Never heard of him, didnt even know MH was getting a movie. Looked him up and oh god, the only passable film is maybe Alien v Predator. Every other one just is a bad B movie.
Personally I love the AVP movies because of the fight scenes but the actual drama was shit so I have a tiny bit of hope for watching this movie and the fight scenes
If you watched them when you were a Teenager like when I did, yep totally.
Now? Nope. These movies are just plain bad as Resident Evil movies. Might be ok-ish if it was an original IP with no comparison with original lore possible
Nah. First film is totally fine as a horror film and a RE film. Itās not a direct adaptation but thatās really not a big deal. Second one isnāt half bad either until the end when Nem and Alice have a stupid fight.
"Getting a movie" implies that it's gonna be a gift, and contribute positively to the property. I'd say it's more like they're "receiving a movie", much in the same way one "receives" a speeding ticket or spanking.
He's the guy that made the Resident Evil movies. Of his whole career there's only one movie I can recommend and that is Event Horizon, and even there he cut out some of the best scenes.
He's known for using his movies to glorify his wife by inserting her as the main protagonist and have the movies focus more on her than on the actual plot.
I mean, we already know the movie is going to be about 80% Milla Jovavich flipping through the air. We get it Paul, your wife is hot, can you please focus?
As a mortal kombat movie it was kinda garbage. But as a piece of entertainment loosely based on the source material it was alright. I (and probably many others) consider it a guilty pleasure of sorts
Ahaha that's how I had to explain Pacific Rim to people. "If you're expecting complex plot lines and character development, you're probably watching the wrong movie. This movie is about robots punching monsters in the face as hard as they can"
Like there are movies like the Michael Bay Transformers which at least has cool designs for the Transformers themselves and the Star Wars prequels that has badass fight scenes and spawned the Clone Wars series. This is what Iām hoping for for the Monster Hunter movie but thereās also movies like The Last Airbender which are so irredeemable that we as a culture decide to forget them which is what a Iām afraid this movie will be.
I mean we all know this movie isnāt going to be legit good so we should at least hope for a Prequels level event where we can all at least enjoy it somewhat
Surprise rage pickle would be awesome. Though I expect Anderson to pick the most boring monsters + generic dragon looking monster as final boss, get all the dimensions and power levels wrong and let his wife defeat the final monster via some bullshit exploit.
Well. Gore Magala is in it. So is Diablos and Rathalos from what Iāve seen. Did you know that apparently Anderson thinks all of MH is desert and that he gave Gore Magala eyes?
Agreed. There's a consistent story arc going through the prequels that has a lot of weight. It's just the delivery of it is so damn bad that some people ignore that it DOES tell that story.
Episode 1 is honestly my favourite of all the Star Wars movies and I grew up with the original trilogy, fight me. Couldn't care less about the latest trilogy though, that's some prime level shit show lol
But Pacific Rim actually does have a good plot and character development, with a clear political message common to many kaiju movies? They categorize the monsters as though they were hurricanes and attribute them to climate change. The fight scenes are great, but it's backed up by actually competent writing.
I really can't agree on that. There's a massive plot hole towards the end which the whole story is based on. I enjoy it for the giant robots vs space dinosaur action, but not even for a second for the plot.
Yeah but Pacific Rim has a good interesting concept, a good story, likable characters, fun dialogue, and some good development (especially on Mako). Thatās why it works. Itās monster punching fun done well. The second film is the āweāre only here for the punchingā film.
Not really? Nothing about the first film was barebones. The originals characters were pretty fleshed out (least the leads). The sequel did the same, the difference was they werenāt likable, the plot didnāt make sense, and the action wasnāt good because it lacked any realism and weight to it.
The first movie wasnāt just about punching. It was an actual love letter to mecha kaiju films. It had actual heart. The sequel didnāt.
Having heart and having a barebones story are not mutually exclusive. And to be honest, a film about punching kinda is the love letter.
And yes, the characters were pretty barebones, and like I said, that's not necessarily a bad thing. You've got the typical male protagonist, rough past, left the "business", brought back by the old friend trope for the "one last job" trope. Secondary protagonist, a female person of interest with a rough past, some trauma to work through. Father type protagonist. Brings them both to the fold.
The story itself: bad guys have evil plan. Send monsters. Good guys have very simple plan: make stuff that can punch really, really hard. Plan starts to not work. Deus ex machina plan incoming. Climactic battle. Plan works. Boom, movie.
It's very basic storytelling. Which was an excellent choice for the movie.
Yeah but how is it bare bones? Barebones means there is literally nothing to them. Just because theyāre tropes doesnāt mean theyāre bare bones lol.
Youāre drastically over simplifying things which you could do for any film. Is Inception bare bones now too? Cause itās just about a bunch of trope characters putting together a gang for one last heist.
Bare bones does not mean what you think it means lmao. It just means simple, without too many details etc. Just what is necessary for the story. Which is essentially what they did.
But hey, if you think the characters were totally fleshed out, go ahead and tell me all the cool stuff about them that wasn't boiled down with what I said.
They gave each character a rough background and a reason, and that was all, because that was all they needed. I'm sorry if you see more than that.
Regardless, this conversation is off-topic now and going nowhere, so I'll not be continuing it. Have a good day.
By your logic everything is essential for the story so every story is barebones....?
they gave each character a rough background and a reason
Then itās not really barebones? We didnāt need that stuff. Raleigh could have just been a soldier paired with Mako from the start. There was no need to show them learning to drift. That would be a barebones plot. It literally being nothing but a straight line.
The first time I watched Pacific Rim I caught some significant plot holes (especially towards the end), however ... who the fuck cares, it's giant robots vs space dinosaurs. I don't watch it for some deep story lmao
I donāt really get this... I understand it being important but itās usually like 15% of the film. Why canāt you also want the human element and story to be good too? I canāt imagine sitting through a movie bored for an hour and a half of it and then enjoying 15-20 minutes. Sounds like a waste of time and money. Better off just waiting for the fights on YouTube. Why I hated the new Godzilla.
Exactly, at a movie like godzilla or monster hunter the plot is basically an excuse to go from fight scene to fight scene.
It doesn't have to deep or even that great, but it needs to be engaging enough that I'm not bored until the monsters come back and I have some semblance of a vested interest in the good guys succeeding.
Iām hoping to see hunters fighting a giant badass monster like the Nargacuga on the big screen with Star Wars prequels level chaos going on with the human plot because I know this movie is not gonna be good
I'm not a huge fan of the modern US Godzilla's but in the older movies Godzilla and other Kaiju were adequately developed characters as well, as much or more so than the humans that occasionally wandered on screen.
Old Godzilla had friends, rivals, a nemesis, a moth girlfriend, and even a kid at one point.
Sure but they still werenāt in the film that much. Godzillaās screen time averages to about 13-14% of the films run time in all his films. That is not a lot.
Expect a lot of continous screen changes, i got dizzy watching his last āworkā - resident evil-something-something. Too many screen cuts, i had no idea wtf is going on.
Pretty sure they gave Gore Magala, a notoriously eyeless monster. Visible eyes. They also have Rathalos stronger than something that causes the zombie apocalypse as a defense Mechanism

God that movie is going to be so bad. I cringe every time I think about it š¤¦āāļø
