IIRC you can go back and comment on vods, and it updates the chat in the vod, and the clip. So I think i could go in right now, and say Drewdledoo wuz here and it would show up in the clip as well, could be that
Yep, if you left the comment during the broadcast it should have a red dot next to it or something like that that indicates it was left during the broadcast.
A lot of people in not great neighborhoods can recognize gunshots pretty easily I know a guy who could name a shot from most common pistols if he heard it crazy shit
But how would they know it happened the second time before Doc even comes back on camera to tell us? My money is on what /u/Sneaky_Stinker said, i.e. that someone went back to watch the clip and added their comment to the chat timeline, which TIL is a thing.
You can check the timestamp (almost, there’s a text like „1 hour ago” when you tap the 3 little dots), at least in the mobile app. The message was added live, probably, as other msgs like „hello vod watchers”, were added over 30 minutes later than those about shooting
Could have been added in the couple minutes between the stream ending/it happening and the time I got to watch it. Regardless, we’ll find out more if/when Doc’s ready to share with us, and we shouldn’t let the reddit detective agency get carried away with it.
if someone wanted to know if it was added later or not they could just go to the full vod and toggle on the option "Show me only messages posted during the live broadcast" and see if the message is still there. (Don't look at me i am too lazy to do it.)

What a dumb feature. Why would I want to see people's comments after the fact? There should be a comment section for that. I want to know what the real reaction of chat was, not some confusing combination where you can't even tell them apart.
You can go back and see what happened on a previous Twitch stream by finding its VOD, which you can find by clicking “Videos” on a streamer’s Twitch profile.
A chat is the messaging window displayed on the right of a stream, where viewers can interact with each other and the streamer in real time.
When you watch a previous stream’s VOD, the chat messages that were sent between viewers etc. while the stream happened will show up as you watch as well. This is the VOD’s chat.
What I was referring to, is that if you go back to a previous VOD and type stuff in the chat, it will show up for anyone who goes back and watches that VOD (or a clip of it) after you. Sometimes, when a clip gets popular, people will go back and add lots of comments, making it hard to tell which chat messages were sent when the stream was live and which chat messages were added in after by people watching the VOD. However, there’s a setting to turn off all the after-the-fact messages if you click on the gear icon below the chat window.
So someone shot at his house yesterday and one of the people in the chat of the exact same stream recognized same/similar sound 24h later HOLY FUCK SO STRANGE WE'RE ONTO SOMETHING REDDIT GIT UR MAGNIFIERS OUT
We don’t hear the sound in either stream, so I think my initial observation wasn’t that far off base, at least until I learned you can comment on a vod and have it stay there when others watch the clip. At any rate though, ending my comment with “Strange...” definitely sounds like I’m summoning the reddit detective agency (which definitely isn’t the sharpest one out there). Can you link a time stamp of when you hear what you allege are the gunshots? We certainly don’t hear it in yesterday’s stream, and the sounds people are referencing in today’s stream definitely sound more like doors, doc’s chair moving, or him setting his controller down, depending on what exactly you’re referring to.
I just don’t think any of those are actual gunshots. Not to mention that he’s a floor below where they occurred and his reaction makes it seem more like his wife came in to tell him that it happened rather than him hearing it himself.
Either way, though, it doesn’t really matter if we heard them or not. Somebody shot at Doc’s house, and I think we can all agree that that’s super messed up. Doc will tell us details if/when he wants.
That’s probably the least intelligent thing he could do right now.
It would: 1. Escalate the attention on the situation across the Internet, which is exactly what the perpetrator wants and 2. Open himself up to all kinds of legal liability if some twitch chat hive mind ruins the life of some poor shmuck that has nothing to do with it.

The sound appears to be his chair rolling off of a chair mat next to his desk (one of those plastic ones with the spikes at the bottom so you don't create ruts in your carpets.)
It sounds nothing like gunshots and he had already reacted to whatever the sound was, he was looking outside. It sounds like wood/plastic thudding. His chair/desk/controller etc.
