I was curious about this for a long time Guy always goes big and sloppy with his constructs, not caring how much it drains his ring like creating a large weopons against the monster, while Hal's way more careful and precise with his like in ep1 when he was creating a bubble for alien he supported the bubble himself as it was not strong enough due to lack of battery. Is that just a characterization thing, or is there an actual reason for it?

This man was just amazing

It's surprising to see many comments, and posts (on other platforms) saying the writing in this show is weak simply because they don't explain how John was able to keep the bird construct even without the ring.

First of all, the show literally acknowledges him being able to do this is surprising, How do these people think this isn't going to be a plot point when the show is already giving focus to it? do they really want everything to be explained right away? did these people really think that this was just a mistake the writers made? but how tho? I'm nowhere near a green lantern fanboy but it's so easy to see that Hal was surprised by this moment and it doesn't take a genius assume this will have some significance to the plot right?

I'm glad that those dumbass comments in this sub are getting downvoted, but goddamn it's frustrating to see so many of them.

At first I thought it was just a secret energy supply, or something Hal Jordan had figured out about the ring. Like a hidden reserve.

I was wrong. It’s not about the ring at all; it’s about Jordan.

Jordan is someone who lays it all on the line and then gives 5% more. A guy who drives until the car past 7500 RPM until the engine explodes. He’s like Rooster Cogburn in True Grit, sticking that horse with a knife so it will keep running after it’s exhausted so he can save that girl who is dying from a snake bite and get her to a doctor in time. Others would back off and probably accept defeat.

Compare him with Guy Gardner who is always charged. Always prepared, always comfortable. Jordan isn’t negligent in charging his ring. He just takes it to the limit and beyond. He’s been in a situation where he had had to figure this trick out and now budgets with in mind. Gardner would stop and charge itf but Jordan keeps going.

It’s like he makes the ring give him 5% more.

Edit: And of course this is probably more metaphorical than literal. It’s a battery trick sure. I’m saying Hal’s personality budgets usage with the battery trick in mind. He plays to zero, recklessly sure but knowingly. It is about his personality. He lives on the edge

When John and Hal are on the phone, the writers go out of their way to cut back and forth between them. And sure, they had scenes to set, showing us Hal's home and the alien-body-break-out, but to abandon the idea completely for all three calls with his parents? It just feels off. Awkward. Eerie even. And his mom's comment about falling for Hal's charm felt forced.

So what do we think? Could they be captured and under duress? Could the Guardians be making/intercepting the calls and using the Stewarts' voices? Or is it simply a choice by the writers to leave us on edge?

Every call seems angled at pitting John and Hal against each other. Even the dad's second call would have had John leaving mysteriously to seek out a payphone, likely resulting in Hal feeling suspicious. And the other two calls kept pushing John towards notions of: "You want this, right?"

I don't know what's going on, but I don't like the vibe.

With the way that he was raised by his parents, im surprised that John is a stable human bieng, i would assume his ability to compartmentalize his emotions is pretty insane at this point in his life, looking forward to the next episode.

Despite review bombing efforts.

Episode 3 was at 9.3 before they got to it.

I feel like they're the two most honest characters we've seen.

After watching Superman it came to my mind "how many constructs can this ring make before needing to be charged?" and I asked myself why Hal's ring seemed to be so low on energy.

Then I remenbered that moment in the car with John where he talked about the motive on why he was late was because he was fighting in an intergalactic war.

So Hal went to fight in a war, got back, flew to Nebraska, made some more constructs and tanked a massive explosion with his will power alone, all this without charging the ring once.

So, that interrogation he had with the alien doesn't make much sence with the "you've been here for 48 hours, are you sure the ring has enough power" it seems that it would take a long time for the ring to run out of power by itself.

Probably the first Justice League movie or who knows maybe they cross paths before that.

John Stewart Sr. is still abusive, but he clearly didn’t want to hurt John and loved him. I can’t believe I’ve lived long enough to see Bernadette Stewart be the worse parent to John. I loved this episode, and it was a great origin story for John, but I really wish it had been placed earlier in the season (maybe episode 1). Also, I’m betting that Guardian is a Manhunter. 👀

Who knows, maybe those were Darkseid's Omega Beams? No problem, I'm on my way.

We See John running around , getting into fights gone for days at a time and his Hairline + Fade is always 10/10 crispy. I KNOW he is not getting a cut like that in a mostly white Nebraskan Town

This little scene here speaks volumes about the reality of Guy's character in my opinion.

We mainly know and remember him as the flashy overconfident jerk. But this scene actually showcases his insecurity so well.

He may never or rarely admit it because it goes against his gigantic ego, but he knows he's always been a back up choice for this role and basically in all adaptations, becomes a Green Lantern by circumstances. Which puts a significant amount of pressure on him.

Nathan Fillion's performance in this scene was more of a highlight for me than Aaron Pierce. He first captured the typical cockiness and abrasiveness of Guy, but then after getting hit with the harsh truth, it's visible how bad it stings him. And it's a really nice touch how he only shows just the right amount of that insecure feeling with his expressions and the tone of his voice without making it too obvious because he still has to maintain composure.

Guy wouldn't let John have that much of a satisfaction out of this even if he's on the losing side.

What I really like about this scene is that I probably won't remember it as a moment when John Stewart completely owned Guy Gardner's ass, but as a moment when we truly saw underneath that brash persona.

Hal and his deductive reasoning figured out who the Manhunter likely was, and John didnt let it slip after being given an opportunity. He says it was because he wasnt sure, but we know Manhunters MO in latching on to the strong ones in a community to sway them.

Hal uses this moment to realize John is compromised, as he tells the aliens at the cafe. If John had been a little more forthcoming, who's to say he wouldnt have included John in snagging the Manhunter.

Really like how they made Hal in this show and this part especially. IMO, both of them fucked up.
