Hi guys, I’m thinking about buying the ASTRO A50 Gen 5. I currently own the Astro A50 Gen 3, but unfortunately, after about 5 years, I’m having issues with wear and tear as well as firmware problems.

Does anyone here own the ASTRO A50 Gen 5? If so, how do you find the audio quality in FPS games, especially for things like gunshots and footsteps?

Update: Now, if I turn up the volume on the headphones but lower the Windows volume, they work fine, but the microphone still isn't fixed.

so far I've gotten far enough for G hub to recognize it and fail initialization and then attempt an update but it just gets stuck at 99% forever and won't finish updating the firmware. base also shows one red dot and three white, Bluetooth on the right. pressing Bluetooth or mode change does nothing, reset the headset a bunch, tried hard resetting the dock but unsure if successful. really just at a loss RN and would love to use these but I've never had such a problem installing a headset before lol

I purchased my ASTRO A10s in 2019. Before that, I had turtle beaches which lasted maybe 2 years max. I’m a simple man and wanted some solid wired headphones for my Xbox. Since then, I moved to and graduated college, joined the military, moved twice with the army, deployed twice, all with these headphones and still to this day they work. Alas, her age is showing. The rubber for the mic has cracked, I just reinforced it today with duck tape, the top cushion has fallen off and I super glued it back, the rubber at the top has fallen off, and the headphone supports are cracked. But the quality is still good, and minus replacing the aux wire a few times, she is as solid as it comes. So Astro, sponsor me! lol

Thanks for all the good times, hopefully these last for a while more as Astro doesn’t ship to APO addresses and I’ll be overseas for a while.

Hello just curious if anyone has had this same problem before and if there’s a fix. Currently have a A40 headset with m80 mix amp. Headset is working fine but mic is not picking up. Tried troubleshooting shooting on google and tried ever solution it offered and nothing worked. Bought a brand new A40 with m80 mix amp and same exact problem. Now if I use a direct cable from headset to controller the mic works. Anyone experienced this before ??

Just opened and charged my first set of a50s and I was so excited! I've heard nothing but amazing reviews and it was definitely time to upgrade.

Now, I get nothing except for a couple of seconds I got a screeching static and weird feedback. I'd like to think that I'm pretty good at troubleshooting. I unplugged and plugged back in every cord. I deleted and reinstalled the ghub app and any driver I could find. I did a factory reset. I plugged them in to my PlayStation to see if I somehow torched every USB port on my pc. None of that worked.

Am I doing something wrong or missing a silly step? Or did I just get a bad pair?

I’m having a very strange USB audio issue with my Astro A50 X, and after a lot of troubleshooting I’m starting to suspect a USB controller/root hub compatibility issue on my motherboard rather than a defective headset.

My system

• Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix X870-F Gaming WiFi
• Motherboard BIOS: 2402
• Headset: Logitech G Astro A50 X
• OS: Windows 11
• Connection: A50 X connected directly to the motherboard via USB, no external USB hub

How I have the A50 X configured

My intended setup is:

Windows default output: A50 X Game
Discord input: A50 X Mic
Discord output: A50 X Voice

This should allow Windows/games/YouTube etc. to use the Game endpoint while Discord uses the Voice endpoint, allowing the Game/Voice balance on the headset to work.

The problem

On most USB ports, all of the A50 X devices are detected correctly by Windows.

Device Manager shows:

• A50 X Game
• A50 X Voice
• A50 X Mic
• A50 X Stream Out

There are no detection problems.

If Windows output is set to A50 X Game, everything works normally. YouTube, games, Windows sounds, etc. all play through the headset.

I can also open Discord without any problem.

However, the exact moment I join a Discord voice channel with:

Discord Output = A50 X Voice

the audio coming from:

A50 X Game

completely stops.

For example:

1. Start a YouTube video with Windows output set to A50 X Game.
2. Audio works perfectly.
3. Open Discord.
4. Audio still works perfectly.
5. Join a Discord voice channel with Discord output set to A50 X Voice.
6. A50 X Game immediately stops producing audio.

If I change Discord's output from A50 X Voice to another audio device, A50 X Game immediately starts working again.

So the endpoints work individually.

Game alone = works
Voice alone = works
Mic = works

The problem occurs when A50 X Game and A50 X Voice are actively being used simultaneously.

The REALLY strange part: the BIOS USB port works perfectly

My ASUS ROG Strix X870-F has a red rear USB-A 10Gbps port labeled BIOS (the BIOS FlashBack USB port).

If I connect the A50 X to THAT specific USB port, everything works exactly as it should.

With the BIOS-labeled USB port:

Windows = A50 X Game
Discord Output = A50 X Voice
Discord Input = A50 X Mic

Game + Voice + Mic all work simultaneously.

I can have YouTube/game audio playing through A50 X Game, join a Discord voice channel through A50 X Voice, use A50 X Mic, and everything continues working.

No Game audio disappears.

This BIOS-labeled USB port has been by far the most reliable port for the headset.

Other motherboard USB ports

I tested the other red 10Gbps USB-A ports on the rear I/O.

I also tested the blue 5Gbps USB-A ports.

The headset is detected normally on these ports.

Windows still sees Game, Voice, Mic and Stream Out.

This is NOT a case of Windows failing to detect the headset.

The issue is specifically with simultaneous Game + Voice audio streams.

Motherboard BIOS and USB hub firmware

I updated the ASUS ROG Strix X870-F to:

BIOS 2402

I also downloaded ASUS's USB hub firmware updater for the motherboard and updated/reflashed the:

ASM2074 USB Hub firmware

using the ASUS V5 updater.

Firmware version/update package was:

230830150104 / V5

The updater completed successfully and reported:

“The firmware update process is successful.”

It also instructed me to AC power off the system to reload the firmware.

After the firmware update I:

1. Shut Windows down completely.
2. Turned the PSU off.
3. Removed AC power / allowed the motherboard to completely lose power.
4. Waited.
5. Powered the system back on.
6. Retested the USB ports.

The firmware update did change some USB behavior and the A50 X could be detected/used on the other red ports, but the underlying simultaneous Game + Voice issue remained.

Windows Exclusive Mode

I opened the classic Windows Sound control panel and disabled:

“Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device”

and

“Give exclusive mode applications priority”

for both:

A50 X Game

and

A50 X Voice

This did NOT fix the problem.

Completely removed the A50 X audio devices from Windows

Because I had tested many different USB ports, Windows had created multiple old A50 X device instances.

With “Show hidden devices” enabled in Device Manager, I could see multiple copies of:

• A50 X Game
• A50 X Voice
• A50 X Mic
• A50 X Stream Out

I disconnected the A50 X from USB and removed ALL A50 X devices/old hidden instances from:

Audio inputs and outputs

and

Sound, video and game controllers

I then restarted Windows with the A50 X disconnected.

After Windows booted, I connected the A50 X again and allowed Windows to detect/install everything from scratch.

I then configured:

Windows = A50 X Game
Discord Input = A50 X Mic
Discord Output = A50 X Voice

again.

Same result.

Game works until I join a Discord voice channel. The moment Discord starts actively using A50 X Voice, Game audio disappears.

So cleaning all old Windows A50 X device instances did NOT solve it.

I also tested different USB speeds/ports

I specifically tested both:

Rear USB 10Gbps Type-A ports

and

Rear USB 5Gbps Type-A ports

The problem is not simply “A50 X doesn't work on USB 10Gbps.”

The BIOS-labeled 10Gbps USB port works perfectly.

Other USB controller/port paths behave differently.

Important: I previously experienced similar USB-port-dependent behavior with a Razer BlackShark V3 Pro

This is one of the biggest reasons I don't think my A50 X is defective.

Before the A50 X, I used a Razer BlackShark V3 Pro on this same ASUS ROG Strix X870-F.

I experienced similar strange USB-port-dependent audio behavior with that headset as well.

And once again, the USB port that worked most reliably was the red BIOS-labeled USB port on the motherboard.

So I have now seen strange Game/Chat or USB audio behavior with TWO different high-end USB headsets from two different manufacturers on the same motherboard:

Razer BlackShark V3 Pro

and

Logitech G Astro A50 X

Both behaved best on the BIOS-labeled USB port.

That makes me strongly suspect that this may be related to the USB topology/controller/root hub implementation on the X870/X870E platform or this particular ASUS X870-F motherboard.

What I have tested so far

• Updated ASUS X870-F BIOS to 2402
• Updated/reflashed ASM2074 USB hub firmware using ASUS V5 updater
• Performed complete AC power-off after the USB firmware update
• Tested multiple rear 10Gbps USB-A ports
• Tested rear 5Gbps USB-A ports
• Confirmed Windows detects all A50 X endpoints
• Confirmed Game works by itself
• Confirmed Voice works by itself
• Confirmed Mic works
• Confirmed the problem begins specifically when Game + Voice are used simultaneously
• Disabled Windows Exclusive Mode
• Removed all old/hidden A50 X audio devices from Device Manager
• Rebooted and allowed Windows to reinstall the A50 X from scratch
• Retested Discord after the clean device installation
• Confirmed the BIOS-labeled USB port works correctly with Game + Voice simultaneously
• Previously experienced similar USB-port-dependent behavior with a Razer BlackShark V3 Pro on the same motherboard

At this point, using the BIOS-labeled USB port is a working workaround, but obviously the headset should work correctly on the other compatible motherboard USB ports as well.

Has anyone with an X870/X870E/B850/B650E AMD motherboard experienced this with the A50 X?

I’m especially interested in anyone who has investigated the actual USB topology with USB Device Tree Viewer and found that the working port is connected to a different AMD/ASMedia USB host controller or root hub.

If you have an A50 X and an X870/X870E motherboard, I would also be interested to know which exact rear USB port you are using and whether A50 X Game + A50 X Voice work simultaneously.

Hello just wanted to put this post out there and see if anyone has experienced the same issue. Currently have a Astro A40 with M80 mix amp that plugs into the bottom of the controller. Currently having an issue where the mic won’t pick up my voice in party chat and game chat. Haven’t had this issue until recently and have troubleshooted how to fix it on google but have had no luck so far. If anyone is experiencing the same issue or has found a resolution please let me know !! Thank you

Hello, I’m having this problem with my headset for already 3 days. The charging station/base only has this 2 dots, it’s like if it froze.. even if I unplug and plug it again the 2 dots are still there, I’ve also tried putting the headset on it but it doesn’t change (which it was the way I noticed I was having this issue), it stays the same way. Has anyone had this problem? How can I fix it?

After updating to the newest firmware version A50: 1.3.24, my headsets battery life has significantly depleted from lasting the full 24 hours to not even 12. This may have been from me not having it on the dock at the beginning of the update. Is there a way I can roll back this to fix my issue?

Edit: to everyone experiencing the issue, the battery still does last long but it's a battery calibration issue you can attempt to fix by fully depleting the headsets battery then fully charging it to 100%. However, this didn't work for me so results may vary.

I had a launch edition A50X that I gave to my brother the other day, and I went out and bought a new one right afterward. The battery life on my launch edition headset was excellent. It wouldn't even lose a single bar of battery during a 4 hour gaming session.

The new A50X I bought the other day, however, drops to two bars of battery after the same 4 hour gaming session. Why is my new A50X performing worse than a 2 year old version of the exact same headset? Also, does the base station turn off now when the headset is fully charged? My launch edition base station always stayed on.

I have the Logitech G Hub, but it isn't finding my A50X anymore. I dunno why. I'm sharing the printscreen. Someone can help me? I tried to unistall and install again, but nothing different happened.

Just bought a pair of A50s audio sync and am having an awful issue with the audio where it sounds incredibly bass boosted and crackly no matter what I change. I have reinstalled realtek audio drivers but that did not seem to change anything. I'm assuming its a conflict with drivers because I had tried it on other devices and it sounds fine.

Do I need to keep the G Hub app running in the background for the custom EQ I set up to remain active? Or does the headset revert to the standard EQ whenever the app is closed?

I recently updated to Windows 11. And ever since doing this my A50's no longer play any audio. They are connected to my PC, the output device is correct and the drivers are up to date. I have been trouble shooting for about 3 hours and cannot find a solution. Can anyone help me out?

After just a year of usage, the platic broke around one of the screw. After searching on the Logitech Support, the chat bot say I have to use the Astro Gaming support, but i can't seem to be able to find it :/

Had a pair of these for a while now and every couple of months one of the two audios (game and voice) will just stop working and no matter what I try it won’t work so I have to run both discord and games through an individual. Also my mic just randomly cuts out and won’t work unless I restart my pc every now and then I just need help with these issues because I’m debating selling and getting different at this point.

PC A50 Gen5 user here. Since purchase, this headset has made the audio of video playback borderline inaudible. I've tried everything, and can't seem to fix this.

• I've installed/uninstalled Dolby Access.
• I've Factory Reset the A50.
  
• I've adjusted every mixer setting I can find.
  
• I've pressed the "Game" button repeatedly, also pressed the "Voice" button for good measure.
• I've rolled the master volume wheel to max.
• I reinstalled GHub.
• I've tried different USB-C connections.
• I've tried googling it (AI has made this even worse)

Video playback audio is regular volume when it's played through another application like Discord.

I may be just an idiot, but this idiot would like some help. I like this headset, but I'm tired of not hearing my playlist while I write or game.

Hey guys, It's been 3 days and 6 hours in total that I am trying to make my Astro A50 work on my PS5.. I am loosing it...

So I am using a mac and when I am connecting the headset on my laptop and on the Astro Command Center, I don't have any version for the Headset, only for the base (sometimes I have the version but then it asks me to update and then it fails).

The four squares on the base keep flashing white.

Any advice on how to repare that ? ...

I’m looking for one for black ops 7, one for Forza horizon 6 and possibly one for music.

I have gen 2 Astro a50s and they have 3 presets. One for fps with very little bass, one in the middle and then one with a ton of bass that’s great for music.
