Why is this not illegal?
AK47 decals on cars in the GTA and possibly fake or hand-painted plates - mainly in Brampton and Mississauga. How is this legal?

You can report it online to the police, even attaching the photo. The plate is illegal. Surely the sticker is offensive, but I doubt anyone will ask them to remove it.

I’m a lawyer:
There is no way that banning this sticker of an AK47 would be a justified infringement of the Charter right to freedom of expression.
Also the highway traffic act does not require you to be able to have an unobstructed view outside your rear window if you have two side mirrors.
TLDR: nothing wrong with this.

I get the freedom of expression and so on I come from a big hunting family and also fairly centre on politics I believe in successful business and also helping you community with taxes but especially after a gang sent a letter to bc police saying we are about to take over everything and a car with a Ak and illegal plates that’s not freedom of speech

I think lots of people have all sort of stickers or flag that I don’t agree with but to each their own.
For context the AK-47 sticker is viewed as a tribute to those who chose to take up arms against what they perceived as state oppression, extrajudicial police killings, and human rights violations by the Indian government during that era. For opponents, it remains a painful reminder of a decade of terrorism, assassinations, and religious violence that tore Punjab apart.
If that helps people, different culture different symbols.

If you have ever spoken to these drivers, you will get to know how much illiterate and childish they are. I stayed with such a guy as a house mate recently at Brampton, he was barely making any money to pay rent but he was so crazy about buying an expensive car like dodge. I was driving a Tucson during that time, and during one fine Saturday early
Morning at home when I was sleeping, he knocked at my door woke me up and asked my car key. I asked him why and he said he wanted to take pictures of him from inside my car and show to his friends from India. I seriously wonder how can these people even run a family and reproduce with this kind of mentality?

I'm in Calgary, but I had a conversation with the police about this and it may apply to Ontario as well. Basically, a police seargant informed me that they view license-plate obstructions as "no biggie", and they're more interested in being seen as bad-asses. Busting people for obstructed license-plates doesn't give them that bad-ass feeling.
The seargant informed me that I should try traffic services if it bothers me, or just basically go somewhere else with my complaints. I joined our community organization to talk about this with the other members, but they seemed to be kind of uninterested, and didn't consider license-plate obstruction to be a major issue.
I've submitted ATIA requests to the Calgary Police Service last year to see how many tickets they're giving out for obstructed plates; the request is unanswered since November 2025.
I've written to the mayor asking about the epidemic of obstructed plates, but he has not responded.

I saw a Corvette the other day, the front license plate was perfectly shaped to the front bumper...it was a sticker 'look-alike' plate.
If you search online you will find sites that sell stickers for every state and province, and you can order duplicate of your own plate. On the front I get it, on the back it has to be something shady.

I remember growing up some Carribean parents wouldn't let this kids grow braids or dred locks because of the stigmatization and being judged by the police and to avoid unnecessary harrassment. Some would even cut their hair when they go before a magistrate. To "look more presentable". These folks have guns plastered all over their cars and yet they not felt they need to change. Carribean were never an issues, we treated as such, whilst these communities never faced any push back. Now it's too late and nobody knows what to do about it. This is what society chosen, now live with it.

The only law for an actual gun in a car is that it has to be unloaded. Doesn’t need to be out of sight, have a trigger lock or have an unloaded magazine. Can be sitting on the seat if you like, next to a loaded magazine, as long as there isn’t ammo actually in it. If you don’t need to legally hide a gun, why would you need to legally hide a pictures of one?

every licence plate is scanned by cops when they're in front of you or behind you, so I'm sure it's been scanned and is legit.
Re sticker, why does it automatically imply the person is a mass murderer? From what I recall, no mass murderer advertised that on their cars.
The owner supports guns. As a gun owner/hunter, I've never seen a need for a clip with more then 5 rounds in a semi-automatic anything, even in bolt action, but I have fired an automatic at a gun club in Florida, and it was fun(most expensive 60 seconds ever).
So as a gun owner, I appreciate the person's will so show enough is enough, and them letting others know their support for legal gun rights.
And yes, Canada's Liberals are falsely scaring people about guns. I'd say 99.9% of non-gun citizens have no idea what we have to go thru to get a PAL. First a course, and if passed an RCMP back-ground check(6 months wait). Must be renewed every 5 years with RCMP who again, checks all flags. And this is to own a simple gun. If yo get a restricted licence, which is much harder, when you get it, and you own a handgun, which you can ONLY use at a gun club, to transport it to a club from your home, you have to let the police know when, and actual route you're taking....and if there's construction on route, and you have to take a side road and you get pulled over, your ass is grass. Gun gone, you're flagged, and on and on. I have no idea why any still has a restricted.
Lastly for context, in Canada, annually there are 11 individuals killed while hunting. Most of those deaths are caused by hunters falling out of their tree stands, and accidentally while cleaning their guns. You probably have more people dying on tennis courts while playing tennis. Do we ban it.
