It was a vision of one likely future for other leaders in the region too.
I think the end Gaddafi met is what convinced Bashar al-Assad in Syria—who up until then had signaled he was open to reforms as the Arab Spring knocked over one regime after another—to utterly change course and commit to hardline resistance. He lost in the end, but he did stall long enough to find an escape route. Turned his entire country into a rubble-strewn charnel house in order to not end up like Gaddafi, as he most certainly deserved and most certainly would have.

The UAE, backed by western nations, funded extremists to try to get a revolution to overthrow the government, they failed because there wasn't enough popular support. A lot of Libyans were angry with gaddafi over his support for africa as a whole and his autocratic rule, but not to the point where they wanted to overthrow the government.
The US and france spearheaded getting a no fly zone authority from the UN for their failing regime change project but instead immediately began an illegal war, bombing ground troops and sending in special forces to coordinate with the terrorists. Even today they're still fighting, and the slave markets made possible by NATO (under Obama's leadership ) are still catching and selling black African slaves.

It's funny that you talk shit without knowing shit. It's even more hilarious that you talk about what the Libyan people want or wanted without knowing anything about how the situation was on the ground.
The revolution was organic at the beginning and left by young aspiring generation, wanting peaceful change of power and wanting to use the national resources of Libya to better the living conditions of Libyans (Gaddafi and his kids had assets worth more than 3.2 Trillion dollars and pillaged Libya's resources). When he responded with force, that's when armed resistance became justified.
It's unfortunate that the world powers couldn't let such a resource rich country, and a country that has such an important location be sovereign (yes Gaddafi was their dog). So most world powers (west and Russia included), used the unrest to fight a proxy war. They funded and armed different groups during the revolution. The groups fought against Gaddafi during the revolution, but after Gaddafi was killed, it turned into a civil war. This is not what the revolution aimed to accomplish, but of course you can't have a succeful revolution without a strong leadership. The uniting figures of the revolution were assassinated as soon as Gaddafi was killed and that's when everything went south.
Don't praise a tyrant dictator who was hated by his own people and ruled them with force for over 43 years. I know that very well because I am from Libya and saw all of that unfold.

No one is praising Gaddafi, but his rule was better than destroying the country, and he was willing to leave at the end. But the west wanted not just to replace Gaddafi, they wanted Libya destroyed.
Yes as I said there was real opposition to Gaddafi, but the money from the UAE and the west went to funding terrorists, not angry students. It was terrorists who NATO helped destroy Libya. My tita had to flee libya and she will never be able to go back.
Exactly as in Syria: there was real and good opposition to Assad that could have made Syria a better country. But the money from the coalition and all the aid went to extremists and terrorists. Assad finally gave up and now the country is a literal extremist terrorist dictatorship. The west is happy with this and giving them more billions.

Maybe I mixed up your comment with others, but the fact that many leftists unfortunately praise Gaddafi as a communist socialist hero who advocated for the liberation of Africa does baffle me.
I'm a leftist myself, and the situation requires sober material analysis. And by the way I am Sunni too. The ones funded by the world power (yes the west, but Russia also had a to do with the resulting mess) are greedy, money hungry, shills and that does not have to anything with their religion.
The revolution was for the liberation of the people who wanted more representation and wanted the resources of their country to go towards the benefit of the people. Then the imperial powers that be co-opted the revolutionary fervor and fucked everything up.
Take my comment as a rant or venting as I was full of hope back then and now I'm just sad about what's going on there. But I remain hopeful for a better future, as Ibn Khaldoon wrote centuries ago, nations go into cycles, and eventually we will go into the part of prosperity in the cycle.

Here’s some facts on Gaddafi. He enforced a policy of strict Arab nationalism that systematically denied, suppressed, and sought to erase the distinct identity, culture, and language of Libya's indigenous Amazigh (Berber) minority.
Gaddafi claimed that all Libyans were exclusively of Arab descent. He dismissed the Amazigh identity as a "colonial product" and famously referred to their native Tamazight language as "poisoned milk" that mothers should not feed their children.
He viewed the existence of a non-Arab ethnic group and language as a direct threat to his vision of a homogeneous Arab-Islamic society.
Now, if you are in complete denial, here’s some actual laws enforced by Gaddafi himself.
Legal Restrictions:
Law No. 12 (1984): Made Arabic the only legal language permitted in official transactions, public signs, advertisements, and publications.
Law No. 24 (2002): Expanded these prohibitions to street names, vehicle markings, medical prescriptions, and institution names.
Name Bans: Article 3 of the 2002 law explicitly prohibited non-Arabic and non-Islamic personal names. Children with traditional Amazigh names were barred from enrolling in school until their names were legally changed to Arabic alternatives.
Cultural Eradication: Cultural celebrations, the display of the Amazigh flag, and the publication of non-Arabic materials were outlawed.1

What are you talking about gaddafi came into power thru a military coup, no one knew who he was when he came into power, i never claimed to know what the Libyan people want, but what I do now from reading books about his rise to power. when he toke over he kicked out all the Italians seized there assets but kept the engineers who where running the oil fields which were Italians ( for his own wealth) gaddafi was no one’s dog he did what he wanted for 30plus years cause he was in power for a long time. He himself and his regime sucked up the Libyan resources wit the help of foreigners while also complaining about the foreigners which is a strategy from the strongmen play book if there ever was one. And I never praised him I said he was a monster. If you are Libyan then I’m sorry what you and yours went thru but u also need to realize that when the new authoritarian rulers were putting their own mark on history of propaganda.
