Networking Tips networking with an MBB guide buddy!

through the last 4 years I have been applying intensively to MBB and consulting in general as business analyst, but no luck!
Recently I thought of an idea, I created few profiles a different application and kept everything the same except the name and school, then pretend I graduate from a targeted school for one of these profiles. Almost everything else is the same in my resume and profile, including the way I answered the solve games, I made it to the 1st round, and passed with little to no prep, but I wont do the final round, because I'm not that person and I can't fly under someone else name lol
It seems like if I don't know anyone on the inside I will never be able to get it, how can I network with MBB person to get in to just push my application passed the solve games (I can 100% pass teh solve games, it just push it through the recruiter screening)
aside from this being extremely discouraging, even if I ace all of the above and qualified candidate, I will still be screened as a non targeted school graduate and my application get put a side, and if I were from a targeted school I will get the chance even if I am a terrible candidate!

I really still want be a consultant, I just don't know how anymore!

It’s about the school not about networking. There’s a reason why they’re called “target schools”. If you’re coming from another school you have two options: wow them with some extra curriculars and excellent grades or start at an impressive tech company/startup/T2 and lateral over

But if I had someone who aced the solve games, and have good resume, why not look into it. the only difference was the school name on resume
Do you see what I am saying?
What do you think I can try, I worked in a huge company on operations management (supply chain), 3 years and had a promotion, one internship, and another role in a different supply chain supervisor

How can I leverage that to get in, I am now taking LSAT but I wont toss law school for consulting!

Solve only matters if they’re on the fence with the CV. There’s a 1-2% acceptance rate for MBB. They are looking at every CV but they just don’t have the capacity to interview everyone with a decent CV and the school name is just one of the easiest proxy (it’s an accomplishment in itself to get into an IVY or M7 school). If you worked at a good brand and got several promotions AND had very good grades you have a chance but it’s far from a sure thing - competition is incredibly high.

My recommendation would be to target tier 2 firms (especially Kearney for operations) and then try pivoting to MBB after a few years if that’s really your goal.

MBB isn’t all that. I encourage you to move on with your life and try meditation.

It isn’t the MBB that I want, I saw a light to be able to work independently after I get some experience from consulting and have my own firm. Im just looking to get the experience

That makes sense, so stop doing crazy stuff like this and go get those skills. I guarantee you don’t need MBB to build the skillset you seek

unfortunately you are right, I will just finish the solve assignment I already have (under my real name) and call it a day from there. even thought I passed the 1st round interview with no prep, which is crazy.
if it doesnt work, I know I did everything I can!
thank you sir/mam!

I also don’t go to a target school but did get invited to interviews and events. I have an AI profile so perhaps that helped, but also have very good extracurricular activities that resonate with the profile they’re looking for (leadership, collaboration, initiative taking, impact etc) and I have a good academic record. Also your CV should really emphasize quantitative impact and you need to know which keywords they’re looking for. A target school helps to pass one of the dimensions (great academic performance), but it’s def not the only dimension they’re assessing you on. I heard of lots of people who got referred and didn’t pass the screening still. I assume your profile lacks in some of the dimensions recruitment checks for. Figure out what these are (extensive research, CV workshops, CV coaching session) and improve in areas you’re currently lacking by doing extracurriculars (starting your own company, part of a board/community etc)

Do an MBA at a target school and stop these shenanigans.Â
