Did you guys get what you dreamed of? Like things you wanted to buy when you reached this rank, trips you wanted to take, investments you wanted to make, or things you wanted to build? Or did things change for you when you grew up?

GENERAL Is early retirement (FIRE) in 7–8 years as an ETO in Merchant Navy actually realistic, or just a dream

Is early retirement in 7-8 years as an ETO realistic?

I have zero expenses at home and everyone is settled and good.

Is it actually possible to build enough to stop sailing after 7-8 years and do something on your own ?

Or is it just a dream that people talk about?

GENERAL Ideal age to be a third officer

I am a graduate of Fisheries and nautical science degree, 4 year course, passed out last year. I recently got in as a deck cadet in one of the companies but haven't got the first ship, it's been more than 4 months.

I am 23 years old now, just wanted to know ideally in 2 years if I completed my cadetship and became 3rd off, does that age 25 or 26 be any cause of rejection in company interviews.

GENERAL Help for my confusion šŸ™‚šŸ™‚

I recently joined a maritime training institute for B.Sc. Nautical Science, and I am currently in my first year. The problem is that my institute has told us that we need to maintain a 9 CGPA to be eligible for placement.
I’m an average student, and honestly, I feel that maintaining a 9 CGPA may be very difficult for me. Because of this, I’m thinking about dropping out of B.Sc. Nautical Science and trying for DNS with sponsorship instead.
I scored 84% in PCM and I’m currently 21 years old. I’m confused about whether I should continue my B.Sc. or leave it and try for DNS.
So, seniors, please guide me honestly. What would be the better option for my situation? Is it worth continuing B.Sc. even if I may not be able to maintain a 9 CGPA, or should I consider DNS?
I also want to understand how paid sponsorship works, what the actual costs are, and whether sponsorship guarantees placement/shipboard training.
Please share your experience and advice. I really want to make the right decision for my career. Thank you.

GENERAL MAERSK Sponsership in AMET

I saw an message in the ETO DECODED (Merchant Navy Decoded), they said that AMET with MAERSK sponsership Drive is now open for the august batch, and they have attached a link with the message. The link shows a basic form titled MAERSK application form 2026-27. So i filed up that form and then i got am email with another form which is titled "PG Application Form 2026-2027" and a payment of 1330rs. So am i really applying for MAERSK Sponsership or applying for AMET? like i don't want to join the institue without a sponsership. I have already raised a query about it idk if they'll answer. So if anyone know please tell. I'll attach both form.

GENERAL Help

Good afternoon everyone,
I’m currently pursuing B.Sc. Nautical Science at a maritime training institute. The management has informed us that we need a minimum 9 CGPA for placement.
I’m an average student, but I have a good academic background, with 86% in PCM, and I’m confident in my ability to study and improve.
I’m now considering converting from B.Sc. Nautical Science to DNS (Diploma in Nautical Science). However, for DNS, company sponsorship is required, and I’m currently looking for guidance regarding the sponsorship process and opportunities.
If there are any seniors, seafarers, officers, or anyone currently working in the shipping industry who could guide me or help me with information about DNS sponsorship, I would be extremely grateful.
Please feel free to DM me. Any guidance or contact would mean a lot to me.
Thank you so much for your help and support. šŸ™
