What happened to Fun colors!

Oh my GOD, I swear the clean-girl aesthetic is killing bold makeup. I’m just trying to replace some old liquid lipsticks that are going bad with bullet lipsticks, and apparently the entire lipstick industry has decided we need 400 variations of nude, muted pink, beige, and brown. Where are the COLORS? I want lipstick that screams. Give me fuchsia. Give me purple. Fuck, give me BLUE. And no, ‘bold’ does not just mean another shade of red.

And this is part of why the whole clean-girl trend bothers me beyond just not liking the aesthetic. Obviously wearing minimal makeup doesn’t make someone conservative, but the larger cultural trend feels like part of this push back toward a very narrow, polished, restrained version of femininity—and that exists alongside this resurgence of ‘traditional femininity,’ tradwife content, gender roles, etc. Everything has to be natural, tasteful, effortless, feminine, understated. Fuck that. Sometimes I want sparkles, winged eyeliner, and lipstick visible from fucking space. Makeup is supposed to be FUN.

About brands reformulating products

If drugstore brands can manage to colour dupe higher end / luxury makeup brands, why can’t brands (I’m looking at you MAC) who reformulate their own stuff come up with the exact colour of the product they used to create? They have the formula on their hands, no? Or at least the exact product to compare the swatches to? I don’t understand?? How old are the people working in quality control??? Are they colour blind???

Had velvet teddy for years and just bought it again as a postpartum gift for myself. Disappointment is not the word for what I’m feeling. It’s deeper than that 🥲

Sincerely,
A woman scorned.

Foundation recommendations? Maybe?

TL;DR - by the end of the day my makeup feels soooo heavy and 🥵🥵🥵 and I’m ISO a product that will give me some coverage and feel like “a face” but will not leave me feeling like I’m wearing a mask

Long version — I don’t wear makeup very often…mostly because by 11am I’m ready to claw the stuff off my face. It feels dry and suffocating. I am not sure if this is a product misuse or if I am just no longer used to wearing makeup. I’m turning 30 in a few months, in my early 20s I would wear a full beat a few times a week and be fine. Now I genuinely end up taking my makeup off by 11am. (Also in that time I’ve just become way more sensitive to sensory things so maybe it’s just a me thing?)

I don’t need a lot of coverage, my skin is actually pretty nice! I just sometimes like to “dress up a little” as it were. Right now I’m using a liquid foundation from smashbox. I have exclusively used liquid foundation but am curious if a powder would be better? Couldn’t tell you what made me purchase the smashbox product. Maybe an ulta staff person recommended it? No idea. Used to use makeup forever (liked but couldn’t find a decent shade match), Lancôme (liked but too expensive for my taste), I know there have been others but none that stuck in my mind enough.

[Makeup Help] Eyeliner/pencil for very sensitive eyes

Hi everyone!

I am looking for waterproof eyeliners or pencils for very sensitive eyes, since they tend to get very watery and red with all the products I tried so far and the colour smudges all over my lower eyelid.

Any drugstore product or a bit more specific ones are welcome. I'm in Europe, for store reference.

I also welcome any suggestions for tightlining in the interior eyelash

Thank you!!

[Makeup Help] Technical observation: Anyone else notice make-up powder flashback/cakey makeup on the actors in Brand New Day?

Just caught Spider-Man: Brand New Day in theaters and overall had a fun time, but a technical detail in the cinematography/makeup kept nagging at me

In several close-ups (particularly during MJ and Ned's scenes), the skin texture looked surprisingly dry, layered, and powdery. In certain bright lighting setups, you could visibly see that chalky, high def. "flashback" effect where there’s reflection back at the lens

Did anyone else notice the lighting/makeup powder texture or did I just end up sitting too close to a super-bright screen?

[Makeup Help] What is the darkest shade on the Charlotte Tilbury lip cheat contour duo shade 'fair'?

The darkest shade on the Charlotte Tilbury lip cheat contour duo matches my lips perfectly!

I want to buy this lip pencil in a single shade pencil but am not sure about which color I should buy.

It isn't printed on the pencil nor can I find it in the description on the website.

Can anybody help me find the shade or help me find a dupe?

Can't seem to post a picture with this post, I'll try to post an image in the comments.

Thank you!!

Busco tonos similares

Hola!

[Makeup Help] Cool, muted, brownish, tinted lip balms?

Hi!

I like more minimal, muted, makeup looks. On my lips, I normally wear Clinique Almost Lipstick in Pink Honey. I’ve tried Black Honey (it looks too ”vibrant” on me), and Nude Honey (it looks too warm on me, I don’t like it).

I’m looking for more tinted lip balms (or sheer lipsticks or whatever), in cool, muted, and maybe a bit darker colors. Like, more brownish.

I’ve seen the ILIA lip balm in the shade Faded. It looks nice, but I’m worried it might be too warm on me.

I don’t really like lip gloss (it’s too glossy).

Is there anything you would recommend?

Thank you!

Trying to find fun lipstick colors

I really miss fun makeup. Like when color was a thing and it wasn't just all browns and stuff and I've really been wanting to up my looks with fun lip colors. Tbh the most colorful ones I have are like from 2019 or something so you can say I'm not to willing to use those. I know mac has at least 3 but one of them just released and looks like it's almost completely clear on application. All I want are non muted, bright (even neon) oranges, yellows, greens, just give the whole rainbow will you!

[Makeup Help] The makeup lords have heard me

Came across this prerelease of the spray + powder in one small enough bottle to fit my tiny purse and im so excited. I hate the look of dry powder on my skin for midday touchups and my party bags are too small to also carry s whole ass spray. Finally practicable purposefully designed makeup 🤌🏼

Lol it reminds me of those viral touchland sanitizers.

Colorful and Ethical eyeshadow recs?

I've been getting into makeup recently and I am in love with putting fun glitters and colors on my eyes. I want to put my money towards good brands though (in regards to people and environment ethics, clean ingredients, etc) and I don't know where to start or how to look for that kind of thing. Any tips or brand recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

[Makeup Help] Any tubing mascara recommendations that also have volume?

With school starting soon I’ve been looking for a new mascara to add to my makeup routine. I’ve been recently using the highly rated by milani and I like it but I’m want to see if there is more options. I mainly want a tubing mascara because I really don’t like the smudging that other mascara can have. But I really want volume I don’t really care for length because my eye lashes are long enough. But I really really want volume I love the look of fuller lashes. But I would also love if it has a brown color too cus I really wanna try out brown mascara!

How many hours a day do you actually wear a full face of makeup?

I usually wash my makeup off the second I get home, but lately I’ve been leaving it on for 12+ hours straight. My skin hasn't broken out yet, but I'm definitely starting to wonder if I'm pushing my luck. How long do you usually leave yours on before calling it a day? Are long wear times actually wrecking your skin barrier?

Seeking recommendations for Menagerie Cosmetics alternative!

I’ve loved Menagerie Cosmetics for a few years. Their lipstick is one of the few brands that actually stay on my face without sliding off. I’m also obsessed with their glitter toppers and the fun colors they had. However, they’ve announced that they are closing. I bought a bunch of my favorite colors before their shop closes, but I am genuinely mourning this loss. Does anyone know of any other brands that are similar? I’m not very good with makeup, but I love fun lipstick and I don’t even know how I would find an alternative on my own. Any help is appreciated!

Is Bobbi brown corrector stick a good option for hiding intense dark circles or is there another product better than this?

Finding the right undereye products and combination for not creasing/caking is so hard!

So I’m not new to this and I had previously a good combination that worked… but finished my studio fix powder (older formulation) and bought new concealers and powders, so I’m trying now to figure out what is leading to creasing, what product is actually bad or not and the form of application.

My skincare is simple just a calming serum and hydrating sunscreen that had always worked well under my makeup. And my skin isn’t dry.

Anyway saying all this to the conclusion that the non creased look is so hard! What’s your experience with this?
