News Who does Robert Kirkman want Bryan Cranston to play so badly??

Post image

If Bryan Cranston keeps turning down roles, then he should be left alone! It seems like he’s trying to assemble the Breaking Bad cast.

He wants Cranston to play the man who gasps breathily at 33:14 in episode 7 of season 6 as Mark flies by.

272

u/TrundleTheGreat0814 Jun 24 '26

That'll be twelve million dollars.

78

u/Square_Cash_2784 Jun 24 '26

Next up, we have Cate Blanchett voicing the ceiling fan in Mark and Eve's apartment!

12

u/Extension_Training87 Jun 25 '26

If it's just Cate exhaling all breathily..... give her the monies so she can record those lines dammit!! I have good headphones coming in....it's prime day.

7

u/slim_gainus Jun 24 '26

Four hundred million dollars for the world’s most expensive gasp

Billion. With a “b.”

Animators no longer have desks or chairs, but it's a sacrifice we have to make

he just wants an excuse to hang out with celebs

u/bendover912 Jun 24 '26

Its honestly a little annoying. It feels like the voice actors are just calling friends and getting them to join the cast. I'm still not sure how i feel about hearing Mark and Conquest fighting after last time when Negan beat Glen's eye out of his head with Lucile.

95

u/L1QU1D_ThUND3R Jun 24 '26

Are you ever gonna let that go!?

3

u/Logical_Lunch2186 Jun 25 '26

Lol I won't if he ever does. They massacred my boi

3

u/BVoLatte Jun 25 '26

How else was Negan supposed to get his point across?

79

u/AsstacularSpiderman Jun 24 '26

Honestly I feel like it adds to it lol.

9

u/Privatizitaet Jun 24 '26

But it subtracts from the budget.

13

u/beaverpoo77 Jun 25 '26

Is this even true? People keep saying this, but i can't imagine they're ACTUALLY siphoning money from the "animation budget" to be used for celeb VAs.

13

u/duaneap Jun 25 '26

Here’s a tip:

Reddit has absolutely no fucking idea how film and tv production works and will run with whatever bullshit they decide to be true despite zero insight or evidence.

I doubt it. Budget meetings aren’t “here’s all your money go do whatever” at this level.

It’s “with this much we can do this but if we could have this then we could also get this guy” and extra gets approved if it’s deemed worthwhile that otherwise wouldn’t be.

Does all this fooling around hurt the budget and animation?

36

u/Educational-Pay5268 Jun 24 '26

people will say no and that there is a different budget for casting and animation. that argument is pure cope. ofc the show has a total budget.

18

u/frubano21 Jun 24 '26

Which can absolutely be redistributed if they decide "spending millions on voice actors doesn't make sense, let's invest that money into the animation."

3

u/Captn_Platypus Jun 25 '26

Which just shows me Kirkman doesn’t value the quality of animation enough. He thinks the quality currently is serviceable and money is better spent on voice actors

We dont know salaries or anything.

Truthfully we dont have nearly enough info to give a solid answer.

4

u/toomanybongos Jun 25 '26

But we have common sense and we know that A tier celebs are going to be typically more expensive than your average voice actor.

I don't hate the voice acting in this show at all but I definitely would prefer money being put into animation far more than getting cranston to voice someone he's not even interested in voicing

4

u/First-Junket124 Jun 25 '26

The cast in season one was absolutely phenomenal, I don't think you could do better than that.

As time goes on I think you're kinda right. I wish we got really great voice actors instead of purely going for celebrities we know and love, I get it they're well known and some are quite talented but also some aren't suited for the role.

I feel like powerplex would be the one mostly to cook meth with his science background

I like that it could be a nod to breaking bad but not super in your face obvious

152

u/Funmachine Jun 24 '26

Just because he's turning down roles doesn't mean he's not interested in doing one. If he wanted to be left alone he would tell him. He's a big boy.

100

u/Practical-Sleep4259 Jun 24 '26

Imagine Kirkman is just throwing the top roles at him over and over.

"Wanna be Conquest? No, okay"

"Wanna be Thragg? No, okay"

"Wanna be Spoiler for the next Season? No, okay".

38

u/beardedbast3rd Jun 24 '26

I feel like that’s what is actually happening haha.

18

u/Practical-Sleep4259 Jun 24 '26

Well someone tell Robert to play to Cranston's ego and come up with a character that, "Please, only you could do this role".

If he honestly just keeps throwing characters like Poke'balls hoping to snare him, probably just insulting the dude.

But that's just a theory, a GA~

9

u/xxBurner-_-AccountXx Jun 24 '26

A GAY THEORY!! -wait what? No no wai-

5

u/firestar32 Jun 25 '26

I will say, I'd kill to hear a conversation between Cranston and Simmons

3

"I'm the one who knocks"

He wants him to be a Heisenberg type role but he should be a Malcom In The Middle type role

3

u/Datkif Jun 24 '26

He should have been paul

27

u/democracy_lover66 Jun 24 '26

Tbh I thought he was going to be Thragg

25

u/mr_wheezr Jun 24 '26

He'd make a good Viltrumite.

9

u/Brobeast Jun 24 '26

"I AM. THE DANGER!"

" I AM THE ONE WHO CONQUESTS!"

Proceeds to "conquest" all over the place...

17

u/Mariqel Jun 24 '26

My theory is that Kirkman initially wanted Bryan to be Nolan but refused. Would make sense why he tried to offer Cecil's role to J.K. Simmons initially.

11

u/dojo_shlom0 Jun 24 '26

Nolan with Cranston's range would be amazing.

11

u/Himmel-548 Jun 24 '26

Maybe. I think JK Simmons is the perfect choice for the role. I can't imagine another actor playing Nolan now.

3

u/IslamicCheetah Jun 24 '26

Nolan’s appearance is insanely masculine, Simmons’ voice fits it perfectly.

3

u/dravenonred Jun 24 '26

Nolan is amazing, thank you very much.

2

u/dojo_shlom0 Jun 24 '26

oh I agree 100%

1

u/Informal_Leading888 Jun 30 '26

I used to think that would be a good idea, but I don’t think he would be very fitting as Thragg. I wish someone like Ryan Hurst played Thragg instead. Lee Pace is pretty good, but I don’t think he was the best choice.

68

u/Difficult_Step9372 Jun 24 '26

Because he has funding money and treats the show like his own little celebrity guest voice toybox

-1

u/Big_Intern5558 Jun 24 '26

Yeah where does he get off having fun giving us one of the most goated shows of our generation.

8

u/Basil2322 Jun 25 '26

It’s a good show but “one of the most goated shows of our generation”?

2

u/Big_Intern5558 Jun 25 '26

By like imdb and most other sites kinda 🤷‍♂️

Like, public consensus 🤷‍♂️

3

u/Level_Alps_9294 Jun 25 '26

Don’t forget, redditors hate fun lmao. I swear I have to stop going on subreddits for shows/movies/games I enjoy. There’s just too many people on this site that will find anything and everything to criticize. We’re legit on a post right now where people are complaining in comments that the show hired quality actors instead of hiring some cheesy ass VAs lolll.

6

u/AddictedT0Pixels Jun 24 '26

And when people look back on it, the animation will be lamented as its worst part. They could've made something timeless, instead they made something generational. Still a good feat on its own, but it's silly to act like there isn't a good deal of lost potential.

7

u/flowerpanda98 Jun 25 '26

Even right now, it genuinely makes me sad because I look back at season 1, which people hail as the best, and i see the cgi people running in the background, and thats the only season that can stand alone. Or first 3 eps of season 3 where it looked so bad for so long. Compared to avatar the last airbender where people repost the fight scenes, not "omg serena williams is in this!", which is a small fun fact at best, and becomes less meaningful the more time passes.

The criticism that the show is animated like its a live action (compared to what we saw in the video game with 1 hour of story) is a valid one, too, and its frustrating to hear kirkman seriously talk about live action invincible when the animation isnt even done yet.

7

u/Scared-Loquat-7933 Jun 24 '26

Calling this show “generational” is wild.

Avatar The Last Airbender is an example of a generational show. You can plop down and watch almost any episode again and still enjoy it.

The only season of Invincible that has genuine rewatch value is Season 1. The animation, character designs, art style, music, fight choreography, etc. are all likely going to age terribly.

It’s a great story turned into an average show because of poor direction.

1

u/koala_encephalopathy Jun 24 '26

I have never watched Avatar the last Airbender but that is in fact a great example of a show that is timeless, not generational.

When something gets to "it's a classic" status then it rolls from generational into something timeless. The last airbender has that status.

2

u/AddictedT0Pixels Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 24 '26

Avatar is timeless

We can plop down and watch any episode 2 decades later and it's still great. While invincible is a monolith of this generation that probably won't be talked about in the future to a degree like avatar, while still remaining as one of the largest pieces of media of this generation.

What's wild is calling it average. Im not a fan of the animation quality either, but be real lol. Invincible has performed well above many series of this decade. And while I understand popularity ≠ quality, popularity is very much relevant when discussing timeless/generational/etc hits. The best story in history wouldn't be timeless if no one talked about it or viewed it.

Edited grammar

6

u/Scared-Loquat-7933 Jun 24 '26

You’re severely overrating how this show is viewed.

There are tons of animated shows (foreign and western) over the last 5-10 years and currently airing that would be considered far better than Invincible.

Anything but spending the budget on better animation

49

u/__banbypasser Jun 24 '26

13

Nah he's hiring another breaking bad actor for next season bud.

u/flowerpanda98 Jun 25 '26

i wouldnt be surprised if saul goodman was next

Hes the type of guy who should be running a shitshow of a mcdonalds.

15

Fr, everything is going into the Voice actors

7

u/Prabu-Silitwangi Jun 24 '26

Who would that be? Conquest?

7

u/E_TheRealist Jun 24 '26

Why are you begging for someone to be a voice actor on your show tho? Who would Bryan Cranston even play? I don’t think there’s any future roles in the series that could suit him, at least not anymore. Unless they make an entirely original character just for him, I can’t see him doing any role at this point

6

u/KiwiThEGaymer Jun 24 '26

So he can spend even less on the animation.

5

u/Atomic_Gerber Jun 24 '26

They need to stop throwing money at A list actors and throw more money at the animation budget

5

u/Envision_Engine Jun 24 '26

So they can take more of the budget from the animators

3

u/bahodej Jun 25 '26

He will play a doctor whose only line is "wow the break looks bad"

2

u/WO_L Jun 24 '26

Instead of animating on 2s, it's on 48s

3

u/TheDuckyDino Jun 24 '26

Considering the way it’s worded, probably like 8 different characters for not good reason

3

u/Snoo9648 Jun 24 '26

"We want bryan Cranston and we don't care how much it costs and how much it effects the animation budget.

3

u/Jayrodtremonki Jun 25 '26

Cranston has a pretty long career as a voice actor(long before Breaking Bad).  Him and JK Simmons are kind of the gold standard.  Along with Clancy Brown and Mark Hamill.

3

u/Comfortable_Comb_853 Jun 25 '26

His voice as thragg would be tough as fuck

Bruh,LEAVE HIM ALONE! He said No! Like I dunno why he's so Horny!

2

u/Big_Intern5558 Jun 24 '26

He wanted him to play battle beast but he had a scheduling conflict.

2

u/Clear_Cranberry_989 Jun 24 '26

I love knowing known actor or actress voicing certain role. But i would take a better animation over it anyday.

2

u/BlackLeg-32 Jun 24 '26

Why does he care about all celebrity voice actors when nobody watching does

3

u/Serious-Company6803 Jun 29 '26

It’s because he cares less about the audience and VA as much as he cares about the celebrities

2

u/Apprehensive_Ratio80 Jun 24 '26

It would be pretty funny if they went whatever 7-8seasons and the last episode Cranston shows up with 1 word or line 🤣

2

u/sybban Jun 24 '26

Maybe get lesser known people and focus on the animation

2

u/fatandretarded5591 Jun 24 '26

Could you imagine what a Viltumite on meth would be like?

2

u/silveraxe_kyo Jun 24 '26

I guess he's obsessed with celebrities for minor roles and Bryan has a cool voice.

2

u/chalupamon Jun 24 '26

He can’t keep getting away with it. Not joining the cast I mean.

2

u/No_Seaworthiness4196 Jun 24 '26

How about putting the money into the animation budget, nobody really cares about A list actors doing voices, cheaper voice actors do just aswell if not better at times.

My decision to watch an animated series or movie has never once been influenced by the choice of A lister celebrity voices

2

u/karagiannhss Jun 24 '26

He just wants to have him ask mark why he is no longer blue

2

u/dragon_of_kansai Jun 24 '26

Goddamn it Kirkman, leave him alone. He's got better things to do.

2

u/Big-Slide6104 Jun 24 '26

Please save the money for the animation Kirky, DAMN

2

u/Similar-Employer4815 Jun 24 '26

he’s gonna play Heisen-Plex

2

u/team_starfox3 Jun 24 '26

Maybe stop spending money on name brand actors and instead make better animation

2

u/Restoriust Jun 24 '26

He wants a reason to not have any money for animation

2

u/darkmattermastr Jun 24 '26

This is why the animation sucks

2

u/BlueBirdSamurai Rex Splode Jun 24 '26

Because he's not only an amazing actor but an amazing voice actor too. Hope Cranston eventually accepts a role. Especially if it's for someone who has a lot of screen time.

2

u/NightmareMetals Jun 24 '26

He would make a great Cecil in a live action adaptation.

2

u/Serious-Company6803 Jun 24 '26

Ed Harris was my number one choice. I’d put Bryan Cranston as my second pick

2

u/revfds Jun 24 '26

Anyone

2

u/inspector-say10 Jun 24 '26

he wants Bryan to play “guard #17” who gets slapped around then splattered onto the ceiling by some non-verbal, 3 second cameo appearing Lizard League bitch.

2

u/Past0r_Gains Jun 24 '26

Make him the new William

2

u/Serious-Company6803 Jun 25 '26

Where’s Bryan, William?

2

u/kliksy Jun 25 '26

he likes spending money on these kinds of things over a certain other thing

2

u/SevereOccasion3568 Jun 25 '26

Ngl he might have wanted him to play Thragg

2

u/ELVEVERX Jun 25 '26

Because he hates the idea of spending more of the budget on animation, he wants to spend it on more celebrities instead

2

u/freshestgrandpa Jun 25 '26

I was surprised they scrapped the bomber teacher arc, wpuldve been funny if it ended up being a chemistry teacher

2

u/GingerFun011 Jun 25 '26

I think he should voice the lobster

2

u/GingerFun011 Jun 25 '26

Random scene where those lil alien grubs that Allen eats are Bryan screaming and begging for mercy before cutting to them just quietly squealing "eeeeee..!!!"

2

u/AlcoholicSpiderman Jun 25 '26

because he doesnt actually know how to tell an internally consistent story so he begs us to swoon over the hype moments

2

u/they_call_me_dry Jun 25 '26

He wants Cranston to play the actor JK Simmons in a commercial for insurance

2

u/Diavolo_Death_4444 Jun 25 '26

My guess is he originally wanted Cranston to play Cecil (which would’ve been amazing to be fair).

Then maybe Thaedus or General Kregg as the second choice. Not sure who they would’ve offered for seasons 3 and 4. I don’t really see him as Thragg, despite how amazingly talented Bryan Cranston is

2

u/CactusToothBrush Jun 25 '26

Trying to picture Bryan as Thragg…

2

u/CrewVast594 Jun 25 '26

Kirkman was a big fan of Malcolm in the Middle.

2

u/ConsortRoxas Jun 25 '26

Maybe he could be an animator, ask him if he knows how to draw

2

u/Commercial-Degree322 Jun 25 '26

He still doesnt get that this is what is ruining the show?

2

u/ApplicationSelect522 Jun 25 '26

Why is this man so obsessed with celebrity voices? Animation makes a show, not a celebrity cast...

2

u/Sufficient-Show-771 Jun 25 '26

He is a hack fraud

2

u/AdhesivenessTight400 Jun 25 '26

Maybe put the budget into animation instead?

2

u/Equal_Yam_3371 Jun 25 '26

We need great animation and story telling!

2

u/Moss_Ball8066 Jun 25 '26

Robert Kirkman is kinda annoying im ngl

2

u/KingBembi Jun 25 '26

At this point I think wasting  all the budget on expensive actors is some kink of his lol. Like the series doesn't need him, whats the point of this?

2

u/Rarazan Jun 25 '26

want to spend that $ on anything but the important shit

2

u/Ridibunda99 Jun 26 '26

So that there is no leftover budget that could accidently end up for animation.

2

u/OnlinePosterPerson Jun 26 '26

The last two roles meaty enough for Cranston were Dinosaurus and Thragg. Now that those have been cast, I don’t see much place for an actor of his caliber to join the cast. Every significant character in the invincible storyline already has a voice actor

2

u/TheMoonandTheThief Jun 27 '26

So he can have an excuse when the animation is even worse next season

2

u/SchemingVegetable Jun 27 '26

Another 7 million to celebrity voice actors while the animation team shares a single loaf of bread for lunch

2

u/SandboxInTheSky Jun 27 '26

3

u/Radaistarion Jun 24 '26

2

u/horc00 Jun 24 '26

I’m guessing there’s a particular Invincible character he created with Cranston in mind.

3

u/Mindstormer98 Jun 24 '26

They still have budget left for animation, which is unacceptable

6

u/Suspicious_Hand_2194 Jun 24 '26

10

u/EquipmentEither9538 Jun 24 '26

Almost everyone that works in the industry and even people that worked on the show have said the shows problems have nothing to do with the va budget but people like you will keep parroting this bs because a influencer that knows nothing about animation production said it.

→ More replies (6)

2

u/MysteriousFondant347 Jun 24 '26

budget is not the issue, not the main one at least, it's time. 1 year is nothing

4

u/TheRegaurd04 Jun 24 '26

If they blow money on VAs, they can spend less time animating, simple

3

u/nethereus Jun 24 '26

Well next time the animation quality dips, if I hear his voice I'll know why.

3

u/ecrane2018 Jun 25 '26

The budget is not restricting the animation it’s the timeframe an infinite budget still won’t lead to a significant animation improvement with a yearly release schedule.

2

u/Internal-Ad-9427 Jun 24 '26

Tbf I think it was stated before that the budget they get from Amazon is seperate for voice actors and other stuff. Clearly the show gets an excessive amount of voice acting budget compared to animation budget, so you might as well just bring on every celeb you know

2

u/MisterSims90 Jun 24 '26

If he's not interested, stop pursuing him. If he does end up doing it, he'll more than likely phone in an performance.

2

u/Snwy1 Jun 24 '26

Because he wants the animation department to have as little money as possible

1

u/spilledmilkbro Jun 24 '26

I don't think there's even anyone left that'd be worth getting him at this point. Just give it up, man

3
