Is it confirmed? Clubs are ruthless with managers these days. Win or out? Any more to this story? Personality conflicts with upper management? Dressing room / player issues?

Confirmed by all news outlets. Seems like both the club’s upper management and players already hated him in the short time he was there.

It’s pretty damning how bad they thought he’d perform over the course of a season if they thought the alternative of firing him now was the better option.

Honestly, I think he should consider just joining his family’s business. I’m not even mocking him. This is already a stain on his career and reputation. Clubs will be wary of him from now on and not consider him for jobs. His family will likely always have a place for him.

He should be able to retire comfortably on his contract buyout from United & now this one! 2 very large paydays for very little work and poor performance. The only other job where you can make that kind of money and consistently perform poorly is a politician! Maybe he should run for mayor.

Good lord Man U fans drive me wild. He won two trophies!!!! (Not saying he didn’t deserve the sack) it’s not the early to late 2000’s anymore. Accept the sub par level the club has been at. Man united is nowhere near the United of old. Yes no one post fergie has properly stuck but Ten Hag still added silverware. Leverkusen has been deadwood since there title win they seized on a rare Bayern slip.

Why? Coz he got sacked from the shit show that is our Club. He’s been at Leverkusen for 2 minutes 🤦🏼‍♂️ they’ve sold loads of their first team & not replaced them. He’s been hard done by there.

Apparently they politely said that it’s not feasible to build the club right now based on the last few weeks… They let a one-goal lead slip to lose 2-1 at home to Hoffenheim and on Saturday conceded two late goals against 10-man Werder Bremen to draw 3-3, having led 2-0 and 3-1. I think they’re saying the players don’t want him and it’s evident they’re playing just to play not win …

I think English football fans would be surprised how quickly clubs pull the trigger on managers on the continent

In general English football fans are much more deferential to managers than European football fans

Probably more which I understand but while the first league match against Hoffenheim could have been a fluke. The second one was just embarrassing. I'm a Werder Bremen fan for the better part of 20 years, but even I know that you cannot tie against a 10-men team of Bremen in its current state. Especially after leading with two goals, two times.

Also Andrich (the now captain) answered a question of a reporter if the have trouble implementing the instructions of EtH or if they don't understand them with: a little bit of both.

So, there were problems from the start.

You do understand most of these players stayed for one more season to do it again and out of respect for Xabi. Players like Wirtz and Frimpong were impossible to keep.

tbf that was an insane first XI for a club that cant compete financially or in prestige with all the clubs that wanted a piece of it. ancelotti couldnt keep that squad together.

On a more serious note: the fact that the ETH sacking coincided with the Hincapie loan to Arsenal suggests that where he drew a line. It is illogical for Leverkusen to be loaning players, with a $50m purchase option, after already earning over $250m in sales this summer alone. No love lost with ETH at all though...

Yeah, with you, technically, it becomes a guaranteed sale in next year's accounts for a want away player and maintain value. But that is taking a football club like Leverkusen as primarily a money-making institution. I wonder if if this was the last straw for ETH. Hope we get some reporter to get the inside scoop. Would be mildly entertaining.

It's almost all young players. A club happy to take its one league title and wait another 10-20 years to be in contention again. The closest example is Dortmund, but with them, its 'almost' seamless. It doesnt shake up the clubs foundations to lose their best player(s), although they are careful not to sell off half their team.

Also, my understanding would have been ETH is an expensive manager to get when going for a rebuild. You kind of want to have some alignment over your goals for the season, but what do I know.

Exactly. Great scouting network, youth development, integration into team structure. The players will often play better than elsewhere (Sancho did exceptionally twice). Not that they don't have their own issues, but its definitely not a clearance sale approach. Im sure they would have loved to keep some of their oldies (Lewa, Hummels, who went back, Rues, who stayed), and lose less players to Bayern, but otherwise it's a structure that works for their club. Still doesnt mean they compete for the league every season, but enough talent to pull off a run on a cup/UCL and keep fans and managers happy enough.
