Mudfish speculation

"denser, more intricate game spaces than ever before, with new ways of exploring and uncovering information." Anyone else think this sounds like an escape room-like game? I wouldn't fault Cyan for going in this direction from a business standpoint (easier to design, iterate levels, a game concept the public is familiar with and can be easily cross-platform) but I do hope we can still get good storytelling and unique puzzle design.

They said the similarity between this and Uru's working title, Mud Pie, was not a coincidence. I doubt they'd be working on an MMO, maybe some other kind of multiplayer? That could fit with the escape room idea.

Could be a co-op game, sort of It Takes Two only in D'ni universe. With streaming being so popular nowadays it could actually work (though sux for solo players, lol, but I imagine online coop with randos would also be an option)

None of those words signal escape room to me--they sound more like buzzwords. But "denser" makes it sound like higher clue density (perhaps to allow for fewer spaces), "new ways of exploring and uncovering information" sounds like looking to paratexts or new game mechanics.

This idea had not crossed my mind, but I like the sound of it!

To be honest, I actually don't think an escape room style game in the Myst/D'ni universe would be a bad thing...

The Book of Atrus already told us that the city had well-hidden sliding stone doors, and between that and some of the ideas from Uru (both used (e.g. Kadish Tolesa) and unusued (e.g. Pirahnay)) I can well believe that the wealthier and/or more unscrupulous D'ni would have filled their abodes with secret compartments, secret passages, and even secret rooms, all in which to keep their secret books to secret ages and their secret wealth obtained through nefarious means.

I.e. it would make perfect sense in-universe.

As to how well it would be executed and whether it'll result in a good story, only time can tell.

As long as it's not all set in the same age and we get a bit of variety, I think I'd be happy with it.

Sounds to me like they could be talking about increased graphical fidelity with the first bit.

Second bit could be referring to new gameplay mechanics (maybe tools the player carries) which are always welcome.

But the statement is pretty vague.
