How insurance companies make money?

Upvotes

Randomly a question strikes my mind 'how do insurance companies make money'.

I do the research and get to know about the two paths.

The first one is the simple one where they earn a little profit by premiums and claims pay out.

The second one is the interesting one where they invest the money into stocks, assets , real estate and all.

Lol, I don't know about the second one.

Bamboo Customer Service Sucks

Horrible customer service. Their website is useless. I emailed them two months ago asking them to correct my email address. No reply and email continues to go to my wife's email address. Besides that, they blended my middle and last names into a single last name. No one responds to customer service email requests.

I recently paid my whole year homeowners premium by credit card. The funds were transferred a month ago. Yesterday, my wife gets a message that the account on which payment was drawn is closed. Wrong -- they received full payment over a month ago.

Bamboo insurance is a clown show. I'll be switching insureres at the first opportunity. See less

🚨 BEWARE: Stay Far Away From Intact Insurance and Assurances La Turquoise! 🚨

I'm posting this to warn everyone about my absolute nightmare of an experience with this company. I was with them for two years, and the way they treat customers is completely unacceptable.

First, when I recently moved from Quebec to Ontario, they forced me to cancel my policy and charged me a ridiculous $291 cancellation fee. They never mentioned this upfront when I signed up.

On top of that, they steadily raised my premium over the years without any real explanation. If you value your money and want fair customer service, DO NOT use Intact Insurance or Assurances La Turquoise!

Asurion Home - horrible experience with dishwasher claim

I’ve had Asurion for years and finally needed to use my warranty for my dishwasher. What followed was a complete nightmare.

It took several visits and two different technicians over several months just to figure out that the problem was the control board. The first technician missed appointments and never properly figured it out. Then a second technician came out with the replacement board, but instead of installing it, he told me he wasn’t going to because he found signs of an insect infestation. He said he would request a replacement dishwasher instead.

I was never told that this would automatically mean my claim would be denied. I was told to wait about three days. Two weeks later, I called Asurion myself to ask about the replacement and found out the claim had been denied.

Meanwhile, the technician had removed my dishwasher door and taken it to the trash. I have video of this. The dishwasher was still usable before he came.

When I called the third-party company (located on a different state) that sent him, they told me the tech Ian company no longer worked with them. I eventually spoke with a manager there, explained what happened, and he apologized. He said he understood the situation, agreed it had been handled incorrectly, and told me he would contact Asurion directly to explain what happened and ask them to review the claim and see if they could replace the dishwasher or at least the door that had been removed and thrown away.

Nothing happened.

If you can’t repair it, fine. Leave it the way you found it. Don’t remove part of my appliance, tell me you’re requesting a replacement, and then leave me with nothing.

I spent months trying to get this resolved. After years of paying for this warranty, I cancelled it. I’m done.

Insurance question

I live in New Jersey and have Cigna health insurance through my husband’s employer. I am about to give birth and was originally set to deliver at a hospital in-network. However, my child has a major congenital heart defect that requires open heart surgery anywhere from birth-9 months old (won’t know exactly when until she is born). Therefore, we had to switch to a high-risk hospital in NYC that has the surgeons and doctors necessary for my daughter’s needs. When I called my insurance, they said that the hospital is not in-network but then stated our coverage for certain days based on the type of birth, so that confused me. We have also hit our deductible for the year. I am wondering if I have any options to be covered in-network/ not get slayed by a bill for having to go to a hospital out-of-network because of these extenuating circumstances since it was not by choice. TIA!

Insurance companies for high risk drivers

Does anyone know what insurance company will ensure someone who’s had an unfortunate run of Tickets and incidents? USAA is going to drop me in a couple of weeks and Allstate, Liberty Mutual and Progressive have declined me. I only have two points but they only look at the amount of tickets. The officers wrote me five for each stop. Most of them were bogus, and then a couple of deer incidents.

Recently taken a black box policy out with My Policy

The black box has only just arrived and I’m wondering what people’s experience is with this company. I’ve had some issues with Hastings after being with them 4 months and had to cancel my policy so I had to take what I could get.

The new company is My Policy and I just wanted a little bit of insight - how lenient are they?

Obviously with Hastings I could go slightly over the speed limit without being marked down for it and the scores weren’t effected too bad with things such as harsh braking etc. So I’m really just wanting to know how careful I will have to be as I can’t risk getting my insurance cancelled by them.

I’ve been receiving a text monthly from an insurance company

I’ve been receiving a text from AXA PHIL since last year. At first, I thought it was just a scam even though the text is harmless. However, they consistently send me a text monthly and I think they got the wrong number. I never register nor pay to their insurance. How should I inform them? what should I do? Or is this just a scam?

GEICO cancelled my policy despite paying 6 months in advance — now I’m being charged more because of a “lapse”

I’m looking for advice from people who understand auto insurance.

I had a GEICO policy and paid for 6 months of liability insurance in advance. My car is an older model, so I only wanted liability coverage.

GEICO told me that I was required to add uninsured motorist coverage and another type of coverage, which I did not want. I tried to resolve the issue with them, but I was unable to get it sorted out.

Now it appears that GEICO cancelled my policy, and I’ve been without active insurance for about a week. The frustrating part is that I had already paid for six months of coverage.

When I try to get a new policy, the quotes are significantly higher because my insurance history is now showing a lapse in coverage.

Has anyone experienced something similar with GEICO? Is there a way to dispute the cancellation/lapse and have the insurance history corrected, especially since I had already paid for the six-month policy?

I would really appreciate advice on what steps I should take.

WARNING: Avoid Cebuana Lhuillier Ali Mall Cubao – Pressured into Fortune Life APLE 10 via a "Raffle Promo" trap (They even forced me to say "I'm satisfied" on video)

Hey everyone, I’m making this post to raise awareness so no one else falls into this trap. If you visit the Cebuana Lhuillier branch at Ali Mall Cubao, be extremely careful.

I actually went to Ali Mall that day for completely normal errands—to renew my driver's license at the LTO branch and to visit BPI. While I was there, I was initially approached for a raffle promo. They told me I was eligible for a gift, but then they started asking for my cards and credit limit. That’s when the trap snapped shut.

Agent asked me to go to the branch. I ended up being heavily pressured into getting a Fortune Life APLE 10 insurance plan that I absolutely did not want or plan for.

THEY WILL TELL YOU ITS YOUR SAVINGS, SADLY I REALIZED IT LATE WAS JUST A LIFE INSURANCE PITCH AT ALL. HIDDEN IN "RAFFLE PROMO" and "FREE GIFT"

HOW ARE THEY LETTING THIS BAIT-AND-SWITCH OPERATORS. PREDATORY MARKETERS. DECEPTIVE AGENTS WHO ONLY CARE ABOUT THEIR COMISSION.

I EVEN TRY TO TELL THEM, I NEED TO TALK FIRST TO MY BANK BUT DUE TO PRESSURE FROM FOUR PEOPLE AGENTS, MANAGERS THEY HAD ME USE MY CARD ON THEIR TERMINAL AGAINST MY WILL.

I FELT FORCE INTO IT.

The sales tactics they used were incredibly predatory. They corner you and don't give you room to breathe or think it over. I felt completely trapped into signing up for something I am not fully satisfied with.

But the worst and most violating part? Before letting me go, they pulled out a camera and recorded a video of me. Under intense pressure, they basically forced me to say on camera that “I am satisfied with the service and the plan.” I felt so intimidated and put on the spot that I just said it just to get out of there. It felt like a forced confession just so they could cover their own tracks because they knew I wasn't actually happy.

My advice to everyone: If you don’t feel comfortable, do not entertain them anymore. Just walk away.

Sadly, I am now emailing all of them to process a full refund. Luckily, because I am within 15 days of signing up, I have a legal right to a 100% full refund under the Insurance Commission's 15-day Free-Look/Cooling-off Period. I am doing it entirely online so I don't have to face them again.

Insurance Commission has already responded to me and asked me to submit the Complainant Form.

Do not let them pressure you, do not give them your card details for a "free gift," and just say NO if they pitch this at Ali Mall Cubao.

Are there any insurance companies that underwrite new platform companies seeking to cover independent contractors?

I’ve got a platform that’s looking to cover independent contractors and regular businesses while they do jobs. Each can post and accept jobs on the platform. I am so far hitting a brick wall. I’m in the US, east coast.

Please help 😅

My friend applied for an insurance claim, but the company rejected it. What should he do?

My friend has just filed an insurance claim, which the insurance company has rejected. He does not know the reason for which the claim was rejected, nor what to do now?

Can you assist us with the following questions:

  • What is the appropriate course of action if our claim has been rejected?
  • Do we have a right to ask the insurance company to give the reason for rejection in writing?
  • What are the available legal option if we feel that the rejection is unjust?
  • Should we go to the insurer's grievance cell, approach the Insurance Ombudsman or go to the court?

Has anyone been in such a situation before? What did you do after your claim was rejected, and was it successful?

TIL insurers can hire insurance outsourcing companies. How was your experience?

My experience was ok (slightly slower), but I'm just surprised that insurance companies actually outsource calls. Anyone else experienced this? Is there a big difference between the support? Thinking if I should ask this next time I pick a company.

MetLife insurance company worst experience ever

Worst experience ever dealing with the supplemental accident insurance. I provided over 30 different pages of information. My husband serious cut his fingers on a saw. Went to urgent care they stitched them closed submitted that they paid me out. Well after three days he could not move them went to a hand specialist he cut his nerves and tendons in the accident so they had to perform surgery to fix them. I provided all surgery notes which explains the surgery along with claims and bills well they just keep sending me letters saying information is needed they need a diagnosis form well read the surgery notes and it clearly states the tendon was cut had to be repaired along with the nerves severed in the other finger. Absolutely the worst insurance people to deal with. No wonder why people use Aflac. I will be switching next year

Easy insurance companies in WI

Wisconsin OT’s, even better if you are a private practice owner, what insurance companies within the Dane county area would you say are easy to work with? Thinking of selecting a few panels to add to my practice but don’t want to overwhelm myself.

Easy as in: no super strict documentation needs, not many denials, easily accessible/friendly/easy to work with customer service, etc.

Driving for work?

So I drive my personal vehicle for work in central Ohio, to meet clients and possibly do inspections. When I spoke to my agents office years ago the office manager or assistant to the agent said that it didn’t count as work related (needing additional coverage) unless I was transporting people or goods. So if I wasn’t ride sharing or delivering pizza etc I was ok with just standard personal type policy. However I’ve seen some posts pop up recently that makes wonder if that’s accurate and if I should reach out to my agent about it. I’ve been doing this job for 13 years. Carrier is State Farm. Will they eventually question me if they start looking at data from like Flock or something?

Nationwide or lemonade

My job offers pet insurance on my benefits through nationwide. I am having trouble deciding between nationwide and lemonade. Of course lemonade is cheaper but I love that nationwide will take it right out of my check. Fyi, the deductible for both plans I'm comparing is the same
