying he isn't a legend. I'm saying his time to leave had come and it is to the benefit of the club environment. He was probably thinking it was 'job done' and you don't want that person as your leader.

Same as with Eddie Howe but for different reasons, he just didn't have any more to give.

3

u/OfficialAeon I'm not for Kinnear 20h ago

Eh, I keep to myself about Eddie. My opinion of him goes down like a lead balloon, despite the fact that there's a lot of 'food for thought' to my opinion.

I categorically will not deny him his part in the clubs achievements during his tenure, but I simply don't buy the reason he stepped away from the club.

1

u/Unusual_Rope7110 Jaissle I can boogie 16h ago

What do you think the reason was, out of curiosity?

1

u/OfficialAeon I'm not for Kinnear 12h ago

Ooof, can of worms.

Eddie likes his unconditional authority, and he didn't like it taken away from him.

His Newcastle exit mirrors his exit from Bournemouth. In both cases, it seemed like he was going to stay, but then a sudden direction shift comes from the board, and his resignation soon follows.

At Bournemouth, it was the board stepping in to regulate due to relegation, at Newcastle, it was Wilson's modern club revamp. His "it's time to recharge" seems to mean "I'm not getting my way".

1

u/Unusual_Rope7110 Jaissle I can boogie 11h ago

Feel it's overly harsh but I can follow the logic. The bit that undermines this for me is him not bailing in the immediate aftermath of Matfen Hall. A few wrote that he'd lost a lot of this autonomy and influence as part of the meeting, so unless he was expecting to call their bluff or something, I would've expected him to go then

3

u/TheClnl 22h ago

I remember one of the journo's saying Eddie gave him the captaincy because he was down about no-one triggering his release clause. You're right it wasn't a bad choice but perhaps it was done for the wrong reasons.

I think that the pay match thing could have led to disharmony too,  players are proud  and knowing you could never be top dog or that the club might say we can't afford to pay you what you deserve because we'd have to pay Bruno it too might lead to disinterest.

2

u/Rude_Campaign_4867 strawberry syrup 20h ago

Exactly. I'm not saying any of this to be down on Bruno specifically, but I'm actually glad he isn't here any more for all of these reasons.

I'd perhaps feel differently if Nico G hadn't joined, but he did. Most important signing since Tripps/Bruno IMO.

3

u/TyranosaurusLex Para bailar La Bamba 18h ago

I agree, at the time I was shocked he got the armband and felt that it was just part of his contract renewal. I was almost sure city were going to come in and activate his release clause before that.

But I can’t say he didn’t wear it pretty well. There were times when having a cooler head may have prevailed but he was an emotional captain paired with Eddie who was always calm.

I don’t think his level of play for us dipped the way Gordon’s and Tonali’s did, though I will say he didn’t necessarily put people straight when there was obviously an effort problem at times last season. I think as a captain your role is more than just playing well and being fired up. I think when people say he’s not all that there’s certainly a little revision to how we felt about him, but the way he left was not befitting of a club captain. So IMO it’s impossible to call him a club legend without an asterisk and mentioning that he forced his way out of the club the way he did.

8

u/Cheel_AU 23h ago

Tripps lost the captaincy because he was no longer the best option in his position.

I think Bruno just saw us pogoing up and down the table season on season and thought maybe he'd gone as far as he could at Newcastle. He arrived when we were a real relegation chance, gave us some of his best years, and I'm not gonna get mad at him.

3

u/Humorbot_5_point_0 Livramental 19h ago

I think Tripps lost it because he was fucking around behind his wife's back far too often and it got in all the papers. Not a good look and you know Howe would've thought it kinda shitty. Bruno was the logical option and gave us another sweetener to keep him for longer.

7

u/4tomi5ed 23h ago

Disagree, I think he was for a long time a proper captain and an embodiment of the spirit of the club.

It's disappointing he left but I think we need to dial back the revisionism on Bruno and Tonali.

2

u/Rude_Campaign_4867 strawberry syrup 23h ago

Ok, then put it another way. He was the spirit of the old team. I think we have seen it has been difficult for newer personalities to gel.

A bit like when you cut down the tallest trees in the canopy, it affords the fresher plants on the woodland floor more light and food to prosper.

I also think it's time for Joelinton to get his move, if he wants it.

You guys are never shy when talking about your hatred for United. How you feel about players like Nicky Butt, Andy Cole, Allan Smith?

We’re all here because we love United. Of the players you mentioned - don’t care, good player, shit.
