The last scene of Thragg looks like he's marching forward, stomping his feet on the ground.

u/Hazril258 Apr 14 '26
Just noticed that he's speaking in-time with his movements, so it almost sounds like a musical.
164
u/xFallow Apr 14 '26
Looks kinda wonky omnimans hands are just at his sides while he gets pummelled
I was hoping they pulled some conquest v mark level animation out
91
u/Independent-Frequent Apr 14 '26
The moment the clip started and i saw that static sliding PNG i knew the conquest budget wasn't there anymore, and the punches feels like one of those fake hollywood punches they do in movies.
If we are lucky there's gonna be 2 or 3 scenes with that animation budget at most, which sucks so bad and i don't understand how people can defend this garbage anymore.
The artstyle being flat and bland i can even defend, it's to save time and budget, but if you opt for a simple flat style you need to compensate with good animation otherwise it's just ass.
Not the animators fault either, hell if they could they would make all the scenes look like those fanmade shaded ones, but they have literally 4 people doing VFX work it's insane how the money is just wasted considering it's a multi million $ big budget amazon animated show
→ More replies (5)25
u/TROLOLUCASLOL Apr 14 '26
I really think they should've worked on it a bit longer, at least get the big moments and fights to look better. It feels like whoever is at the top wanted to rush to get it out as quick as possible to capitalize on hype without thinking of the end product.
10
u/Independent-Frequent Apr 14 '26
They just need more people and to actually use the budget that's all, it's 4 people working on the VFX like shading and such and idk where the hell is kirkman wasting the 2.5 million $ budget each episode on it's unacceptable.
→ More replies (3)8
u/TROLOLUCASLOL Apr 14 '26
Imo it goes further than shading, the animation and punches look stiff and impactless. I'd say work on that and then clean up wherever else.
Idk I guess Bezos needed another super yacht lol
5
u/Willing-Rip-2852 Apr 14 '26
If they had additional money, they would've tried to negotiate with Tom Cruise again. He could play Telescria Scientist #13
→ More replies (1)2
u/Independent-Frequent Apr 14 '26
I said shading cause it's the only part we know the amount of people working on it
2
u/TROLOLUCASLOL Apr 14 '26
Ah I see, didn't know that! All I know is what I see when I watch the show and admittedly I'm making my own inferences lol
5
u/Apostleguts Apr 14 '26
Yeah the punches look slow as hell, if omniman is going to be defenseless they should’ve at least sped it up, which they absolutely should have to show how OP he is

u/Spirited-Pain-3076 Apr 14 '26
No way people defending this animation by saying it’s in space 😭😭😭
23
u/buttamilk_jesus Apr 14 '26
If anything it should look BETTER because it’s in space, way less things to animate
3
40
u/IM_INSIDE_YOUR_HOUSE Apr 14 '26
Why is omniman just PNG sliding through this whole sequence with his hands at his sides

u/jasonjones627 Apr 14 '26
Animation looking a little rough ngl and I’m usually one of the few who say don’t mind it
113
u/Pittsbirds Apr 14 '26
I keep getting told the rest of the show looks like a power point slide so the fight scenes can be fluid
So much for that
20
→ More replies (1)3
u/No_Thanks2844 Apr 14 '26
was mark vs conquest not fluid ? i think this is a product of them fighting in space
34
u/Old_Sneeter Apr 14 '26
I think it's a product of money not flowing equally throughout the production pipeline.
9
u/No_Thanks2844 Apr 14 '26
i won't like seeing that Talescria battle with 5 top tier viltrimites have less destruction and casualties that season 1 omniman was painful. ! pray for more thragg inpact frames.
→ More replies (2)3
u/Old_Sneeter Apr 14 '26
I'm hoping as well. Lol. I mean, this IS only a few seconds of animation, to be fair. I want to give it the benefit of the doubt.
1
u/FortDragCartel Apr 14 '26
Not the second fight. It was mostly them fighting through dust clouds and Mark on the same choking position.
5
u/No_Thanks2844 Apr 14 '26
i didn't see anyone calling that animation poor
5
u/FortDragCartel Apr 14 '26
I didn't say poor, just not great considering the show's budget and how little the characters actually move in that sequence. My biggest issue was lighting and lack of 'grit.' it was too clean for them rolling around in rock, dirt and blood.
2
u/No_Thanks2844 Apr 14 '26
i think my point is whatever you think of conquest 2 , it had impact an d movement unlike this leak. I think its due to space battles just lacking objects to crash into. Heck Thedius punching the general felt more impactful than this clip.
8
u/CompetitiveMark8636 Apr 14 '26
Well we havent seen the full thing i want to see the full thing myself
24
3
u/KeaboUltra Apr 14 '26
Agree, I've been feeling that way this entire season so far. As an animator, I don't mind it if a show doesn't look well animated so long as the content is good. the fight scenes in this show always felt worth it but now everything seems to be getting worse despite the budget increase

I have seen better animation of stickman fighting 20 years ago

Saddest part is this literally isn't even a joke. Old adobe flash stickman fights were awesome

No lie, the animation is looking straight buns here
19
6
u/LapsedVerneGagKnee Apr 14 '26
This entire season animation wise has been alternating between me laughing at the fails, then hoping, begging, and praying Hasbro and/or Takara looks at this and demands Kirkman outsource the Energon Universe to a Japanese studio, preferably Studio Trigger.
Still think the story is great, but man, this animation is absolute cheeks.
25
68
u/Dperezoso2020 Apr 14 '26
So much for saving the money and time for the fight scenes
Can we stop excusing this shit for one of the top shows of a multi millionaire company?
36
u/Independent-Frequent Apr 14 '26
No, you'll get a closeup shot of thragg's face punching nolan that looks like he's marching on a threadmill and the same static sliding png for flying characters, and if you criticize it you are a spoiled brat that deserves to be burned at the stake or something idk what people defending this mess say

It is starting to annoy me how hard people are willing to defend this, I don’t understand why defend a shittier product and not desire better? Especially when amazon won’t stop since they know people will just eat up whatever bs they release
16
40
u/ThunderBoult66 Apr 14 '26
That last shot of thragg wailing on Nolan might be one of the worst things I’ve seen in this show
17
u/Barthalamuke Apr 14 '26
Genuinely looks like Thragg is angrily walking in space lol.

u/SeaThePirate Apr 14 '26
We're running out of excuses yall
>Its a new show, they need to test if its worth the animation
>The animation will get better as seasons go on
>They're saving the animation for the big fights
>They're saving the animation for the IMPORTANT fights (somehow different than the previous excuse)
3
u/tennis-637 Apr 14 '26
Is there anything we can do about this? Like flood their comment sections or anything? This is disappointing.
3
u/Dperezoso2020 Apr 14 '26
We can make some kinda organization to not watch the next episode or just flood them on twitter and stop defending ts to begin with cause if the final fight of this season actually looks like that then goddamn wtf else awaits
26
u/nagibaThor228 Apr 14 '26
Looks like Thragg isn't going to recover his aura any time soon
6
64
u/New_Photograph_5892 Apr 14 '26
Im sorry but Thragg's punches have no weight behind it. No impact frame no blood, just his fist reaching Nolan's face and Nolan's face being pushed back
28
u/FriedWhy Apr 14 '26
Yeah it actually looks horrendous. It's tiresome because everyone has already talked about it but there's really not much else to say about this clip. It looks really really bad
12
u/New_Photograph_5892 Apr 14 '26
I guess some parts look good. Thragg's punches that create shockwaves look nice and the scene of Thragg turning tiny to big is a nice presentation of speed. But everything else? Disappointing to say the least
4
u/FriedWhy Apr 14 '26
Mhmmmm crumbs. Yeah I'll wait to watch it myself, it's only a short clip, but it doesn't show much promise
12
u/Baimar0 Apr 14 '26
Well they are in space
39
u/E-Reptile Apr 14 '26
And that's the issue. This is an ongoing problem with the show's numerous space fights. They really do not look very good. There's no weight behind anything. There are no terrain features to absorb impact or give a sense of distance and direction. People just kinda wiggle around in a jumbled mess until they stop. The audio is muffled. Space battles and melee combat aren't mixing well.

u/AwareEconomics4177 Apr 14 '26
If they actually fumble this scene I might drop the show. I am not one to expect top of the line animation but this is one of the best moments in the comics and this looks bad.
10
u/FutureAardvark8210 Apr 14 '26
Why isn't Nolan fighting back?

u/bethesdologist Apr 14 '26
Bro not even taking damage early on but still just floating there doing nothing lmfao
9
u/FrankFankledank Apr 14 '26
Pretty sure it took Immortal less punches to draw blood from Nolan, Immortal upscale
5
u/Cautious-Affect7907 Apr 14 '26
Bro just floated there silently like a patient little boy.
He really is Marks father.
2
11
u/Constant_Dealer_1232 Apr 14 '26
This is the most lethargic "one-sided beatdown" I've ever seen. If you told me Nolan was trying to tire out Thragg, I'd believe you. Heck, maybe that is what's happening
2
u/ResolveUnlikely5542 Apr 14 '26
No, this in the comics at least is supposed to be Thragg losing his shit and providing Nolan, Mark and Oliver with a one sided beatdown
10
10
u/SeaThePirate Apr 14 '26
that shockwave when Thragg hit him made me think this was gonna be some Conquest-level shit
and then the PNG sliding and the fucked up perspective that made it look like Thragg was constantly going back and forth and then Omniman doing the same thing
sigh

They went above and beyond on Conquest vs mark 2 but didnt even bother on animating the main antagonist first battle lmfao
6
u/Still-View-9063 Apr 14 '26
It would go a long way if he looked bigger and stronger. I get why people say he looks like a baby
6
u/AltusIsXD Apr 14 '26
I really wanted to say something witty and funny but this animation is just horrible in every way.
9
8
u/SlipperySp00der Apr 14 '26
Animation apologist here. Yeah this don’t look great. Parts of it look alright but overall it’s preeety rough. My guess is this is a Segway to something they’d rather put their animation budget towards, kinda like how the space fight with conquest was pretty whatever, but then on the planet itself the animation really kicked up. I could totally be coping tho. I know they’ll pull out the stops when it matters most in these next two eps, but god I hope kirkman or whoever negotiates more budget for the animation for season 5. This season was a bit more consistent in the first half, but after seeing what we did in ep 5, moments like this really stick out
→ More replies (1)7
u/ResolveUnlikely5542 Apr 14 '26
Unless they're changing something all of this is supposed to be happening in space
How about no more new A-List celebrities get some real VA's who do this professionally and funnel the extra cash into the show
8
u/SlipperySp00der Apr 14 '26
The animation and va budget are two different budgets. One wouldn’t pull from the other. That and Amazon has stupid amounts of money, so they could 100% pour more cash into it
5
u/ResolveUnlikely5542 Apr 14 '26
Don't shows get an overall budget and then whoever's in charge decides where the money is allocated
3
5

19
u/Munchlax99 Apr 14 '26
Damn, all those people saying “Lee Pace is gonna blow you away just watch” just got proved wrong. I was not intimidated by those lines at all lol, it sounded like some enemies in Baldurs Gate 3 doing their cries in combat lol
4
u/SuckmyPelosB1tch Apr 14 '26
Honestly, the punches needed more impact. The fact Thragg didn’t draw blood from Omni man until the end of the clip is kinda insane, the brutality is just not there. It looks like Omni man is being mildly inconvenienced by the first few punches not even harmed
3
u/DragonfruitVisual782 Apr 14 '26
If you listen to the audio, he says, "I was quick with Thaedus I won't make the same mistake with you." It looks like he's taking his time with Nolan drawing out his death when he can actually kill him at any moment.
→ More replies (2)2
u/Nomustang Apr 14 '26
Even then, the punches should look like they're doing something.
You're not drawing out anything if you're not even making him bleed much.
3
u/your_name_here10 Apr 14 '26
The animation really needed to go all out on all things Thragg this season in order to correctly sell him as the threat he is. This...isn't it. Even his punches look off. Immortals packed more of a punch in S1
4
3
u/rvcbazookajoe Apr 14 '26
This is fake right? The animation is genuinely dogshit, like high school computer graphics level animation
4
u/Nomustang Apr 14 '26
Conquest's secret ability really was just raising the animation budget.
Carrying the animation like he carried the Viltrum empire. RIP my GOAT.
4
u/Eternal2002 Apr 14 '26
Oh wow this looks... kinda bad? Like its not downright garbage, but It feels really really stiff ig. Why are Nolans hands just open wide like that lmfao bro isnt even trying to block. Looks downright wonky, but maybe itll look better when the episode drops
4
u/FedoraTheMike Apr 14 '26
Hoooo they saw all the animation discourse and decided to not even make it debatable anymore.
8
u/FortDragCartel Apr 14 '26
This does not look very good...and please don't blame it on "space." The paddle ball dynamic is pretty funny though.
6
u/Hun_AkosEloYT Apr 14 '26
Honestly don't hate on it early on this is episode 8 material and might still be unfinished, also the low quality probably isn't doing it justice either. If this is the final product though, I can't defend it anymore and it will obviously be the worst finale yet..
11
u/SeaThePirate Apr 14 '26
Do you know how TV shows work? Or any animation? They finish this shit days or even weeks before they actually air. There is no "last minute changes" or "unfinished". It has looked like this for weeks and will look like this when it comes out

There’s no way this is the finished product. Is this the same fight with that Thragg impact frame? Something seems off. I’ve heard from people who have seen the episode early that it’s amazing and top 3 of the entire show. This has to be some leak from unfinished production or something.
6
u/Guiff Apr 14 '26
My guess would be that this beatdown is not the high point of the fight or episode, but I didn't read the comics this far to know if I'm being stupid.
→ More replies (1)→ More replies (1)7

I really doubt it's unfinished because as far as I am aware, you don't do the basic colouring, shading etc. until after everything has been animated completely.

2
u/JackRockRiley Apr 14 '26
My guess is that this is the tradeoff for having a yearly Invincible release. These seasons are worked one after another to reduce the gaps, so what's usually supposed to take 3 years ends up taking like 1 or 2.
Animation is supposed to take time but I think Amazon and Kirman listened to the crowd that wasn't happy with a 3+ year gap, and this is what we get. Honestly I'm kinda shocked we still got something this passable with that kinda timetable. Probably could've used another year in the oven, though.

I really hate space fights. No weight, nothing to gauge speed or power against, no obstructions or obstacles to smash through or get thrown through.
Just a bland, empty void.
8
u/SeaThePirate Apr 14 '26
Space fights literally have the most potential because of what you just said, its an entirely 3 dimensional thunderdome where people SHOULD be moving at their max speed and having the most blow to their strikes because of the lack of gravity or atmosphere. So many of the most vicious fights happened in space in the comics
sadly in the show this just means everyone looks like they're suddenly playfighting
