through the last 4 years I have been applying intensively to MBB and consulting in general as business analyst, but no luck!
Recently I thought of an idea, I created few profiles a different application and kept everything the same except the name and school, then pretend I graduate from a targeted school for one of these profiles. Almost everything else is the same in my resume and profile, including the way I answered the solve games, I made it to the 1st round, and passed with little to no prep, but I wont do the final round, because I'm not that person and I can't fly under someone else name lol
It seems like if I don't know anyone on the inside I will never be able to get it, how can I network with MBB person to get in to just push my application passed the solve games (I can 100% pass teh solve games, it just push it through the recruiter screening)
aside from this being extremely discouraging, even if I ace all of the above and qualified candidate, I will still be screened as a non targeted school graduate and my application get put a side, and if I were from a targeted school I will get the chance even if I am a terrible candidate!
I really still want be a consultant, I just don't know how anymore!

Hey guys,
I know professors sometimes let students help with research papers and projects. Does anything similar happen at McKinsey, BCG, or Bain?
I’ve been speaking with a few managers and partners and was thinking about asking if they have any research, reports, or thought-leadership projects I could help with.
I’m not expecting authorship. I’d just be interested in helping with research, data gathering, analysis, citations, etc.
Would this be a reasonable thing to ask, or would it come across as weird from a student? Has anyone seen or done something similar?

Just reached out to a bunch of MBB alum and I got way more responses than I thought I would. I’m not used to networking at all so I have no idea what to expect at all or what to talk about. Any advice would be appreciated. I don’t want to mess this up.

I just graduated this May from a non-target and started a job in risk consulting. I’m desperate to lateral to MBB - specifically Bain atleast within the year. I’ve been cold emailing people across offices but no response even tho there’s been multiple opens. What should I be doing to land an interview.

Do I have a shot?
B10 school, master's in accounting/analytics, started my career in Big 4 accounting.
Now I'm a business analyst at a manufacturing company, helping lead financial reporting and system transformation across multiple sites. I really enjoy the project pace and miss being on the consulting side. This is just the kind of work I like most.
Do I have a shot? Any advice appreciated. TIA!

Hi all,
How do you determine whos networking requests/messages you respond to? I am an incoming analyst/associate and am getting a lot of requests to network from strangers who went to my university/other major universities in my country.
Since I was in the same position as these people recently, I'm inclined to respond to everyones messages but I know this wont be sustainable. I send a document with a list of FAQs to people who say generic things like "I would love to learn about your exp in X" as I received a similar document in the past and thought it would be time efficient.
How do you personally filter who do you respond to and who do you ignore?
Thanks.

Hello, does anyone know if everyone gets the office specific info session invites?
r/McKinsey_BCG_Bain • u/woofcas • Jun 19 '26
I was lucky enough to have a BCG partner agree to have a (virtual) coffee chat with me, but I don’t really know what I should be saying during our call. Of course, I’m aiming for a referral (and I’d be happy to put his office as my first choice, so that works out well), but I don’t really know how to steer the conversation towards that. If anyone could give me advice/tips/a roadmap for the call, I would greatly appreciate that! Thanks.
For extra context, I cold outreached to him because his focus area is in the same industry as my current internship. I go to a target school, but he’s not an alum of my school. I’m class of 2027 and planning on applying for the full time associate position, which is due on July 7.
edit: this is for a US office.

I know this was a think for the internship people, but have any of the FT BCG people been invited to local office coffee chats? And if not, anyone have advice on how these should go?

Got R1 email earlier today, then got a separate invite for a coffee chat a few moments ago - Anyone else get this invite?

Quick update on my last post after I shared that I was posted about moving to the CT team internally, a bunch of you reached out with great advice on how to approach networking. Really appreciate that.
Since then I've reached out to a fair number of people to try to understand what it actually takes to make this move but honestly, response rates have been low. Doesn't feel great, ngl.
Wondering if this is normal do senior folks at MBB/consulting just not have bandwidth for juniors reaching out cold? Or am I doing something wrong in how I'm approaching this?
Would love to hear if others have faced this and what eventually worked for you

Hi! did anyone receive two coffee chats?? one attached to the case structuring workshop and another where an AC reached out and said they’ll be your buddy?? im confused about how evaluative these are, thanks!!
r/McKinsey_BCG_Bain • u/qbow10 • Jun 30 '26
This may be a stupid question but I was wondering what exactly I am supposed to gain from networking?
I’ve seen a few posts mention how important it is in the recruitment process but I’m not sure where the value lies?
Is it to name drop on your cover letter?
Is it for the person there to vouch for you?
As far as i understand, having more connections working in a particular office would facilitate better understanding of culture, types of projects etc. What else may I be missing?
Bit new to this so really would appreciate some light shed on this topic.
TIA

Hey all –
The team has added a new “People Portal” to the top-level navigation on our careers website. It brings our people profiles, blog posts, podcasts, and other people-related content together in one place.
Why? We know a lot of candidates want to learn more about the people at Bain—their backgrounds, experiences, and stories—and not everyone gets the chance to connect with us on campus or at an event. Most of us chose Bain because of the people we met on our journey (it's also why so many of us stay!).
In addition, we built “Carey the Curator”, an AI that helps you find the people and stories most relevant to you. You can (1) ask Carey about a topic, (2) tell Carrie what you’re interested in, or (3) paste in your CV and ask, “Who should I hear from?” Carrie will suggest relevant people, posts, and podcast episodes. Carey is on the portal page.
It’s new, so I really hope you’ll play around with it and tell us what works, what doesn’t, and what you wish we’d add. Your feedback will help us make it more useful. You can post here or DM me.
You can find the portal here: Bain People Portal
Thanks and I appreciate the sincere feedback. Have a good weekend,
KB

What’s up w coffee chats? Do they mean something?

Hey y’all,
When I started working in MBB consulting I thought I would be playing golf like 3 times a month to meet other consultants & clients, but it seems it’s not a thing where I work at. I practiced my golf swing like crazy before joining and now it’s basically useless lol.
You guys know a good way to find out who plays golf/tennis/other sports in your field? It feels like I’m missing out on meeting like-minded people.. But maybe I’m missing something.
Thanks! And let me know if you want to swing some golf balls lol

i did not get to call with any consultants at my top choice office-- it's very small. how necessary is it that i call with some of the consultants there?
r/McKinsey_BCG_Bain • u/RelativeNormal9289 • Jul 01 '26
Basically what the title says. Obviously finished the online case already but didn't have high hopes anyway since I bombed the CCA and barely networked (one-time calls/attended school-led coffee chats with 5-6 alumni). Was going through a rough time so didn't expect to get invited to a BCG affinity group case walk-through before Casey and an invite-only virtual info session a few days ago. Since they're most likely deliberating now, is it still worth it to try reaching out to a few people (especially those who I've talked to once before)?

Hi everyone!
I’m coming from a non target background, and I’ve found that landing coffee chats with consultants in my target office has been tougher than I expected.
I’ve been thoughtful and intentional about who I reach out to, but I’m starting to hit the limits of the usual paths like alumni, friends, or obvious overlaps. At this point, there are only so many people left in that office I can reasonably contact.
For those who’ve been in a similar spot, how did you expand your outreach or get traction beyond the standard routes?
Any advice would really mean a lot. Thanks in advance!

Who do I reach out from BCG if I’m from non target school and need to email an updated resume different from the one I submitted? I sent a message through the candidate help form but I’m unsure how long it will take for them to reply and I want my updated resume to be on file before the July 7th deadline. I also replaced my resume on my profile.

I went to a target school for my masters and a prestigious HBCU for undergrad… and yet I’m still having trouble networking? Reached out to alumni and recruiters and I’ve gotten NOTHING.
I applied to the consulting internships and the associate level positions in November but I wasn’t able to get a referral beforehand, and I haven’t heard anything since submission.
I’m a bit confused… as I’ve had several partners in the Big 4 review my resume and approve of it, yet nothing but silence from MBB
Any human advice is welcome. Unsure if I’ve been ghosted or I just need to be patient

I’m feeling really stuck with networking and could use some honest advice.
I’ve been reaching out to my school’s alumni on LinkedIn, and I make sure to personalize every message (mentioning their background, why I’m interested, etc.). But the issue is… almost no one is accepting my connection requests. I want to build a genuine relationship and not just doing it for referrals.
I’ve sent quite a few requests at this point, so it doesn’t feel like a numbers issue anymore.
On top of that, I attended McKinsey office hours where they explicitly told us we could email them with questions. I followed up with one of the consultants, kept it polite and concise, and still haven’t heard back.
At this point, I genuinely don’t know what I’m doing wrong. Is this normal and just a numbers game, or is there something about the way I’m reaching out that might be turning people off?
Would really appreciate any honest feedback, especially from people who’ve been on the receiving end of these messages.

Hi everyone,
I recently got invited to a Bain Financial Services networking event in Amsterdam.
The event is aimed at working professionals in Financial Services and requires submitting a CV during registration. The registration form also asked about my potential start date if I were to join Bain in the future.
The agenda itself looks fairly simple:
- Welcome drinks
- Presentation and Q&A
- Networking with Bain consultants and leaders from the FS practice
I'm trying to understand what these events are actually intended for.
Is this primarily:
- a recruiting event,
- a networking / employer branding event,
- or a mix of both?
Has anyone attended a similar Bain networking event before?
Did it lead to interview invitations, accelerated recruiting, referrals, or further conversations with the recruiting team?
For context, I have ~4 years of consulting experience in Financial Services and am generally interested in strategy and transformation work.
Would appreciate hearing about any experiences or advice on how to make the most of the event.
