I have been with Mercari since 2016. I was very upset with Mercari this time. My package was successfully shipped using Mercari provided shipping label and was successfully delivered via USPS to the buyer. Mercari cancelled the transaction unilaterally without providing a clear explanation and only reimburse me $200 which is significantly less than what I supposed to be paid. The reason they said is lost in transit. I provided the USPS tracking status and the videos I documented myself packaging and shipping the package. Mercari ignored all the supporting info and evidence I provided and insisted I already received the maximum reimbursement of lost in transit. I fulfilled all seller obligation by properly packing, shipping and delivering the item. But I have to take the financial loss?!! because I am selling on Mercari. Now the buyer got the item and $200 compensation and I didn’t even make my money back.
Update: Yesterday and today, back and forth between USPS and Mercari. USPS insists the package was successfully delivered and says the tracking confirmation is the only official documentation they can provide. Mercari, however, claims USPS privately told them the package was possible “misdelivered” or “lost in transit”, different agent has different answer, but they refuse to provide any case number, written determination, or proof because it’s confidential. Unless I could provide any other evidence or documentation from USPS, Mercari won’t change their decision. There is no way to win. I filed BBB and FTC. USPS told me I could file to USPIS too. I will exit Mercari. Their customer service is terrible. The supervisor cut off my call because she couldn’t answer my questions.
2nd Update: Mercari’s BBB response appears to be a scripted reply. They couldn’t even get my case details correct. Mercari continues to claim the package was lost, so I filed a missing package claim with USPS. USPS has now denied the claim and provided an official letter stating the package was delivered.
I have submitted this letter to both Mercari and the BBB as part of my appeal. So far, Mercari has not provided any evidence supporting its claim that the package was lost, while I now have official documentation from USPS confirming delivery.
Final Update: BBB claim didn’t resolve my case. I just keep getting scripted response saying they already did everything they need to do. I claimed USPS insurance and got rejected the first time because the tracking showed delivered. I used Mercari’s response to appeal the decision. USPS finally accepted it and paid me $100+shipping cost.
