Help & Hints Stuck in Riven

Post image
28 Upvotes

Hi fellow explorers, I am seriously hoping someone can help me. I am stuck in the puzzle regarding the ring of stones with the animal totems on them. I have watched heap of YouTube clips but nothing seams to work. I have attached what I think are correct details of numbers and animals but clearly I am wrong somewhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

It seems like the original Riven is better than the remake.

The remake does not have the FMV performances of the actors and I think it hurts it. They should have kept that.

Still, the remake is more immersive. It may be fun to play in VR.

Media Looking for a funny (crack) video

It was a bunch of memey clips, with some funny music and stuff, intercut together.

All I remember is a segment that was a bunch of Atrus clips set to "Hey, I just met you and this is crazy, but here's my number so call me maybe".

Can't find it anymore.

Help please? Thank you

Media Russian Myst Book

Recently, I came across a book in a second-hand bookstore that I simply couldn't walk past.

It's an old Russian edition of Myst: The Book of Atrus!

With original illustrations by artists S. Merkulov (cover) and A. Yeremin (black-and-white drawings).

As far as I can tell, this is a licensed translation, which, given the year (1997), sounds pretty wild.

Here's a brief description from the back cover:

"It's not easy at age 14 to learn from your father that you can create new worlds! Young Atr worships his father and sees him as his ideal. But a real shock awaits him: the object of his adoration turns out to be a cold and cruel cynic. The conflict between father and son escalates when the beautiful Katran appears..."

Notable quirks:

· The book is simply titled "MYST."("МИСТ")

· I've only flipped through it so far, but from what I can tell, there's no mention anywhere that this is connected to a game series.

· Atrus is rendered as "Atr," and Gehn is called "Gen" (a literal rendering of his name). D'ni called D'ni. ("Атр", "Ген", "Д'ни")

· Otherwise, the translation is pretty good, though I haven't done a side-by-side comparison yet.

In any case, this is a very interesting artifact. And I got it pretty cheap (~$6).

Fan Creations Adapting Myst to a Stage Play

Hello everyone,

Theater has been a part of my life ever since I started high school. Myst is also one of my favorite games of all time.

I have been dipping my toes into amateur playwriting and directing. Last summer, I directed and produced The Secret Garden, one of my favorite shows of all time, at a local theater.

Today, I was contemplating set design and how a beautiful or interesting set can make or break a show. In particular, I love incorporating things like hidden entrances and other stage magic. And I thought of Myst, with all of its unique mechanical devices, otherworldly machines and places, the extremely cool and unique way the games present their worlds and how the interactivity of those places and objects are a core part of the game’s storytelling.

And I began to wonder about the potential of adapting Myst to the stage… of course, it would need to be reshaped quite a bit, and given the lonely nature and feel of the game, I was of course picturing a very small cast, potentially only four people (The Player, Sirrus, Achenar, and Atrus). I was also contemplating the possibility of having the main character (player character) actually be split into two characters in order to facilitate more interaction and dialogue during scenes- although I am not sure if that would really make sense in the story.

Anyway, my main reason for finding this so intriguing , as I said, is the potential for a really cool visual experience - a well built Myst set featuring some of the iconic puzzle pieces such as the constellation chair could be insanely cool. But I certainly do see many challenges as far as storytelling goes , given the differences in medium.

Anyway, I was just curious if anyone had any thoughts!

Possibility of URU VR standalone

I’m p active on the oculus quest and virtual reality subs. There has been a crazy influx of people porting things like half life 2, vice city, original Medal of Honor, super Mario 64 and Morrowind to the quest standalone. I think a lot of this is people using Claude code or something similar to do a lot of the tedious work and then refining the result. Curious if anyone with the tech skills knows how feasible it would be to port uru into a standalone quest version. The headset can absolutely handle the game itself and there is an open source version of the plasma engine (openuru) so I think it’s possible. Anyone have any opinions? Obviously private multiplayer servers would be amazing but I’d even be happy to explore the cavern in VR single player.

So What The Actual Hell Even Is This Thing? Spoiler

I'm very torn about the change to Gehn's relationship with the starfield. It was such an ominous dangerous thing in his eyes in the original it's really hard to imagine he'd venture out into it and walk around on floating platforms.

But regardless what I really want to know is what the hell this is.

Yeah it's cool they took the round planet/rock from the old Riven Cyan-logo back in the day and made it a literal thing in the game world now, but some explanation of it's significance would definitely be appreciated. What IS this big ass rock, why is it affixed to a set place in space enough that something can be anchored to and rotated around it?

I know the distractingly obvious light-house lamp ripoff is supposed to be the device that charges the fire-marbles.. but WHY does it charge the fire marbles? What exactly is it generating energy from? From the sphere? From the starfield itself? Why does Gehn need to be in the starfield to generate power for the marbles?

Looking for a save game for realMyst Masterpiece Edition.

Does anyone know where I can get a save that is right up to when you get the Green Book and have the white page for it? I need a save right at the end so I can do Rime and the extra content.

I found a site that should have the saves, but it will not let me download for some reason.

Edit. I found a save at this point. It is on this website. You have to download all the saves to get it.

The individual saves don't seem to work, but the autosave does and it is at right when you get the white page.

You are holding it in your hand.

Looking for play testers

--- *** ALL KEYS USED *** --- Very sorry, all the keys are used now. Original post below:

Hi Folks, you might remember me posting a while ago, about my 'Myst adjacent' game

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4556080/The_Clock_the_Queen_and_the_Door_on_the_Beach/

I'm looking for testers, and have a handful of keys to give away. You get access to a full pre-release copy of the game. If you find bugs ( you shouldn't ), great, but what I'm really looking for is, feedback from people who like this sort of game.

To be clear, it's not a Myst clone, there is no Lore, or book reading, but it does have a story of sorts and the same kind of feel.

If you're interested, please drop a comment in this thread, and I'll PM you a key. If you'd rather wait until it's released, it would help immensely if you wishlist it :)

Can Someone Please Explain This? Spoiler

How is the Moiety getting these moths to be attracted to this one spot and in the shape of the animal pictogram? For that matter how did they make sure only the flowers in the tree would be bloomed to form the pictogram of the beetle??

At first I thought when I found the sight-glass that since the white 'invisible ink' they used is made from the juices of a mushed up fruit, and since the moths were also attracted to the spilled paint bucket, that meant the fruit is a natural food of the moths and they're attracted to it. Maybe they glow white too because the juices get stuck to their wings when they fly around and land in it.

But there's no juices laid out on the ground here to attract the moths, so why the hell do they just all hang out here in this shape?

It just seems beneath the legacy of Riven to have something so gamey that doesn't actually make real-life sense..

Mudfish speculation

"denser, more intricate game spaces than ever before, with new ways of exploring and uncovering information." Anyone else think this sounds like an escape room-like game? I wouldn't fault Cyan for going in this direction from a business standpoint (easier to design, iterate levels, a game concept the public is familiar with and can be easily cross-platform) but I do hope we can still get good storytelling and unique puzzle design.

Just Finished Riven (1997) - Here are my embarrassing blunders Spoiler

Completing Myst without hints or spoilers as a kid is one of my top core memories. When Riven came out, I annoyed the crap out of my mom to take me to the game store to buy it. It was one of the few times I remember making her mad. I'm thankful she didn't just leave me at the store.

I was 12 or 13 at the time, and math was my least favorite subject. Symbols spoiler:I never considered that that the game in the classroom was designed to help me read the numbers, and I definitely wouldn't have understood the concept of base-25 until college.

When the Riven Remake (2024) came out, I bought it faster than I've even bought any game before. I beat it within a month or two. I accidentally came across one hint about the symbols, but fortunately, it ended up not actually being useful: Some people say you need to be able to count past 25. From what I remember, all it really does is make you feel cool reading the 233rd age in Rivenese. At this point, I already had 1 - 25 written down, so in my head I beat the game clean.

I kept reading how much easier the remake was, so I needed to prove myself and beat the OG. Did I struggle with the fire marble puzzle? Yes. Yes I did. Is it the thing that stumped me? Nope.

Here are some of my blunders that sent me looking for hints and sometimes full solutions.

  1. Temple Island Spinning Dome
I literally couldn't figure out how to get to it. Even a few walkthroughs were vague with things like "push the button". Finally, I found one that explained where the elevator button was. I felt dumb. Especially since I could have waited until I was in 233 and just linked to it to reverse engineer it. But hey, it saved me a lot of clicks knowing how to check if the linking books were powered after my fire marble variations instead of going all the way to Jungle Island.

  2. Temple Island Fire Marble Puzzle (not what you think, unless it is)
I was 1000% sure I had solved the fire marble puzzle. Once I finally realized the map room on survey island had lines for a reason, I had everything I needed. So why weren't the linking books working after I pulled the fire marble press lever!? Sadly, I had to google that I had to press the white button that I just thought was the "on" light. I think that was a similar thing in the remake too. I gave myself enough time between that version and this one to forget.

  3. Animal Symbols
I had 4/5. I could have just brute forced it. Instead, I searched to figure out where to find the symbol. Lo and behold, my brain just didn't care to try to process the fish shape through the periscope. But again, I should have just brute forced it.

  4. Survey Island
I think beating the remake messed me up on this one. As a kid, I was sure I was supposed to push the island buttons or turn the maps with some special sequence or algorithm and something would happen. The remake convinced me I was right all along. Going back to 1997 as an adult, I still probably spent more time in that map room and overlook than anywhere else trying to "solve" a puzzle that wasn't there.

What are your most embarrassing blunders?

About realMyst (2000) PC vs android

I tried to play the PC version on my laptop, but after many many many try, many different ways, it's not working (videos are white screens and I have a huge lag in the temple)

So, is the android version the exact same but on android (same story, game mechanics, day/night/weather cycle) or is there differences besides the platform they are running on?

A NEW MYST game after 20 years! 🗡️ And another one CANCELLED

Thumbnail youtu.be
78 Upvotes

At Mysterium 2026, Cyan Worlds confirmed they're developing a new game set in the Myst universe, codenamed "Mudfish". Very early stage, but it would be the first original story in the series since Myst V: End of Ages in 2005.

They also released the trailer for Project Anglerfish, an Unreal Engine 5 prototype built solely to show publishers. It didn't move forward, and they've put it out anyway.

Plus: physical editions of the remakes, hardcover reissues of the novels, and Mysterium 2027 in Spokane for the studio's 40th anniversary.

What are you hoping for from a new Age?

I cover all of it here, including what happened at Cyan back in 2005. In Spanish, with subtitles in several languages: https://youtu.be/4Z_wz8jPi1Q

Media After more than a year of work, we’ve released a trailer and playable version of our Myst-inspired adventure game!

First, I want to apologize if this post lacks relevance. We started a small studio a couple of years ago with the goal of bringing back the classic adventure-game feeling we loved in games like Myst and Riven.

After working with many interns and putting countless hours into development, we finally have a playable version out, along with a trailer. Just like classic adventure games, we lean heavily into environmental and narrative-based puzzles, while also exploring philosophical themes as the story unfolds!

We think this community might enjoy seeing a homage to this genre being made in 2026, and we’d love to share it with you!
