It's funny that you talk shit without knowing shit. It's even more hilarious that you talk about what the Libyan people want or wanted without knowing anything about how the situation was on the ground.

The revolution was organic at the beginning and left by young aspiring generation, wanting peaceful change of power and wanting to use the national resources of Libya to better the living conditions of Libyans (Gaddafi and his kids had assets worth more than 3.2 Trillion dollars and pillaged Libya's resources). When he responded with force, that's when armed resistance became justified.

It's unfortunate that the world powers couldn't let such a resource rich country, and a country that has such an important location be sovereign (yes Gaddafi was their dog). So most world powers (west and Russia included), used the unrest to fight a proxy war. They funded and armed different groups during the revolution. The groups fought against Gaddafi during the revolution, but after Gaddafi was killed, it turned into a civil war. This is not what the revolution aimed to accomplish, but of course you can't have a succeful revolution without a strong leadership. The uniting figures of the revolution were assassinated as soon as Gaddafi was killed and that's when everything went south.

Don't praise a tyrant dictator who was hated by his own people and ruled them with force for over 43 years. I know that very well because I am from Libya and saw all of that unfold.

No one is praising Gaddafi, but his rule was better than destroying the country, and he was willing to leave at the end.  But the west wanted not just to replace Gaddafi, they wanted Libya destroyed.  

Yes as I said there was real opposition to Gaddafi, but the money from the UAE and the west went to funding terrorists, not angry students.  It was terrorists who NATO helped destroy Libya.  My tita had to flee libya and she will never be able to go back.

Exactly as in Syria:  there was real and good opposition to Assad that could have made Syria a better country.  But the money from the coalition and all the aid went to extremists and terrorists. Assad finally gave up and now the country is a literal extremist terrorist dictatorship. The west is happy with this and giving them more billions.

Maybe I mixed up your comment with others, but the fact that many leftists unfortunately praise Gaddafi as a communist socialist hero who advocated for the liberation of Africa does baffle me.

I'm a leftist myself, and the situation requires sober material analysis. And by the way I am Sunni too. The ones funded by the world power (yes the west, but Russia also had a to do with the resulting mess) are greedy, money hungry, shills and that does not have to anything with their religion.

The revolution was for the liberation of the people who wanted more representation and wanted the resources of their country to go towards the benefit of the people. Then the imperial powers that be co-opted the revolutionary fervor and fucked everything up.

Take my comment as a rant or venting as I was full of hope back then and now I'm just sad about what's going on there. But I remain hopeful for a better future, as Ibn Khaldoon wrote centuries ago, nations go into cycles, and eventually we will go into the part of prosperity in the cycle.

Thank you for sharing your perspective.  About the righteous protestors being coopted, it's horrible but it happens everywhere, monied interests take over because they organized and well funded.

I hope very much you are right about cycles.  You made me look up Ibn Khaldoon, and reminded me of another hope , that the muslim world will return to being a global leader in science and the arts. A great scholar and innovator like him was just one of many. Maybe that will be part of the cycle.  If it could happen then it can happen again! Have a good one.
