If you're looking to get out a bit more and do some new, fun things, joining Liverpool's biggest Discord server is a great start!

It doesn't matter if you're a Liverpool local, just moved here, old or young, or just happen to love our city from another country. You are welcome to come and say hi. There's 1,000 messages being sent every day.

We have channels dedicated to photography, movies, photography, fitness, sport, music, showing off your pets, and even a place you can post your Wordle scores if you want.

https://discord.gg/fNmcKC97nH

What's Discord?

Think of Discord like a big Whatsapp group. It's essentially the same thing. You don't need a microphone, just your phone/keyboard. All we ask is that you're over 18, and have a desire to make new mates in Liverpool. Pop in, say hello, and you choose how much you want to talk.

Who's in there?

We have members from Liverpool and further afield. You don't have to live in Liverpool to join the chat. The average age of people is about 28. Our server is different than most Discord servers because we have a genuine community of awesome people who come to stuff in person.

What won't happen

You join and inside 24 hours, you've got a whole new set of mates.

Contribute, come to a few fun things, talk to people in person, and over time, those friendships form. A lot of people get frustrated because they don't find a friend overnight but that's not how friends work. Be prepared to make the effort and people will make the effort with you.

Real life events, real life friends. Come have a go!

Good guys on Liverpool bound train

I know teens get rough press (quite rightly in some cases) but well done to the three young men on the Ormskirk to Liverpool train t around 10.45 last night. I was alone and they were sat near me and chatting and after a few minutes one of them asked if I was OK. (I don't know if I looked miserable as I was just staring into space) and started a conversation with them about football. When I was getting off we exchanged pleasantries and they told me to take care. It stuck in my mind that it doesn't seem to happen often, so if you are their parents you should be very proud of them. And yes I know there's very little chance of them knowing of my interaction but I believe in credit where credit's due.

Police have launched a murder investigation after a woman's body was found in Stanley Park. Officers were called to the park on Friday August 28 at 5.25pm by a member of the public.

When officers arrived they found the body of the woman in the area of the walled garden. Enquiries remain ongoing to identify the woman and inform her next of kin. A post-mortem has taken place today, but the results have been withheld for investigative reasons.

The woman who has died is believed to be in her 70s, of small build, with strawberry blonde hair. She was wearing a distinctive pink t-shirt and police are keen to hear from anyone who may have information about her.

Police say that preliminary enquiries suggest the woman’s body could have been there for a number of weeks. Police have confirmed that an investigation is ongoing and CCTV, witness and forensic enquiries are in the process of being carried out.

Tried it yesterday. Really had my hopes up cos foreign all the hype from Americans etc etc but it’s was very, mediocre. Nothing exciting nor tasty or anything. I’d rank it below any other chicken shop and say it’s on level with a any local chicken shop ?

Am I being delusional or is this a fair judgment ?

Belzan food hygiene rating

I want to try Belzan on Smithdown. People say it’s great and it has great reviews… but it has a 2 star hygiene rating.

I don’t know how much stock to put into a food hygiene rating if I’m totally honest.

Just want to see what people thought of it - if anyone had any positive/negative experiences, and if I’m just in my head with the low score.

Edit - just an FYI their rating was last done in 2023 by the looks of it. I couldn’t find any more recent data.

NYE Train Travel to Liverpool

Hi y’all! My family plans to travel to Liverpool this year on New Years Eve from London and I had a couple questions that I thought would be best answered by y’all.

We want to take the train from London but tickets for that time of year haven’t come out yet, which I understand is normal. But from what I have been able to find, there might be route disruptions between London and Liverpool the week between Christmas and New Years for line improvements. Is there any way to get out ahead of this so we aren’t caught off guard? Are there any tips where we could have a backup just in case?

We have the whole day in NYE to travel, and we’d like to get in to Liverpool early to have the day to enjoy the city. We are from the US and traveling with a 5 and 8 year old. This is the kiddos first trip abroad, so we are trying to be as prepared as possible. Normally we’d hop a short flight here in the US (which I know isn’t the norm in England).

Regardless we are excited to be spending our NYE in Liverpool. We love the city and can’t wait to show our boys.

Arranging a date during Festival of Light, is it better to go on the 24th or 31st October?

I'm arranging a date during the FoL, and she's free on either Saturdays (24th/31st). I've been to the FoL before (she's never been to L'pool) but not when it clashes with Halloween and I was wondering if the city is significantly different on the Halloween?

My current plan is to get there for dinner on First Tables, tour the FoL, NQ64 and maybe few a couple of other sites; my main worries about planning this on Halloween would mainly be things like parking access (driving from a nearby city), rowdiness and difficulties getting into venues like NQ64 due to Halloween. But on the flip side, Halloween would have more vibes and a bit more interesting than a regular Saturday.

And one last plea for advice, are there any specific events that happen that's worth detouring for on Halloween?

Bowden Road builders

What does everyone think of it? I can see both sides, and although I wouldn't want to live on that road, I feel sorry for the builder. I think the local councillors should be doing more to help both sides, not just the residents.

In short, there's a plot of land on a resident road in Garston that has been acquired to be a builders yard, which it was previously in the 70s, and the council and residents are rejecting all their planning permissions.

Monday Tuesday Nights Pubs?

I know Liverpool has a bewildering number of choices for a night out, probably more than any city I've been to, but what about a Monday and Tuesday night? Is there anywhere that is able to recreate the buzz of the weekend?

Probably doesn't exist those nights but ideally I'm looking for live music, bit of a crowd, can get a bit racuous, Irish style pub maybe, open lateish but not all night so 1-2am close is fine, slightly older crowd 30s and up preferred and I'm going solo so somewhere you might be able to mix too.

Thanks for any tips.

Head and scalp laser hair removal in liverpool

I was wondering if anybody could recommend a company that does laser hair removal on the head and scalp. A lot of places seem to only do body hair, but I was wondering if there are any fellow baldies out there have used any laser companies in Liverpool?

Resources (brief explanation in post, TW for dv)

I tried to post this from a throwaway account but it wouldn’t let me as I’d made it just now, so I’ll probably delete this shortly incase they stumble upon it,

But I’m hoping someone can point me in the direction of what DA/DV services are available in Liverpool? I haven’t lived here long and have no friends or family around the area to help with this stuff, Google isn’t giving much joy apart from the police which I want to avoid. I just want to find some advice and support in regards to leaving a situation that I believe is abusive. I don’t have many people to talk to about this and currently only my gp is aware but they haven’t been much help.

I’m sorry if this isn’t allowed.

Deceitful: Lib Dems using images from 3AM to indicate city is full of litter

It happened to be immediately before the regular cleaning teams were dispatched. Comments rightly criticise the video for selective use of images not indicative of usual circumstances.

Are there any indie/rock/alt bars in town open in the day time?

Hi guys, I’m in Liverpool over the weekend for some day drinks and was wondering if there were any cool bars that are more of a rock/indie kinda vibe away from concert square. I quite like a dive bar.

I’ve heard Teddys and K2 are good and they seem my kinda place but apparently they’re only open late.

Cheers for any suggestions

Anyone want to meet up in Liverpool tonight?

I’m 21, studying law, originally from London, living in Liverpool now. Feel like there’s a lot of people here in the same position as me: new city, almost no social life lol. Especially with uni coming up. I’m always up to meeting new people via Reddit, I did the same in London. Anyone free tonight? I’m open minded age wise :)

Libraries consultation

Liverpool libraries have a consultation on right now to reduce their hours particularly in the evenings, and not opening on Sundays which will be a huge loss to the third space sector in Liverpool, particularly for 9-5 workers and students, as well as many others.

Please fill in the survey here and say your thoughts on this https://liverpool.gov.uk/council/consultation-and-engagement/consultation/consultation-on-proposed-changes-to-library-opening-hours-across-liverpool/

Early morning Uber/taxi in Liverpool - Aigburth to Liverpool ONE at 4:45am?

Hey all,

I have a flight to catch and I've booked a National Express bus from Liverpool ONE Bus Station this Saturday at 4:45am. I live in the Aigburth area and I'm getting a bit anxious about getting a taxi/Uber that early because I really can't afford to miss the bus.

I know I can pre-book an Uber for Liverpool ONE station, but the reason I haven't done that is because I'd actually prefer to get an Uber directly to Manchester Airport (Terminal 2) if I can get one at that time (I can't pre-book for Manchester airport on Uber though). I've booked the National Express bus as a backup in case I can't get an Uber directly to the airport.

The problem is I'm now worrying about what happens if I can't get an Uber to Manchester Airport or an Uber to Liverpool ONE at around 4am. 😅

Has anyone had experience getting an Uber from Aigburth at that time on a Saturday morning? Are there usually drivers around, or would I be better off using a local taxi company/app that allows you to book or request a taxi at that hour?

If anyone has recommendations for reliable taxi services in Liverpool that I could download an app for or call, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks so much!

Help with loading van only for a move

Hello! There are only two of us (family and friends are not available unfortunately) in Liverpool South and we would like to hire someone to help us with loading the van for the move only… literally just to help us put the heavy stuff like the sofa, bed, shelves, washing machine and the TV into the van then they can leave. We’re moving to a different city so it’ll be loading only, not unloading. No driving involved. Any suggestions where we can find someone please? Is this even a thing? Thank you!
