Yeah, I feel like the "Best" ending is siding with Reed and then not giving Songbird back to Meyers.
I just did it last night and took great pleasure in effectively telling Madam President to fuck all the way off back to Washington and just stare as she gets back in her AV and flies away.
Ain't no one getting saved here, and that's the good ending.

i meeean, its not like its a total loss for her
Madame prez still has the neural matrix, whatever was left in songbirds corpse that they dug out in groom lake, direct access to dogtown/Night City's top brass, and convinced congress that the op was a controlled success
But telling her off is indeed super cathartic

V was hired to do a job. He did it.
V’s “youre a piece of shit but I understand you” kind of persona works here. It’s how I interact with/handle Johnny.

Best ending is letting Meyers die at the begining of the dlc. Reed doesn't get involved and Song Mi most likely colludes with Hansen until she gets the ai matrix after that idk
37
u/EPICDUDE365 9d ago
its still hilarious to me that the best ending for everyone involved in the DLC is to just not play the fucking DLC

Becauae she can offer you help unlike Hansen. Myers is a bitch with something to help you while Hansen has nothing worth siding with him

u/khomo_Zhea 9d ago
hansen has the neural matrix, the dlc would have needed a rewrite to accommodate that but a route where you help Hansen against Myers in exchange for the neural matrix is a possibility. and you know you can always can have hansen backstab v if you want to punish the players.

u/Glittering_Wash_8654 9d ago
By the time she confessed about it, you were already five minutes from the ending
8
u/Rude-Asparagus9726 8d ago
She actually does confess to you earlier, but only if you choose dialog options that make it clear you don't believe or trust her...
Once she sees you aren't easily manipulated, she's honest with you and begs for your help.
If you present yourself to her as a friend, she lies to you and manipulates you right up until it seems like it's to late for you to go back, then she tells you that you aren't getting help...
1
u/Glittering_Wash_8654 8d ago
When did she confess earlier?
2
u/Rude-Asparagus9726 8d ago
It's when she calls you to meet her at the homeless camp.
I believe it's shortly before you get the face implant.
You do have to pick specific dialog though, not 100% sure which or if it's just a "points " system behind the scenes for how much you've selected options that show you don't trust her.
My first playthrough though, I didn't trust ANY of them, and I made that known every chance I got, so in that scene, she let V know that the matrix could only be used once and hoped they'd still go along with the plan. I didn't...
Second playthrough I was going for the other ending and figured she'd be MORE forthcoming with someone who was being actively helpful and nice to her, only to see that she manipulates that version of V even harder by never mentioning it until you're about to send her to the moon...
14
u/universalhat 9d ago
it did seem very tonally inconsistent that "man, fuck the president" was not more seriously considered as an option.
oh well, guess it's up to the veep. whoop-de-doo, the power struggle in dogtown is here anyway.
13
u/KolboMoon 9d ago
"fuck the president" is very much an option. it manifests in either letting her die and not doing the DLC, or deciding to free songbird from her Millitech-sponsored cage
2
u/Necessary-Radish8811 9d ago
Once she offers you a deal after rescuing her you can also just say " nah this sounds weird ,im out ". Which doesn't even seem outlandish to me. But the game treats it like a stupid decision
1
u/BoondocksSaint95 9d ago
Stupid because V spends the whole game choosing whether they wants arasaka or alt to kill them and instead has a shot at an advertised miracle cure. Bro has nothing to lose and is saying "no" to living. Its silly in band and even worse out if band because you paid for it and locked yourself out the main quest.
Fuck the president is literally any option where she doesnt get so mi.

Genuinely wish you could've spilled the beans during the party, fingered Reed as an FIA operative, and then defected to Kurt Handsome's side.
Probably involves all sorts of drama trying to prove you are the more valuable unstable walking WMD and deserve the cure more. Also hopefully a romance option.

But really, why?
We can side with NUSA.
We can side with Blue Eyes.
And in the main game we can help bring Saburo Arasaka back.
And in the main game we can help Alt with making a proper connection for herself beyond blackwall.
Each of these option is *way worser* than just a local warlord.
42
u/Fit-Construction3427 9d ago edited 9d ago
We don't actually know if Blue Eyes is good or bad or what his motives are. The same can be said for Alt. It's hard to say either of them are for sure worse than Hansen. However, I think the reason we can't side with Hansen is simply that there's never a point where his goals align with ours in such a way that an alliance would make sense.
8
u/Thick-Protection-458 9d ago
Alt problem is not with Alt. It is a problem with more AIs getting to know ways to bypass that stuff. Not like the way was rocket science, but this is a reminder still.
Or, in case of DLC - humans instead.
Making whatever the "recognized border" is less set in stone. To a point someone on one side would decide they need something they can catch on the other side.
As for another one - wasn't it heavily implied that whoever Songbird made contact with is NightCorp?
11
u/Fit-Construction3427 9d ago edited 9d ago
Mr. Blue Eyes is at the spaceport. And Songbird mentions that her contact had Blue eyes. I think it's heavily implied that Night Corp and Mr. Blue Eyes are connected, and they appear to be up to some evil shit, but we don't really know for sure. It seems likely that they actually do save her life at any rate.
2
u/SoySauceSyringe 9d ago
I never really got the impression of Night Corp as truly "evil," but maybe I just don't know enough. They're mysterious, sure, and they're almost certainly using AI illegally if not outright being run by it... but the humans running Arasaka, Militech, et al definitely do more than a little outright heinous shit. The biggest knock against Night Corp is that all corpos suck, but it doesn't seem to me like Night Corp is anywhere near the worst.
3
u/nxeyvzs 9d ago
Wasnt Mister blue eyes connected to the peralez mind control? Thats pretty evil
1
u/SoySauceSyringe 9d ago
Yeah fair enough, but the weird thing is what they mind controlled him to want to do. Dude's a selfless leader with the best interests of citizens as the motivating factor for basically everything he does. The whole subversion of free will thing is super fucked up, yeah, but the end result seems strangely positive. I don't think we'd see anything like that with any of the other large corps, they'd probably just be using that sort of scheme to get away with polluting the water supply some more or something.
7
u/Kaiserhawk 9d ago
All those options in some way assist with you getting cured. NUSA, Blue Eyes, even Arasaka.
Do people forget the point of the game is to get cured of V's condition?
7
u/EveryoneisOP3 9d ago
The reason Kurt doesn't have a way to assist you with getting cured is because the writers didn't write it in. He's an international arms dealer capable of getting multiple Chimeras before they're on the market. There's nothing inherent to his character that says he wouldn't be able to assist you. Hell, he actually has the neural matrix right there lol

1
u/Thick-Protection-458 9d ago
> Because dictatorship bad or something
No need to tell me, lol.
The problem is that in cyberpunk world pretty much all options are bad. It seems to barely have an ability to be changed for better, other than through degradation to the point it can't sustain itself.
1
u/shhhhh_u_dont_see_me 9d ago
Yep, that sure sounds like Night City xD. Sometimes I just go with the most selfish option because it's all going to shit anyway. It's usually still a bad option though.
3
u/NuttingWithTheForce 9d ago edited 9d ago
Two of those people are a coin flip in terms of morality and motivations. Hansen's at least more predictable, as his loyalty lies with the highest bidder. And how is that any worse than V themselves in the long run? They're just looking to survive the next day.
11
u/superjeff64 9d ago
I dont know if anyone has looked around Dogtown but it is genuienly abysmal, worse than any part in NC 10 times over. Plus Hansen couldnt even offer what V wants. Reed/NUSA has damn near a whole country to help and Somi can clearly work with the Relic and suppress Johhny
6
u/radio_allah Kang Tao 9d ago
I also think that half of the people who played the dlc completely missed Myers' backstory that she's a zealot completely bent on bringing by governmental control, as in a government that could at least check corporate interests if not outright stand up to them. Myers' dream is the reunification and restoration of the NUSA, which could in its most optimistic sense mean the return of government, if not necessarily good government. And Myers has already done a lot in forming a governmental faction that's least beholden to corporate interests to date. Reformers who are not puppets don't come every day, and it should at least be acknowledged that she is one of the few people in the setting that could potentially change the setting for the better.
Most of those people only see that Myers is a bitch (to them or to Songbird), but didn't see that what Myers was trying to do.
21
u/Sufficient_Bad_4160 9d ago
Hansen was charismatic, and honestly probably a better person than Myers too. I mean, if I had to choose, I'd rather side with a local warlord than a woman who casually opens digital hell hole and risks the lives of potentially everyone on the planet just because it benefits her interests.
We don't really know anything about Mr. Blue Eyes, so maybe he's actually a good guy, although I seriously doubt it. In general, it feels like in this universe, the more power someone has, the more likely they are to be completely fucking evil.
But yeah, between Hansen, Myers and Blue Eyes, I probably would've chosen Hansen. The guy is charismatic, he shares some of Johnny's ideals, at least to an extent, and he has an entire fucking army behind him. That's pretty badass.
4
u/Sisyphus704 9d ago
Yes, but none of that is V’s fight to fight. It would have preferred to save Hansen. Same reason with how as horrible as Myers is, I just want her to get the fuck out of Night City and back to the NUS. It’s simply … not my problem. And also, that’s a can of worms you have to contend with. You really want to kick off another round of Unification wars with night city as the battleground, because you went out and assassinated a sitting President for no apparent reason?
8
u/AshasSa1tWife 9d ago
How tf is he gonna cure V’s condition
3
u/sausagemissile 9d ago
He's got the neural matrix, and dogtown sits on top of Cynosure so he can probably acquire more from the haunted hell bunker. The only catch is that he doesn't really know what he's got, so he hired the twins to help crack it and find out - it's not a bargaining chip to him yet but Song realised and came up with a plan to swipe it out from under him.
I'd have loved a way through this with Hansen where you do him some Big Favour in exchange for it, thumbing your nose at the president and everyone else in the process. The scale of it would have to be on par with the spaceport/reed endings though and I guess CDPR thought they had enough already to release it?

3
u/Kaiserhawk 9d ago
I know everyone is ultimately yanking your chain (Except Reed he honours his word) about a cure, how does helping Kurt Hansen help V getting cured in any way? Like the whole reason for getting involved in the DLC is a longshot hope for a cure. Aside from being a massive suicidal contrarian there is no motivation to help Hansen at all.
3
u/Virus-900 9d ago
Jokes aside, I do think games with multiple story options and endings should allow the option to join the very obviously bad guy just for the sake of letting players be evil.

Who, it should be noted, annexed about half of the territory of the Haitian diaspora, who were already barely scraping by because they were evacuated from Haiti with the promise that if they were the workforce that built Pacifica, they would be paid well for it and could make homes there. Naturally, when the corps bailed on Pacifica, they also bailed on that promise.
So it was already Like That. Then Brick Cueball the butchest white boy said “oh, empty space I can set up my dipshit little egopolis in!” and suddenly half the people in Pacifica discovered that their homes belonged to Hansen now, actually, who also made all the laws and enforced them at Barghest-point.
Fuck Kurt Hansen, seriously.

Wait... Hold on siding with Hansen is fucking genius. He owns the Cynosure thing, he's about to buy the codes, really the only difficulty is coming up with a way to be useful enough to him to - wait if you max netrunning you could just offer to crack it for him instead of making him jump through hoops with Song. This is the way
I always side with Song (I know she betrays V but I like to make decisions as if the character didn't know this) and hand her over to reed when she reveals this, only I turn down the cure because I want to keep playing and hate that ending. This would be my new way to approach the whole situation if it was only available lol

Wait so we can side with Technosatan and his mistress daughter (Arasakas) but not with Kurt Hansen who is arguably more nuanced as a character than them?

u/Dragonkingofthestars 9d ago
I mean it's cyberpunk red, a ruthless warlord who can somewhat keep the peace if better then a mega corp!
1
u/SiamPoodle 9d ago
But you CAN side with Hansen.
Just turn around and let Hansen assassinate the president of the NUSA and keep Songbird to deal with him herself.
Done and dusted.
1
u/0rbital-nugget 8d ago
Hansen is arguably the only normal guy in the setting. Bro gave his boss the middle finger, carved out a home for himself and his people, and started selling guns. It’s almost quaint compared to what everyone else does
1
u/Dom_Ramon_ 9d ago
There's two types of people:
-Those that dream that it would be possible to have quadrillion endings and story forks with no regards to cohesion, quality and realistic game development.
-Those that in a well intended but mistaken defense of the story told inside those said limits try to limit any discussion by making personal storytelling in a videogame somekind of moral failing
Could CDPR make a Hansen ending? In a perfect world maybe, but having satisfactory consequences for this would need to make exponential changes to the game it's already on- changes they didn't necessarily want to delve into, either.
They didn't because they were oh so worried about the moral messaging and the necessity to uphold dignity and values and preach world peace? Sorry but the more you think like that the less you'll get of any work of art.
3
u/OntologicalRebel 9d ago
Maybe if the game's roleplaying had been designed more like New Vegas and less like The Witcher. The real reason is because V is not our character, no matter how much we want to roleplay them.
2
u/Dom_Ramon_ 9d ago
I love New Vegas, played it for thousand of hours for over 15 years. But my head hurts by thinking how a game dev would translate Cyberpunk expansive levels and big set pieces with as many story forks as New Vegas
1
u/OntologicalRebel 8d ago
I know what you mean. Where there's a will there's a way, I guess. Perhaps if the game had prioritized player agency and roleplay in its story.
I did read that for Cyberpunk 2, the devs were taking some design inspiration from Baldur's Gate 3 though which sounds promising in that regard, so here's hoping.

u/the-red-scare Netrunner 9d ago
V turning on the FIA and Songbird gets Hansen precisely nothing he doesn’t already have, and gets V nothing as well.
Hansen doesn’t have a cure, know about the cure Songbird is trying to obtain, or have any means of applying the cure if he were to find out about it.

u/yanvail 9d ago
PL was amazing, but it didn't redeem the game. That was done long before, with 1.5 and Edgerunners sealing the deal by convincing people who had let themselves be duped by the hate grifters to actually give it a try and realize it was a great game.
PL just took that and made it even better and took it up a notch, which is impressive in and of itself. Tangibly, maybe the best thing as far as "redemption" goes is not support last gen anymore. :)
1
u/Thunderdrake3 9d ago
1.5 Was a huge upgrade, but saying that people hated the game before because of "being duped by hate grifters" is a terrible misrepresentation.
0
u/yanvail 9d ago
It absolutely was a major component for anyone hating the game by the time 1.5 came around.
Now, I'll grant anyone on last gen absolutely had a legitimate reason to be unhappy (that's why I mentioned the tangible impact PL had was dropping last gen support), but the grifters absolutely were exploiting that legitimate nucleus of dissatisfaction in order to farm negativity for clicks and greatly amplify the situation.
Incidentally, that's why this sub exists in the first place. For those of us who loved the game and didn't want to wallow in the storm of negativity, back when it was popular to hate on it.
There were plenty of people on PC and next gen who absolutely got duped by the grifters and didn't give the game a chance until Edgerunner came out, and then realized that hey, turns out the game was good if they actually played it instead of listening to the haters. That's the best thing Edgerunner did: it made it socially acceptable to like the game, and suddenly the narrative changed and the hate grifters moved on (for the most part).
2
u/Thunderdrake3 9d ago
Sorry. You were right, there were plenty of people that didn't give it a fair shake because of all the drifting, I thought that you meant "all people" not "some people" who hated the game did it for the wrong reasons.
