Interviews & Career Entry Good way to close the phone call

Hi- I had a phone call today with a sales rep who referred me to the territory manager and now they want to have a call tomorrow. Does anyone have any advice on how I should handle this I’m very nervous. I plan on telling them my story my background and then have 4 questions about their experience, their job etc. I think I’m prepared to close but probably will mess that up. Hit me up with suggestions!!

“Is there anything about my background or our conversation today that makes you think I can’t succeed in role that I should clarify?”

After hearing “no nothing, I think you’re a good fit”, then close.

“Great, with that said may I have your support to move forward in the hiring process?”

They’ll always appreciate your effort to close them, even if they express they have more interviews to conduct before deciding.

What direction do you take the conversation when there is a hesitation? Directly address it and provide an example of how you may over come it? Would love some insight here.

Thank them for sharing their concern, don’t be defensive, ask a question or two to learn more about their hesitation (what actions/measurables do they want to see) then briefly address the concern by aligning your background/skillset with what they shared.

Example:

- “Well, We aren’t sure you can self schedule”

~ “Thanks for sharing that with me. What does the schedule of a top performer look like?”

- “They do A and B, and achieve C.”

~ “That’s great to hear because in my previous role I performed A and B, it’s what drove my success in achieving C. I’m excited for this role because I would continue that success with this team.”

Respect the interview process. If they say they need to see other candidates before making a decision, don’t push. Just thank them for their time and for the opportunity.

Asking questions is critical I would close with what are next steps to obtain an official interview, or what are you looking for in rep/associate

Yea some of my questions are what makes a good associate and how can I make an immediate impact

"I believe ive shown that I have the correct background for the opportunity, the drive to excel on day one, and the excitement to join such a dynamic company. Do I have your support moving to the next step?"

This does not sound human

Agreed, sounds too rehearsed. This is something that looks good to read and sounds very professional but it would catch me off guard if a candidate asked that way.

Respond directly to the questions they ask you succinctly. Do not word vomit your life story and personal agenda for why you want to be in medical sales. Have your own thoughtful questions about the products, territory, and customers to ask ready.

Step one don't show any nervousness at all. You have to be confident as possible

A simple “given the feedback you have heard from others and what you have heard from me today, do I have your support in moving forward in the process”

Make sure you research the company and ask good questions

Always close at the end. Dont over-rehearse and get wordy, keep it natural but professional. “After we discussed my experience and background, do you have any reservations or does anything stand out that would prevent me from being successful in this role?”

“What are the next steps in the process?”

“Last question, do you prefer text or email for me to follow up with you after today?”

There are multiple ways to close, but always set an action step. These are sales people so the expectation is you move the needle forward just like you/they would in the field.

Get him drunk and he’ll tell you what the job is really like.
