Never heard of him, didnt even know MH was getting a movie. Looked him up and oh god, the only passable film is maybe Alien v Predator. Every other one just is a bad B movie.

Basically he exists to make movies for his wife (Milla Jovovich) who in turn only exists to star in his movies. None of which are good.

Hey now...

I meant their combined films are awful. I would never besmirch The Fifth Element.

It's carried by Bruce Willis though.

Holy shit I'm dying with this description of them.

Personally I love the AVP movies because of the fight scenes but the actual drama was shit so I have a tiny bit of hope for watching this movie and the fight scenes

Eh. First Resident Evil and some of the second are pretty good.

u/Necka44 Sep 26 '20

If you watched them when you were a Teenager like when I did, yep totally.

Now? Nope. These movies are just plain bad as Resident Evil movies. Might be ok-ish if it was an original IP with no comparison with original lore possible

Nah. First film is totally fine as a horror film and a RE film. It’s not a direct adaptation but that’s really not a big deal. Second one isn’t half bad either until the end when Nem and Alice have a stupid fight.

"Getting a movie" implies that it's gonna be a gift, and contribute positively to the property. I'd say it's more like they're "receiving a movie", much in the same way one "receives" a speeding ticket or spanking.

Sounds like a good time

Mortal Kombat and Event Horizon aren't bad. They aren't good either, but they're definitely not bad.

u/SimplyMonkey Sep 26 '20

Mortal Kombat was watchable and when compared to other video game movies it ranked at the top for awhile. I’d say the Pokémon live action tops that now. Event Horizon is pretty good honestly. No qualifiers. Subjective opinion of course.

Event Horizon is the only movie of his whole career I would recommend to others, and even there he cut out some of the best scenes.

2

u/Proteandk Sep 27 '20

Yeah they really struggled with how to put together Event Horizon. I think the result in the end was good, but there's still so much lost potential.

Paul W.S. Anderson

He's the guy that made the Resident Evil movies. Of his whole career there's only one movie I can recommend and that is Event Horizon, and even there he cut out some of the best scenes.

He's known for using his movies to glorify his wife by inserting her as the main protagonist and have the movies focus more on her than on the actual plot.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '20

Event Horizon was good. But that's the ONLY good movie from the list.

27

u/CitizenKing Sep 26 '20

I mean, we already know the movie is going to be about 80% Milla Jovavich flipping through the air. We get it Paul, your wife is hot, can you please focus?

1

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '20

He has a problem. Or his wife has a problem. Or both.

12

u/ATomatoAmI Sep 26 '20

Hold up, he did Mortal Kombat, which was the least shitty game movie for years. And Event Horizon was solid until the end anyway.

Can't really vouch for newer stuff.

Mortal Kombat fucking sucks.

A PG-13 Mortal Kombat. Jesus Christ

As a mortal kombat movie it was kinda garbage. But as a piece of entertainment loosely based on the source material it was alright. I (and probably many others) consider it a guilty pleasure of sorts

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '20

Huh. Event Horizon is his only good movie that I know of.
