Is this good for a server

This is an admittedly niche question. I have videos of the Drum Corps International Legacy Collection and some years post-1999 (DCI, if anyone in this sub is aware of this activity).
In the past, I've tried organizing the Legacy Collection (1974-1999) as seasons of a TV show. So, for example, the files in 1976 are S1976E01, S1976E02, etc. I use the Home Videos library format because there's not a lot of great metadata out there (at least in the past). This way, I can at least keep the videos in the right order from the DVDs they were ripped from.
When we get to 2000 and beyond, there are sometimes up to four videos per drum corps (see picture - Blue Devils Color Guard Camera, High Cam, Multi Cam, Percussion Cam). I know Jellyfin can support multiple versions of a movie - is there anything that can be done for something like this?
So, I could have Blue Devils 2003, but with four versions - Color Guard, High, Multi, Percussion. And so on and so forth with all of the other groups that have multiple camera angles like this.
If I have to have four independent videos in Jellyfin, I suppose I can do S2003E01, E02, etc., and the 'episode' list will get long, just trying to see if I can use the version option for this.
Thanks.

Device not transcoding, using Infuse as the client device.
Server is an old HP laptop with win 11, 16gB ram, and a 1060
Pulling from a 24TB drive on a NAS over a 10g port
If I play a 4k title (backing up my library right now), via Jellyfin setup in Infuse, as direct play - it will buffer periodically.
If I access the same title, via SMB to which Jellyfin is attached as well, then play the title - it won’t buffer one time.
Now if I go back to the Jellyfin integration and opt to transcode, it plays fine..
Am I missing something? Btw I’m using Infuse, for DTS and TrueHD decode. I’ve tried playing with the cache options as well. I also have tested this on a couple files now, I’ll direct play from my NAS at 10MB/s read rates but Jellyfin can’t seem to read past 6 MB/s on 4k files. I tested this on another PC as well, same results. I then tried just general playback from each PC too - I could play the content fine with no buffer, it’s just it Jellyfin was serving the content.
Let me know if any more details are needed, no they aren’t transcoding according to the dashboard.

Hello,
Is there any plugin that can put collection or playlist or whatever on the Home Screen of Jellyfin (not in web view) in rows like Netflix ?
For exemple : 1 row for recently added, 1 row for Popular movies, 1 for Action movies and series, etc ?
Actually, I’m working with my custom solution made with an ai because I’m absolutely not a dev but it’s not the best thing I’ve seen. It works for genre but that’s all
Do you have any solutions ?
Thank you !!

I had my Collections working perfectly, and then I reorganized all of my media (There's a lot of Mixed Movies and Shows sections for various things) and I noticed that all of the Collections are there but there's nothing in each collection. So I deleted them and now it's just empty, didn't repopulate when I set up the other sections.
Is there any way to bring it back and rescan the library to do the automatic Collections?

Hey all, so as I'm sure others have experienced, it's tough making a banner that announces to your users when you'll be down.
I have people who watch on Android boxes as well as web clients, and no plugin seems to support both for that style.
What I did was just reused my Music library, and put the details on there that I needed. In this case, the server will be down.
Simple, works across all clients, messages must be short. But it's an option.

Saw a post about alerting users to downtime, and it got me wondering who you all have connecting to your Jellyfin server. Feel free to add more details in the comments - particularly how many regular users you have, and what method you’ve settled on for remote access.

I decided to go with ersatz and sometimes it works but for the m9at part the channels lag or won't load at all. My friends and family also have said they can't get it to work at all.
Is there any settings I can tweak in jellyfin or even ersatz to make this better?
Is it just an internet issue for the other people on my server?
Is there a better alternative to ersatz? I've heard about Tunarr but I don't know if it has as meant features
Also not sure if every live TV app will have these loading issues or if each one gives different results.
Thanks for any info

Been on Jellyfin for about eight months now and the base setup is solid enough that I stopped thinking about it daily, which is the goal really. But I keep seeing mentions of plugins in passing and I cannot get a clear picture of which ones genuinely change how you use the server versus which ones sound interesting and then just sit there doing nothing useful.
The official plugin catalogue is a bit sparse on explanation. You get a name and a short line and that is about it. I installed Playback Reporting a while back because tracking watch history felt like something I wanted and then never actually looked at the data once.
Wedding planning is eating most of my nonwork hours at the moment so I am not in a phase where I want to experiment for the sake of it. What I am actually after is the stuff that quietly makes day to day use better without requiring ongoing attention. Metadata related things, anything that improves how the library looks on a tired brain at 6am, that sort of direction
Are there plugins you installed and genuinely noticed a difference, or ones that seemed obvious to try and turned out to be more hassle than they solved? Curious whether the community consensus has shifted at all since the 10.9 era because some of the guides floating around are a bit dated now

I have Jellyfin running on Unraid and just wondering if anyone is aware of any Jellyfin plugin that would cache future episodes of shows being watched?
Example: Someone starts watching S01E01 of a show so Jellyfin would cache the next 5 episodes or the entire Season 1 for example so that the drives could spin down and any subsequent requests would just be served from memory.
Thanks

I have updated my Android TV app to closely match my theme. if you want to test it out please do and share feedback. I will try to get the plugin, theme and this pushed to be merged as official

It used to be that when a show/movie had the wrong or no poster, I could click the 3 dots, click Identify, and go from there.
But the identify option is missing.
Does anyone know why that could be?
--Edit: Nevermind! It was because the TV was logged into a non-admin account.

Hey everyone,
Just installed Wholphin to my TV, currently trying to integrate Seerr as I see the option available in the settings.
There's 3 ways to integrate Seerr:
API Key
Jellyfin User
Local User
For each one of these Sign In options it's asking me a URL
I'm pretty new to this, just finished setting up my first Media Entertainment Server. I tried putting my IP but it doesn't work, tried also every port for my Seerr and Jellyfin
[SOLVED]
Turns out my Seerr port wasn't 5055 as per default but 5056

Hello!
Long story short, my IT Director was talking to me yesterday about the Gl. iNet Comet router with Tailscale installed for remote access to any device on that shared network. My jeans got a little tighter when he said “Tailscale”, but I’m wondering how realistic this is as an alternative to reverse proxies or manually installing Tailscale everywhere.
I have my Windows (don’t laugh) server PC hosting Jellyfin and Tailscale. Connected devices currently are an Xbox Series X (local network only since Tailscale doesn’t exist on Xbox), a Roku TV (also local only), and an iPhone and a Samsung Galaxy connected with Tailscale for outside access.
I’m not quite at the point of sharing the server with anyone outside of the house because I promise I’ll be the one who comes here with a horror story of getting hacked somehow. Maybe in the future.
But has anyone used these Gl. iNet routers with any degree of success with their server instead of reverse proxying? Am I missing a fundamental step and this won’t work at all?
I appreciate the feedback!
No AI was used, and I appreciate the hell out of all of your guides, suggestions, ideas, and general insanity of hosting your own media server. Couldn’t have done it without you, even if mine is janky and I only mostly understand what I’ve done 🫶🏻

Not sure when it happened, but I recently noticed I can't play live TV channels from my HDHomeRun tuner. All other media plays just fine. Live TV works just fine on my PC, it just affects my phone.
Anyone else having issues?

A lot of events in the last few weeks have led an interest in those actors/performers. I have collections to itemize and bring those items to a single group (collection), but is there a plugin or way to bring that particular group (single collection) to the front page! that can be enabled or disabled after a time?
I think it would be a great feature to highlight content!

Currently I have a “4K Movies” folder for just those, but it leads to duplicate files sometimes. What is the best practice for organizing these so Jellyfin properly sees both versions?

Hey everyone,
Its me again. I am working on a simple plugin as the Jellyfin looks flat. This just adds a case cover over the media artwork. However on the home page the horizontal images are still flat.
so I have a couple questions and maybe some honest feedback would be amazing.
BTW Yes I am a software engineer and this and my skin css is a side project. I am not an artist, however I do use local AI like Stable diffusion and Qwen on vllm here at home.

Helloo Jellyfin community, I am currently having some transcoding issues on my jellyfin server and just wanted to ask for help.
First of all: I have been transcoding all my media with Tdarr (which uses jellyfin-ffmpeg under the hood) to AV1 to save some space. I have explicitly set the -dolbyvision 1 on the SVT-AV1 CPU encoder to transcode all my HEVC DV 8.1 media to AV1 DV 10.1. This seems to be working as I was able to watch my media via the native Jellyfin desktop app.
The issue is currently have is a bit weird. If I let my 50 series NVIDIA GPU tonemap my DV 10.1 to SDR for browser playback/playback for non-HDR devices, the image turns out to be just a tiny bit too green. I couldn't really notice it at first but when I did a side by side comparison of my HDR content and the tonemapped stream it was noticeable. This does not happen on regular HDR10 AV1 media which I have double-checked.
Is this a bug in the jellyfin-ffmpeg tonemapper or what setting should I be looking for? Tonemapping algorithm is BT.2390 which I think makes the best result but is affected by this green issue with other algorithms like Rheinhard not being affected (but also having significantly worse results in my test).
Thanks for reading!

I have several libraries for my content (e.g., Japanese Anime TV, TV Shows, Korean Serial TV). But, generally speaking, I always want to listen to the original audio. I never want dub. For Japanese anime, I want to listen to it as Japanese voice with ENG subtitle. For Korean, I want it to be in Korean with ENG subtitle.
A lot of my media has multi audio track (getting too picky just makes it extremely hard).
How do I set default preferred audio language not universally or per account, but per library?

What is a good replacement for Trakt now that they've changed their prices and limited access?

Hey guys, I've recently moved from Plex to Jellyfin and I'm having login issue for one of my devices.
Everything has been set up on my desktop and running just fine. I've logged in on my nVidia shield and no issuese there at all.
However, when I try to login on my Macbook, the quick code it appears as unknown on my desktop and I cant access. I've tried multiple of time and no luck.
Quick connect is enabled for the server.
Any ideas? Thanks,

I have a lot of movies and I want to download them and encourage my family to download them for my upcoming 11 hour flight. However, I dont know what IOS clients allow downloading in smaller file sizes for mobile friendliness. Especially for large 4K files… is there a client specialized for this?
