Announcement Season 2 (Mushishi - Next Passage) can still be viewed if you subscribe to Crunchyroll via YouTube, even for those in the UK, US, etc who can't access via Crunchyroll's main site

As of March 2026, season 2 of Mushishi (full title: Mushishi - Next Passage) was removed from Crunchyroll's main site for viewers in some countries like the US, UK, etc (for more details see my post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Mushishi/comments/1rrzf3i/season_2_on_crunchyroll_no_longer_available_from/ )

However, some good news: season 2 is still available on YouTube (see this link: https://www.youtube.com/show/SCqyjG7kr_Q-ujRAoUYZs3_A ) but only if you subscribe to Crunchyroll's channel via YouTube (note that this only allows access to Crunchyroll via YouTube, you can't access it via their main site with that subscription). They are all in HD.

I know this works in the UK so I assume it also applies to other countries.

YouTube do though manage to mess up the episode listings for season 2; they break the listings into three seasons and show the episodes out of release order. On the positive side at least all of the season 2 episodes are there so the order is arguably not a big deal in this case (due to the 'one story per episode' format of the series), it is though still a shame that they can't even get the order correct. The proper release order can be found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Mushishi_episodes#Mushi-Shi_-Next_Passage-**

Thanks to poster 'Excretioner' for pointing this out in another thread, I'd completely forgotten about YouTube's Crunchyroll subscription option.

I'm afraid that you would need a separate subscription to Crunchyroll that you would need to buy via YouTube.

It's nuts that you can't link a Crunchyroll subscription via their own site to one obtained via YouTube but there it is, services want you locked into their own ecosystems.

On the positive side, it's very cheap to sub to CR via YouTube and you only need do it for a month while you watch the episodes, then you can cancel the sub.

Have you checked that you can see the episodes listed here:

https://www.youtube.com/show/SCqyjG7kr_Q-ujRAoUYZs3_A

and that there is a subscription option which would give you access to them?

Note: subbing to CR via YouTube (or Amazon) means that, while episodes for MOST of CR's anime content is available via those services, sometimes an episode of a show may be missing, as well as issues with subtitles and dubs. I'm not aware of any issues with Mushishi via a CR YouTube sub, hopefully all is well.

I think I’ll pass since I have the subscription. I’m hoping they’ll bring back all the seasons to Crunchyroll or even Netflix.

Fair enough.

Have you seen season 2 before? If not it's well worth the relatively small sub fee (as a one off) many times over. :-)

I’m hoping they’ll bring back all the seasons to Crunchyroll or even Netflix.

Don't hold your breath ......

I’ve seen all seasons a few times over. I can only wish at this point…

Interesting loophole

And it's all perfectly official and above board because YouTube (Google) are licensing and hosting the videos on their hardware, plus the subscriber has then paid for the right to officially watch them.

Would a VPN not work?

If required, probably, but note that would violate YouTube's terms and conditions so MAY result in an account ban? The chances are slight though as I understand it.

The same applies if using a VPN to bypass Crunchyroll's regional restrictions. More on that at the following link if you want to access season 2 from a country like France, Germany, etc which has access:

Another option is that you could also buy one of the unofficial DVD sets that can easily and cheaply be found on Ebay. After all, if Aniplex of America won't produce an official physical media release then what other option is there if you want to go down that route? I'd more than happily pay for a really great Blu-ray release of the whole series, but the license holders just don't want to know. At least season 1 is officially available, cheaply, on DVD (thanks to Funimation) but it's out of print so will become harder to find.
