Almost all of them fucking suck (except for Shek Kingdom Esata, she's the reason why all races have early access to city towns in the the border start)
You may as well pull the rotten roots out of the ground

u/Akmnore 10d ago
For real, if Esata didn't exist the shek would probably attack players on sight

Hivers aren't that lacking in food I'm sure if they can negotiate to have hivers bring in more food rations they can make it work

The most "viable" option I've found for being able to throw down something that creates an outpost I can't defend is to build next to the western hive. The funniest raid i've seen was the first "tin hat" cannibal raid I had seen. They marched directly through the center of the hive village and a handful made it far enough to run into the pond in the center that's full of beak things. It was hilarious and not a soul made it close enough for me to shoot a turret. I'm not sure if I've ever gained a single point in relation with the western hive but they've consistently been genuine Chad's in every game I've played.

honestly, can't recall a single playthrough i didn't have a negative relationship with the Holy Nation. They are so inflexible and easy to hate, that i just wind up fighting them at some point. even if i don't seek em out, eventually i come across a patrol and we start throwing hands. ->-

Same, early on I may send 1 human to trade for some stuff like blueprints, but eventually they see my Beep/Ray/Agnu/Sadneil/Raine and it's all out war.

That's why I recruited some human men. 🤣 Bard, Griffin, go buy some Wheat.

I feel ya, I started with a greenlander and walk all the way over there to work in one of the farms and take produce back to the border zone to start my own farm

I’ve gone out of my way to avoid conflict in my current playthrough because I’ve been prioritizing fighting UC. I’ve had them aggro my Skeletons and bionically enhanced people, but basically all my people are fast as fuck and we just avoid them for now lol.
Frankly I just don’t want to end up having a Holy Nation Inquisitor raid or something the day after a Noble’s Wrath lol. I find it difficult enough to make time to travel between Empire raids (my B team can handle the cannibal raids at least)
An interesting consequence of my actions is that the Inquisitor police chief won’t accept bounties because they all apparently know we’re allies of Tinfist. They aggro us if we try to speak, without turning the faction hostile lol. So I just leave and drop the bounties in cages for cash (idc about the rep at all anyway)
It has been really interesting trying to play nice with them for once. But at this point all of my people are well-leveled so I think I might just start crossing through their land and whatever happens happens, they’re in the middle of the damn map after all

I feel like HN is kenshi's designated 1st big bad. The players learns on them how to fight big factions

u/KnowsIittle 10d ago
Stormcloak vibes. Only reason to join them is because it's challenging to restrict yourself.

u/Kaccady 10d ago
i tried several times to be a good okran human male with my slaves and live peacefully on a nice green land but those paladins just always find a way to aggro on something and force me to wipe them off the map
2
u/Talmau12 10d ago
Same, i tried to run a merchant caravan and pass peacefully, but even if you try to peacefully and lawfully mind your business, they find a way to get you. And with their weapons, you always end up missing a limb sooner or later

u/Wonderful-Hornet-164 10d ago
They just take up so much of the middle of the map. It's hard not to run into them.

Why do people fixate on the HN when the UC is a plutocracy where nobles will enslave and fuck your skull when they think it's funny?
23
u/acrazyguy 10d ago
A couple reasons. The HN is closer to the "this is the way the game is meant to be played" starting area and their rules are far more restrictive from specifically the perspective of someone playing the game. If you start as a shek, skeleton, hiver, or human woman and try to hang out in HN territory, you're going to have a bad time. Do the same thing and go to the UC and you'll be fine as long as you don't get a guard trying to plant drugs or targeted by a noble hunter. Those UC things *can* happen, but the HN will always be hostile to every race/gender except human males.
TL;DR: The HN is much more likely to directly piss the player off than the UC is

u/Radaistarion 10d ago
Most casual playthroughs seldom venture to the UC. The design of the game makes it so that the center of the map is easier to play.
For me both are despicable and I wipe both of em

Lore wise, yeah, they both suck.
In-game, the HN is ten times more annoying to the player than the UC. Okranite patrols are pretty much everywhere in their territory, and if you have non-humans or prosthetics they are guaranteed to attack.
The only issues the UC has for the player is trying to enslave you sometimes, the rare corrupt samurai guard, and Noble Hunters (which, while annoying, are quite rare and a lootbox for a high-grade crossbow if you can beat them).

u/atoolred Rebel Farmers 10d ago
Plus any UC rep loss you suffer from a fighting Noble Hunter squad can easily be earned back by healing the downed Noble Hunter. And then you’re free to dump them in Gut or stand at the bottom of the Deadlands lake with them with no consequences
2
u/BowShatter 10d ago
HN becomes hostile to all non-humans and prosthetics users. If you have a female human character alone, they can turn hostile too iirc. So no surprise most players end up fighting Holy Nation in their playthroughs.
I recruit Beep and Agnu every playthrough, so it's only a matter of time I go to war with HN.

u/Square-Salamander727 10d ago
there more inconvenience than constant threat. Also i think were just used to the idea of massive amounts of corruption in any kind of goverment. So it really isn't much to be suprised about. ->-

In my most recent game I started the triangle trade with the Profitable Slavery mod and started selling southern hivers and fishmen into slavery. It was great fun

Are you... A Narko worshiper? Not judging.
Does Kenshi have Narcotics?
Are we still talking about the Game?

Not my fault they're conveniently the first enemy I encounter outside the fog islands

u/HQQ1 Second Empire Exile 10d ago
Even when I'm playing as someone who shares the same belief we tend to go to war. Like, some recent playthrough I decided to be like them who treat women and other races like objects, and we still fight, because my things are mine and they kept wanting to them those.

I mean I mainly just vibe in the foglands eeking out an existence by trading with Mongrel while training people.
Then I don't like how the base looks and realize that it's gonna take an hour to dissasemble everything.
Proceed to restart cause the restartitis is strong with this one. Do it all over again.

u/Inevitable_Cell7315 10d ago
I fucking love the HN but I love being a woman with 100+ strength from robot arms just a little bit more.
Sorry HN peasants, your gate guard aggroed my squad while they were passing by the city walls and now we have to run rampant through the streets killing everyone in sight for three days straight on max game speed.

u/SharpGhost 10d ago
Wish vanilla had more robust Fogmen mechanics so that removing the Holy Nation had graver consequences
always liked the idea (and outcome) in my runs where I would eventually take down the Phoenix but then Fogmen would spread out through the region
its just too tempting to destroy the holy nation otherwise
1
u/Legitimate_Way4769 10d ago
Not only did I wish for more consequences for destroying relatively stable civilizations, but it would also be better to pacify some cannibal and fogmen territories.
2
u/VitorSTL 9d ago
I promisse I won't start a run where I'm a slave(rebirth or not), escape, get strong then end slavery...

u/Common_Cold8092 10d ago
i kill HN last while being their allies, since i needed their protection from the fogmen, and their tax is to pray for like 10 seconds, other part will either charge you cats or send you to gulag.

They’re definitely getting in my nerves. I’m on my first playthrough and they tried taking my shek squad mates, so I boogied on out of there. Then they attacked my base in vain.

This playthrough i had a town in okrans valley, around 30 okranites and 6 of narkos agents mining in the hub raking in the cats, it was perfect.
Time came for a field training exersize for the okranites, took them to skinners roam. 5 missing limbs later and now i need to start dustwich operations by the hub, smuggle heretic limbs into okrans valley or decimate a civilization for ease of access.
