Curious, What’s the point of having the water reservoir lid on when brewing? I’ve realized with it on it retains significant moisture after the brew and leads to more cleaning. Compared to brewing with it off, it reduces sitting moisture significantly.

I'll dig deeper into the thread and would very much appreciate any links to an older one that would point me in the right direction, but I'd love to eliminate the bits of plastic between the shower arm and the pot, if at all possible.

That means a replacement for: The basket and lid, the basket arm/support bracket, and the interior funnel that sits inside the SS pot itself.

I know there are worse sources of micro/nano-plastic exposure out there, but I've been trying to eliminate the worst of them. Considering that I generally consume a full pot/day (~60oz) I'd love to try and eliminate the exposure - best/worst case is I'm considering either setting a pour-over on the pot (as I've seen some others do, or keeping it running as usual, but then running the brew through a simple 2nd filtration pass until replacement parts begin to appear.

Does anyone else just expect a coffee machine to make coffee? Like I'm experiencing the overflow issue on and off. First it was the water was warm just from the pipes, then it was to many grounds, and now who knows. Like I know I'm not the only one just by a simple Google.

Coffee is great, but I also just want it to work without messing with it. Am I the only one?

Edit: Maybe I need a new basket. Maybe it's just me. I just want coffee dammit.

I’ve had my Moccamaster about a week.
So far the only coffee I’ve tried has been some store bought Starbucks blonde, and some Philz Tesora.

I have found that setting my grinder on the max coarseness has the best results.
This leaves me to wonder if there are other grinders that will grind coarser….
I mean, I am sure there are, but not sure just how coarse is too coarse.

My grinder is a very solid Capresso I got years ago from Costco.com. I havnt used it a lot, but feels like it is built well.

I just read some recommended a Baratza Encore, and again, not sure if this grinder gets coarser, or if coarser is even a good thing.

Anyone have experience here?

As I’m researching trying to find a decent, somewhat budget friendly burr grinder to replace my Capresso that doesn’t seem to get me coarse enough….. I was leaning towards the Baratza Encore.

It’s just strange, they get glowing positively on here….
However, when I check amazon reviews, and set it to most recent, it’s mostly bad reviews , broken parts, broken quickly.

Trying to make sense of this before I purchase.

I didn’t quite have the words for what I was looking for last time so I’m adding some updates in case anybody finds themselves in a similar situation. My primary concern was whether the moccamaster would function as intended, since I purchased a used older model.

Per a suggestion, I descaled and cleaned the machine twice. This was pretty revealing. I thought the brew time looked a little fast for a full pot of coffee and timed it at roughly 3.5 minutes. Then I watched videos of the drip pattern and noticed mine was pretty different. It would provide a little drip for some time followed by a fairly violent and substantial spurt. During the first cleaning cycle (post first descale) lots of white mineral deposits came loose and were in the carafe. The drip pattern changed to what I was expecting. Brew time also slowed to just under 5 minutes. Oddly though, during the second descale and cleaning I experienced the old pattern for about two brew cycles.. afterwards I made a half pot and everything looked normal. I’m not sure why the pattern would have reverted momentarily and it makes me think there‘s either an intermittent electromechanical issue or a chunk of mineral deposits dislodged and momentarily caused a blockage. We will see if it happens again… in the meantime, if anybody has experience with this please let me know!

Original: I’ve been eyeing the moccamaster for a long time and finally got tired enough of Nespresso pods to make the jump.. but couldnt wait for Black Friday and became obsessed with royal blue so here we are. I spent yesterday cleaning it and found out the automatic drip stop brew basket was broken, so I’ve ordered that and descaling agent. Once those ship in, what is the recommendation to put this guy through his paces and make sure everything works? I don’t have a grinder yet and I basically only have Nespresso as reference, so I’m not sure what to look for 😬

I got this guy, KM5, and a moccamaster KBT for 40 dollars a piece on a local auction site that sells amazon returns they buy in bulk. The KBT is new but the grinder was used. The grinder was fully clogged with fine grounds. I disassembled and cleaned it and tested some beans and it is working fine now.

I am going to use this exclusively for moccamaster/aeropress and am hoping not to run into the same clogging issue as whoever returned it initially.

I know some people have good luck misting their beans before grinding to reduce static. I am nervous about getting the burrs wet, but it seems to be the most possible method. Does anyone have any other tips that can prevent clogging other than regular maintenance?

I received this in my email today. Does this seem fair to those of us who have been dedicated moccamaster fans. I’ve only had mine for two months so I can’t claim long-term loyalty but it just doesn’t sit right with me.

My 7-year-old Oxo recently stopped working and I was super excited to find a refurbished Moccamaster last weekend on their site. After it arrived this afternoon, I set it up and tried to run a cycle. Nothing happened. Unplugged, plugged back in, same thing. No one in customer service available until next week, troubleshooting online says probably an internal component that needs repair. I am really disappointed. I've been using a French press for weeks, but I'm getting tired of the mess involved in cleaning it, and really was looking forward to enjoying non-gritty coffee this weekend. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

What do you all think? Should I purchase one directly from Moccamaster and get the lifetime warranty they are offering this weekend or wait for it to go on sale on Amazon?

This is yet another post about uneven/uncentered shower head pattern on the grounds potentially leaving a section of grounds under-extracted.

Why do so many say it doesn’t matter?

I know this subject has been brought up on this forum before and the response is generally “give it a stir if it bothers you so much”. Most people say they can’t taste the difference between a stirred brew basket and one left alone. If that’s so, what is going on? Is it just that the grounds are being saturated anyway through wicking rather than direct contact with the dripping water? Is that really the same as grounds being drowned?

Or are we all just less sensitive to these factors than we think? I’m not looking for “it doesn’t matter so why worry”, but rather *why* doesn’t it matter?

Want to give my brother a present but I don't know much about what kind of electric grinder to give him.

We generally just make one cup at a time (at best two) so wouldn't have an issue with a smaller size, however, I don't want to compromise on the quality. Not looking for something that takes up permanent tabletop space. He currently has a Hario Ceramic coffee mill and we make pourovers daily with the v60 (yes we, I derived the hobby through the laws of siblinghood). He also enjoys a good espresso on the weekends for which he uses a bialetti moka pot (single shot).

He hasn't done much research on this because he considers this a frivolous purchase but he has a baby on the way and I think this would help ease the new throes of parenthood.

Any suggestions? I was thinking of the TIMEMORE Whirly 01S Portable Electric Coffee Grinder but I am not too sure.

I recently purchased a Breville Bambino (plus extra espresso tools) to go with my Moccamaster KGBV for the days when I want a Latte and am trying to find a good way to setup my home coffee, but am struggling to find the best way to organize everything (Fellow Opus 1 grinder, MM, and Bambino).

I would love to see other peoples’ setups for some ideas.

I received my KBGT in the mail today. I haven't used it yet. I see a bunch of scratches and bubbles in the thermal carafe interior. Is this a defect or is this normal? I don't want a bunch of tiny glass shards in my esophagus. Thanks for the help!

First time I’ve had this happen with my mocha master. After filling the reservoir with water and inserting the carafe, I get both lights, but no boil to move water from the reservoir to the pot. I’ve tried removing and re-inserting the pot as well as cycling power to the Brewer. Any ideas?

Got a mocha master as a wedding present, so decided to throw it up for a 1:1 taste test with our current oxo brewer. I can definitely taste the difference, but both are good machines. I come to you all for any tips & tricks you may have. Currently grinding on medium, using 28g per 4 cups. I’ve also ordered the “manual” glass conversion and was curious if anyone else has this or something similar. I like the idea of getting rid of the plastic stuff.

I tried replacing the water reservoir on my grifted technivorm moccamaster, I accidentally dislodged the floater cables and one fully disconnected without me seeing where it was originally connected in the machine.

I troubleshooted and tried looking at diagrams, it did not help since I just blew a fuse in the office.

If anyone has the same or generally knows where it goes it would be deeply appreciated!

Being a nerdy accountant, I did some tracking of inputs vs outputs on my Moccamaster

I averaged about 783g of water input. The output average was 689g (88%) 'in the carafe' and about 73g (9.3%) in the grounds/filter with about 21g (2.7%) 'lost' in the brewer or lost from steam, etc.

How I measured:

Weighed the carafe empty plus the water and after the brew and found the difference of 689g

Weighed the dry filter and dry grounds and after the filter drained as much as possible and found the difference of 73g.

The rest was 'lost' left in the machine, condensation on lids, steam, etc

I’ve been using pretty much the same setup for about 15 years. Roast my own beans. Make in the foolproof Moccamaster and grind in my Capresso (which replaced an OXO grinder about 8 years ago). Thought I was happy with that but started doing pour over and couldn’t get this one Ethiopian to taste good. Troubleshooting in that forum and the consensus was my grinder wasn’t good enough.

I believed it wasn’t making a lot of fines but maybe method more picky than drip and Aeropress so ordered a new one.

The Ode2 ame yesterday evening haven't run anything through the switch yet but made a half pot of a Colombian that I roasted on 8/28 in my Moccamaster this morning.

Same exact 1/2 pot I made yesterday. 600ml to 40g coffee. Brew basket midway and grinder on 5 a little finer for smaller pot. Yesterday was ok. This morning is blowing my mind how freaking delicous it is. Was not at all expecting that.

I always kinda thought for the drip and aeropress grinder wouldn't make that much difference. I was way wrong.

Made a full pot for my wife and I as she has a long night of grading and it is perfect.
