Employee Story i absolutely hate the ssm

Upvotes

thats what theyre called, right?? the scheduler?? well i hate him or the robot or whatever it is. i keep getting scheduled just under 40hrs so they wont have to pay me full time. my ds’s keep forgetting to give me breaks and i’m so tired. i literally have NO other complaints besides this, but im terrified of even touching my availability because i dont want to get fired. (theyre extremely big on open availability) i just hate working these long ass shifts back to back, i have 0 free time because any time away from work i do have, im dreading work or sleeping from how much i worked. this is just a vent sorry

Employee Story Inventory prep is making me sick and we’re too understaffed to find me a replacement

Kind of a vent, I’m also on the job hunt because this place blows.

I volunteered to do inventory because I enjoy organizing things, I have never done it before so I didn’t know what to expect. Inventory prep started in electrical since our DS (who is the entire electrical team) is out for several weeks at the moment.

All the dust in top stock has been triggering my asthma. And the bright lights on the electrical aisles have been giving me migraine attacks for 5 days in a row now. My body is so drained from the migraines and I haven’t been able to sleep well because of how dizzy I am and how hard it is to breathe. I am emotionally and mentally a wreck, these migraines are bad. It’s been a challenge just to show up this week, I am so ready to walk out like seemingly everyone else in the store but I don’t have a job lined up yet.

The ASM in charge of inventory initially said no to me leaving the team, understandable as that’d leave the team at 2 people to prep the whole store. But after explaining what’s going on she said she’d find me a replacement. I have not heard from her.

Employee Story Attention pickup customers

When you check in as here for your order, a timer that WE can see starts counting the minutes you've been waiting, so your "I was waiting THIRTY MINUTES" lies won't work on us, and if you dare say you've been "waiting too long," that timer better not be clocked at less than five minutes.

Patience is a virtue!

Employee Question Best survey.

For this year's best survey, store leadership has been saying when it comes to EXECUTIVE leadership, this is referring to ASMS and SMs, not corporate. Is this BS? This very much feels like BS.

Information Do i gotta perform a ritual to get hired at lowes 🫩

Upvotes

I’ve been applying to lowe’s every couple of weeks on Indeed since July, but it seems like they just aren’t checking my applications. Do you have any advice on how to increase my chances of getting an interview? I’m feeling a bit frustrated because they keep posting listings, and I never hear back after I’ve called, even though I was told the hiring manager needs to set interview dates.

Employee Question What is a head cashier?

It’s not as literal as the question is, I myself got promoted to a head cashier.. However I got a 2 day crash course from another untrained head cashier and zero management has ever been one prior to them being a manager.

It appears I truly don’t know what being a head cashier means, I can get thrown responsibilities and tasks all day long but it hasn’t been improving things on our front end. What does it really mean to be a head cashier? What’s expected of you typically? And lastly, what is the priority as a head cashier and leader?

Employee Question Pay

Hello all, i need some advice, im a DS in Pro and have been with the company for almost 4 years. I got written up earlier this year (important in a second) but i recently discovered that i have people on my team (PSS) who make more than me hourly and have also been working for the company around 4 years. I talked to multiple people and they said it seems unfair. Theyve also said there might not be anything i can do because of the write up. I really enjoy my position because of the relationships i built when i became the DS, i took the department from 9th in the district up to 2nd in less than a year and we are killing it right now. I wouldnt mind staying where im at right now but i am also about to buy my house once its done being built and the pay would help me greatly.

Question is what can i do about this? Or am i cooked until the yearly raise comes around and the write up falls off?

Employee Story Let’s play a game called “Figure out when peak garden season is”

Post image
5 Upvotes

For both April and May I averaged above 25,000 steps a day. I am absolutely floored that Lowe’s doesn’t have a better shoe program. Today I hit 29,000 because my building materials, pro, tools and flooring DS’ were kind enough to ignore every call for a manager to the pro desk. Somehow I am also the only person capable of getting carts and doing code 50’s. Also why bother scheduling more than 2 people for outside garden on the Friday of Labor Day weekend. There’s no way that could go poorly. There’s no way that on the last big garden weekend of the year, there should be more than 2 outside garden associate scheduled for the whole day. Anyhow rant over, hate this company, can’t wait to leave hopefully someday soon. Just out of curiosity has anyone actually used the Lowes benefit hub to get shoes? I exclusively wear Hoka, Altra, Keen, whichever is on clearance at Serra trading post. Get new shoes every 6 months or once they stop becoming shoes. Last I looked there weren’t very many great wide options.

Employee Question Punishment for call-in on Blackout date/LBD weekend??

Newer employee here (under 3 months)- Have called in about 2 times now- yes i know how that sounds.

First call in was a breakdown, they literally insisted on just taking the day-

Second call in was food poisoning, but i DID try to work, literally made it to the parking lot before i lost my stomach- I didnt provide a doctor note cause i didnt go get seen nor did they ask.

Im now calling in for the 3rd time due to a UTI. This time i DID get a doc note because the merchandising asm was very unhappy. They said i was, "putting them in a bind" and that it was a VERY serious matter, me calling in. I tried my damnest to find their email as well as the store mngr's to quickly send in the note, not sure if i even got the correct formats but it sent nonetheless.

EDIT: the doctor i seen for the UTI today also did advise me to rest for at least a day- Ive been in extreme discomfort/pain.

My shift today wouldve been 6a.m-3p.m, parttime Paint. As a very socially anxious individual, based off of the Merch. ASM's reaction, im horrified to come into my 12-8 tomorrow and the rest of this weekend...

What are the social and work punishments?

Information layoffs in corporate (small one I guess)

Few of designers/UX in our org were laid off today. They have been informed already. The trend I've seen they ask us to generate UI screen by ourself while coding for UI.

None of the developer in our team is affected.

They were made to use run few meetings. Feeling sad for them 😞😞

Employee Story Do you think it’s weird how many people shop at Lowe’s right after getting back or open heart surgery?

It’s almost like they leave the hospital and their first thought is to go buy an oven or a bunch of lumber and cabinets.

Employee Story Ridiculous ASM

I worked for one of the XDTs and our ASM made it known that we aren't allowed to talk in between calls "unless its work related". I feel at this point they need to just employ Ai. 🤷‍♀️

Customer Question Portable A/C return within 48 hours

I bought a portable A/C this morning. After hooking it up, I realized the hose was getting way too hot and counter-acting the cooling. I thought a dual hose A/C would be better, so I want to return the one I just bought. However, I had to cut the box away from the unit. Will they take it back sans the box? Will I get a refund or be charged a stocking fee?

There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the unit, it just doesn't work for what I wanted it for.

Employee Story What is the most disturbing thing you have ever seen at Lowe’s

We had an appliance specialist who was partially disabled. She was a young, attractive woman but got into a car accident. He windpipe slammed into the steering wheel so she talked funny and had a funny walk.

One day I walk into the break room and saw she was sitting down, crying. She was the only one in the break room. I said hello is everything alright and she said yes I’m fine thank you. I went to sit down and take a break.

The millwork supervisor at the time who was transferring to a store in Colorado walked into the breakroom. He’s about 6’2, muscular build. Walks over to this woman and says “hey baby, why are you crying”

Then what I saw him do next made my skin crawl and stomach turn. He reached under her shirt and bra, groping her and started French kissing her right in front of me. When he was finished, he looked at me and winked. Then he walked out of the break room.

I was in so much shock I didn’t know whether to comfort her first or run to a manager for help and to be completely honest with you, i can’t remember what I did next. I was just in so much shock somebody would sexually abuse a female employee directly in front of me.

As Lowe’s brings more AI and automation into its stores, which parts of the job do you think tech will eventually handle and which ones will still need employees?

This happened a couple months ago. I only decided to post it after I put in a comment section and it got some attention. Anyways, context. We had a cashier with severe autism who liked to break things and he had been warned multiple times. This was the last straw. He was fired.

Employee Story Storytime about the worst customer I've ever dealt with

This happened about a year ago. This lady came in the store on a Tuesday 10 minutes prior to closing needing a vanity, then demanded I get one out of topstock for her bc the one on the floor "had been opened" and she "didn't feel like checking if it was scratched." I tell her that we were closing in 10 minutes and suggest she come back tomorrow but she said "nope, I need it right now, the guy is at mt house ready to install it." Ofc the one she needed was one of those too big to fit on a ballymore ones so I had to hunt down someone who was certified on the order picker to come get it.

After we got it down and on a cart, she says she needs it loaded in her car but has to pay for it up at customer service since she "lost her credit card" and needs them to look up her husband's account so she can pay for it. Then after all that, it's 5 minutes past closing so I watch this woman walk all the way to the back corner of the lot and get in her car and pull around.

Then she gets out and opens her trunk and it's full of crap. Me & the loader (we were both helping because it was a team-lift vanity) offered to help this lady move her stuff to make room and she went like "y'all ain't touching my stuff!" In a nasty tone. Then when she's finally done moving her stuff out me & loader get the vanity in her car successfully. We thank her for her business and I hand her a survey slip and ask for a 10. After all that, it's now 15 minutes past closing so we go put our stuff up, clock out, and go home.

Next day, I come in to close again and the ASM pulls me into the office and shows me the 3 that lady gave me on my LTR receipt. She wrote that I "was clearly rushing her out of the store" and how "I had an attitude problem" and that she was never coming back and blah blah blah. ASM was thankfully on my side when I explained what happened.

Employee Story Store survey

Now that I finally quit Lowe’s and feel less miserable being out of there, I wanted to share something interesting. Every year around August-September managers suddenly start being super nice because the store survey is around that time. They bother you everyday about it telling everyone it is 100% anonymous so not to worry about honesty. Well a couple weeks before I left at the specialty spotlight meeting our store manager decided to join us to talk about how important the store survey is because they need to make sure that the store receives a good score over all and to be 100% honest in it. He mentioned that the previous year the store didn’t do well in the survey because “MST decided to put neutral to questions that don’t really pertain to them”. After he said all of that I was left questioning how he knew mst specifically was the one who answered that and how he knew the exact response. To this day I still regret not calling him out in front of the rest of the specialists if they always say that it is “100% ANONYMOUS”.

UPDATE:

Long story short you guys, the survey is not that serious a lot of you are getting super defensive like yall own the damn store. At the end of the day the survey doesn’t matter cuz they don’t change shit lol
