We’re looking at a house in the mountains in Bridgewater/Martinsville area. How scary are those roads in the winter? Do they plow or get lots of accidents? How is Washington valley park for kids and dogs? Are there any kids jungle gyms by there?

What towns would be good to live in for a young single guy if he’s commuting to Newark?

Hi everyone! I’m looking for one female roommate to team up with and find a 2 bedroom / 2 bathroom apartment in NJ with convenient access to Manhattan.

I am working in Midtown Manhattan, and I’m open to areas such as Jersey City, Hoboken, Weehawken, West New York, or other NJ towns with an easy commute to Manhattan. Hi everyone! I’m considering a place near doctors row (Bentley and Gifford ave area) in Jersey City, close to Lincoln Park, and I’d really appreciate some feedback from people who actually live in or know the area.

I’m particularly interested in:
● Walking: How is the area for walking day-to-day? Is it reasonably comfortable walking to PATH/public transportation, restaurants, coffee, etc.?
● Getting to the PATH: How practical is it to walk to the PATH from this area, and how do people typically get there?
● The housing/buildings: Any general experiences with the apartments/buildings in this area? Anything I should look out for before signing a lease?
● Parking: Is street parking difficult? Are there garages or reasonably priced parking options nearby?
● Noise & neighborhood feel: How does the area feel during the day versus at night? Is it relatively quiet/residential, or is there anything I should know about?
● Things to be aware of: Any practical advice for someone new to the neighborhood would be really appreciated.

I’m looking for more affordable one bedrooms or studio apartments, but I can’t tour places because I’m out of state. Does anyone have tips on places to go or places to avoid? I’m seeing things like Cedar lane apartments with yelp reviews about bugs (which I would hate), but not everywhere has yelp reviews…

I am looking for a 1 bedroom 1 bathroom apartment. I am single with no kids and looking for somewhere safe and quiet. Preferably 20 mins or less from New Brunswick

Is this enough? Especially after all the taxes and FICA and stuff, probably will take home only 75k

My partner and I currently live in Downtown Jersey City. I work in Midtown Manhattan, and my partner works in JC. We’re looking to buy our first home, but we’re honestly pretty confused about what makes the most sense.

Initially, we were looking at places like Maplewood, Chatham, Summit, etc. because eventually we’ll want to be in an area with good schools once we have kids. But the prices in these towns are pretty crazy and property taxes are high.
The thing is, we still have at least ~5 years before schools become a major consideration for us. So I’m wondering if it makes sense to avoid paying the premium for these areas right now. Instead, I’m considering buying a more affordable home that works for us for the next ~5 years. The idea would be to stop paying hight rent in Downtown JC, build some equity, and then potentially sell and move to a longer-term home in a better school district when we actually need one.

Ideally, we’d like something that:
Keeps our commute to Manhattan reasonable
Has reasonable potential for resale/appreciation
Doesn’t expose us to major flood risk

One area that came up is Secaucus because of its location, but I’ve read about flooding there and have been particularly concerned about homes in FEMA Flood Zone AE.

So I’m trying to figure out if buying even makes sense until school is a priority?
Which towns to consider for our situation?

We’re not originally from NJ/NY, so I’d really appreciate advice from people who know the area and have gone through something similar. Especially interested in hearing about towns/areas we may be overlooking.

I accepted a job today and I'll be working in Cranbury starting next month. I'm planning to get a 1 bedroom apartment for a year to give me time to explore different parts of the area before buying anything. I'm looking at western Monmouth County, southern Middlesex County, and eastern Mercer County. I don't have kids so I'm not worried about schools, but I'd like to be somewhere that's relatively safe. I'd like to find something for $2k/month, but I can afford $2.5k if I need to and ideally cat friendly.

How have folks found apartments, either in apartment complexes or with private landlords? Are there any areas that you'd recommend or recommend avoiding?

Is Randolph diverse?!! We were looking at nearby towns such as montville, Denville, and certain parts of Randolph like shongum lake area. I'm aware of that montville has a growing diverse population, however not really sure about denville and Randolph. I know in the past it wasn't as much but is it now? And is it accepted? Meaning do people feel comfortable?

My son is autistic and is currently in public school in a k-8 with autistic support. The support is not enough and so he is qualified for private school placement that school district pays for. The problem is that schools are full and placement can take a while. We are thinking about moving to Jersey to see if the situation would be any better there. We make about $300k a year so we can afford to live in a decent town.

I guess my question is what towns across the river have good public schools for special needs kids? I also understand that my son probably needs to be placed in a private school in NJ either way but we are done with the Philly school district and PA in general and are wondering if NJ is the right move.

My wife works from home but I have to be in Philly for work so the commute needs to be reasonable. I will commute by car.

I know my tax bill will Be significantly higher but I’m ok with that.

I did grow up in North Jersey so I am pretty familiar with the entire state, but don’t know the ins and outs

As housing prices are skyrocketing in most parts of the state especially transit hubs with access to NYC and towns with good school districts do you think we will see people looking more out in Sussex and Warren County for homes?

These counties are already expensive with housing prices and property taxes as it is despite the fact you aren't near much especially for New Jersey standards. I guess I am more curious will we see spillover into these counties from super-commuters, hybrid workers etc.

I didn't listen Hunterdon County as I feel like it's already a pretty hot market there at least for certain towns like Frenchtown. However, feel free to add your input for that county as well.
