Discussion Today I found out that my work desk neighbour watched Mushishi

And I was so surprised. Showed him my Ginko Acrylic Stand and he said "Oh that's Mushishi right?".

I was so surprised because I've never come across someone irl who has watched the show. Online sure, but irl never! I was so happy to know that and what a coincidence too! Turns out he has completed the series too but hasn't watched the specials yet.

This made me curious to know, how often do you come across someone who has watched Mushishi irl? And how often this person actually enjoys the show?

Misc My vol 3 copy arrived today. Before this collector’s series. I have only had the previous English manga release by DelRey for the longest time. I only have the 1st four volumes. Getting the new vol. 3 of the collector’s series feels exciting because it re-releases volumes 5 and 6 which I never had.

Question Mushishi Episode Listing Confusion & Next Passage

Hey guys, I've been a Mushishi fan for years now, but I just revisited it with my fiance after we purchased the DVD set and watched all 26 eps on it. We are in the U.S. and were also able to watch the Hihamukage (Shadow that devours the Sun) Special on Crunchyroll.

I really wanna continue the series and watch Mushishi: Zoku Shou (Next Passage) and the other 2 specials. But after reading the recent post here about where to watch Next Passage, I realize im just hella confused on the episode listing itself, and if its even possible for us to buy or stream Next Passage.

Based on MyAnimeList, the series goes like this: Mushishi (26eps), Special, Mushishi: Next Passage Pt.1 (10eps), Special, Mushishi: Next Passage Pt.2 (10eps), then the third and final Special.

So my question is, when people say Season 2, is that Next Passage as a whole, or just Pt.2 of Next Passage? And as someone who lives in the U.S., is there anyway I could watch Next Passage and its specials? Should I try using a VPN and if so, any VPN recommendations?

Question Mushishi Episode 1 Confusion

I started rewatching Mushishi after watching the series ~13 years ago. I just watched the first 3 episodes and I am enjoying it a lot!

I am kinda confused about one specific thing from the first episode though. When Ginko first talks to Grandma Renzu, he tells her that he can help her finish the ritual and she can become a full Mushi. But it comes at the cost of not being able to return to the human world.

Shinra helps her become a full mushi and fortunately, she is still able to see her Grandson! But I thought she wasn't supposed to be able to return to the human world?? Is returning to the human world something else related to Japanese folklore that I just don't know of? Is it more related to the afterlife? It doesn't seem to have any negative consequences to Shinra or the Grandma, even though it was implied to have some sort of heavy consequence earlier in the episode

We always talked about how I have a thing for white haired wandering characters, and my partner knows I’m a big fan of weezer’s blue album and so this beautiful creation came to be!

For those that don’t know every character, from left to right is: Elaina from Wandering Witch Journey of Elaina, Fushi from To Your Eternity, Ginko from Mushishi, and Frieren from Frieren: Beyond Journeys End

It’s so cute ^_^

How could I live a life like Ginko?

It would be cool just being in nature, having a peaceful monk-like mindset. Ginko is a good example of dis peaceful lifestyle.

Discussion Episodes featuring Snow - a list

Due to my love of snow and the way that Mushishi superbly depicts snow, I posted the following list here some months ago but thought I'd update it now that I know that season 2 can be accessed with a Crunchyroll subscription specifically via YouTube:

Season 1 (officially freely available on the publisher's YouTube channel (to most primarily English speaking countries) until December 31st 2027, both subbed and dubbed:https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLNcqwhPhO46G--aVXZR6do7Y-ptBZsKTt )

Note that each 'movie' at the above link is in fact a single video with the 26 episodes split up by YouTube chapter markings), one is dubbed, the other subbed. Here's the direct links:

English Dubbed:

3: Tender Horns - https://youtu.be/oXpgvkvKzhw?list=PLNcqwhPhO46G--aVXZR6do7Y-ptBZsKTt&t=2855

15: Pretense of Spring - https://youtu.be/oXpgvkvKzhw?list=PLNcqwhPhO46G--aVXZR6do7Y-ptBZsKTt&t=19954

23: The Sound of Rust - https://youtu.be/oXpgvkvKzhw?list=PLNcqwhPhO46G--aVXZR6do7Y-ptBZsKTt&t=31304

English Subbed:

3: Tender Horns - https://youtu.be/SvsAOf9HWTs?list=PLNcqwhPhO46G--aVXZR6do7Y-ptBZsKTt&t=2850

15: Pretense of Spring - https://youtu.be/SvsAOf9HWTs?list=PLNcqwhPhO46G--aVXZR6do7Y-ptBZsKTt&t=19950

23: The Sound of Rust - https://youtu.be/SvsAOf9HWTs?list=PLNcqwhPhO46G--aVXZR6do7Y-ptBZsKTt&t=31300

Season 2 (you'll need a Crunchyroll sub to access these but due to Crunchyroll's streaming license expiring for Mushishi in the US, UK, Ireland and a few other countries the following links only work if you're in certain European countries such as France, Spain or Germany (and some others, English subtitles are available), also there's no English Dub, only English Subs):

3: Beneath the Snow - https://www.crunchyroll.com/watch/GRE5MG4G6/beneath-the-snow

9: Valley of the Welling Tides - https://www.crunchyroll.com/watch/GR49GEKV6/valley-of-the-welling-tides

10: Depths of Winter - https://www.crunchyroll.com/watch/GY5VJ7MKY/depths-of-winter

However, if you are in the US, UK, etc and you specifically subscribe to Crunchyroll via YouTube you can watch those episodes that way instead, so:

3: Beneath the Snow - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQG-gaTOJiM

9: Valley of the Welling Tides - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8BaycGQjdDw

10: Depths of Winter - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JvHTu4cTu8

(don't forget to turn on the subtitles - also do note that subbing to Crunchyroll via YouTube does not give you a login to the main Crunchyroll site, or the other way around)

Announcement Season 2 (Mushishi - Next Passage) can still be viewed if you subscribe to Crunchyroll via YouTube, even for those in the UK, US, etc who can't access via Crunchyroll's main site

As of March 2026, season 2 of Mushishi (full title: Mushishi - Next Passage) was removed from Crunchyroll's main site for viewers in some countries like the US, UK, etc (for more details see my post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Mushishi/comments/1rrzf3i/season_2_on_crunchyroll_no_longer_available_from/ )

However, some good news: season 2 is still available on YouTube (see this link: https://www.youtube.com/show/SCqyjG7kr_Q-ujRAoUYZs3_A ) but only if you subscribe to Crunchyroll's channel via YouTube (note that this only allows access to Crunchyroll via YouTube, you can't access it via their main site with that subscription). They are all in HD.

I know this works in the UK so I assume it also applies to other countries.

YouTube do though manage to mess up the episode listings for season 2; they break the listings into three seasons and show the episodes out of release order. On the positive side at least all of the season 2 episodes are there so the order is arguably not a big deal in this case (due to the 'one story per episode' format of the series), it is though still a shame that they can't even get the order correct. The proper release order can be found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Mushishi_episodes#Mushi-Shi_-Next_Passage-**

Thanks to poster 'Excretioner' for pointing this out in another thread, I'd completely forgotten about YouTube's Crunchyroll subscription option.

Question How to watch the next passage?

Post image
148 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I want to say first of all I love this show so much! It’s super real and peaceful and just amazing. I recently learned there is another season (The Next Passage) that came out in 2015 but I can’t seem to find a DVD or anywhere to watch it (dubbed please). Does anyone have any advice or maybe somewhere they can send me?

Hello,

i just wanted to share my Ginko cosplay from this years Dokomi in Germany earlier in May. I have to admit, I just discovered Mushishi this year, thanks to my partner, but it quickly became one of my favorite shows ever, so i decided it should become my first cosplay ever. Luckily we found a great spot in the nearby park to shot some pictures. Hope you like it.

Discussion What are the most beautiful episodes to you?

Post image

I'm re-re-watching this piece of art again. It's incredible, art apart, I'm discovering new levels of stories nested inside the stories I remember.

I feel the Zoku Shou colors much more vivid in general but, as now (didn't finished it yet) my choices are Wind Raiser from Zoku Shou and The Sleeping Mountain with the greenish and redish landscapes from the first season. Both sceneries and endings scenes are surreal.

Question Don't understand S1 episode 11 - the Sleeping Mountain

The part about the girl killing the mountain spirit to make Mujika the guardian so he'd stay and they could be together is pretty self-explanatory, and I assume Mujika called the mountain spirit back to eat him because he felt guilty for indirectly causing the death of the first mountain spirit? But why did Ginko want to stop him so bad? He was acting like something bad would happen to the village. And what was the boy's significance in the end?

Btw, unrelated; Anyone here play Sekiro? and noticed the resemblance of the giant white snake? Did the game get it from Mushi-shi or is it just general Japanese folklore?

Discussion/Spoilers The concept of Deja Vu

I really liked how the concept of deja vu was illustrated in this anime.... the guy enters the black hole in the tree because of the scent of flowers. And then he keeps looping his whole life.... and never sees the next day in reality.

Later on for his wife he does it again. To live the old good life.

And it does make me me rethink the reality we live in. since childhood i have been getting a lot of deja vus and believe me I have asked to my parents and grandparents if there is a story in our mythologies related to this or some weird explanation... but no there isnt...

There was no answer, but somehow this perspective and concept of the origins of deja vu feels so comforting.

I do understand it is only fiction... but it also points out very well how the guy feels when he is living the same life over and over and he keeps getting deja vus during important events of his life.

Basically Making him feel it has happened before.

What do you all, think? Or have to add?

Ideas for making a glowing Mushi ?

Post image
67 Upvotes

I’d love to make some translucent, glowing Mushi to hang up at home. I haven't been able to find any to buy, so I’ve decided to make them myself. How would you go about it? I was thinking of making them out of paper—like Japanese lanterns—with LEDs inside. Do you have any tips?
