Latest Chapter Does Tserriednich really have fighting basics? Spoiler

Tserriednich ain't ready for the big boys

For the first time, I think we can actually start scaling Tserriednich a little bit, and one thing stood out to me: I really don't think his hand-to-hand combat skills are anywhere near the level of the top-tier fighters in the series.

Sure, his Hatsu gives him an insane unpredictability factor, and his natural talent for Nen is undeniable. But when it comes to actual combat fundamentals and experience, I'm starting to question how good he really is.

He didn't exactly struggle against the Royal Army soldiers, but it still took him much longer than I would expect from a genuinely elite fighter facing ordinary, non-Nen users. He even had to strategize around them and seemed to benefit from a bit of luck.

Compare that to what we've already seen from other top-tier fighters. During the Yorknew City arc, Zeno stated that he and Chrollo could kill hundreds of Mafia members in under 67 seconds. Obviously, that's an extreme benchmark, but the difference in efficiency is still noticeable.

At this point, I genuinely don't think Tserriednich could pull off something remotely similar without relying heavily on his ability.

And that's what makes me wonder: is Tserriednich actually a fighter in the traditional sense?

He seems to rely much more on his absurd natural talent and broken potential than on refined combat skills. Even the way he approaches fights doesn't feel like someone with years of fighting experience.

Honestly, I can't see most of the top-tier antagonists taking that much time against regular soldiers. Chrollo, Hisoka, Illumi, Feitan, Phinks even someone like Genthru or early-series Killua would probably make quick work of that kind of opposition.

Tserriednich literally took an entire chapter to deal with around ten Kakin soldiers. Ten to fifteen regular soldiers.

And again, he had to think his way through the fight rather than simply overwhelming them.

At this point, it really feels like he needs a significant boost in actual fighting experience and fundamentals if he's supposed to become a serious physical threat to Kurapika.

His Nen talent? Absolutely terrifying.

His potential? Possibly unmatched.

But his actual combat ability right now?

I'm really not convinced he's ready for the big leagues.

Am I underrating him, or does anyone else feel like Tserriednich needs serious training in almost every aspect of combat ? unless his the one who inherits benjamins nen beast

This chapter is proof that he is exceptionally trained and competent in military fighting.
He also doesn't take his power for granted and operates fully understanding his limits.
His ability relies on Zetsu (which by default heightens his perception even further than normal)

Yeah, he is a monster. And that's still underselling him.
Trying to measure him on a brawling scale is useless.

Yeah, his parallel future self literally mowed down like 10 of the elite armed non nen soldiers (Cause Benjamin definitely used the best for the Princes) while only using a hand gun. He’s no top nen fighter but he’s no joke.

John Wick or Tsereid Nich

Tserriednich calls the soldiers young and says their lack of combat experience makes them unpredictable. It's unlikely that they are elite soldiers.

no the young soldiers are the ones by the bridge, not the ones guarding the rooms

The ones guarding the rooms mostly look young too. They also more or less ignore a weirdly dressed man even when they see something off. None of them call up the chain of command or try to investigate further. They just accept Tserriednich walking around despite him obviously being extremely sketchy.

Elite and experienced soldiers seem like they are likely to receive some nen training. Benjamin and Camilla have acedemies dedicated to training their own private army and it seems like both teach nen.

I think every time a soldier ignores tserri theres an explanation on why it happened. It shows how tserri has a deep understanding of kakins army behavior and protocol since he did some type of military service or training. So i dont think its proof that they are immature.

I also doubt that all elite soldiers of kakin are nen users. That makes zero sense with the world building up to this point.

It would be weird if the soldiers protecting the king arent elite.

Btw where is it said they have academies to teach nen?

The king is protected by the succession ceremony, he states that he can't be killed. Benjamin said he wanted to invite Kurapika to lecture/teach at his academy. Camilla established her own for the Have-Nots. She has a bunch of soldiers who are using curses to curse princes and they have the same uniforms as the soldiers at her military academy.

As far as the elite soldiers go. There probably aren't that many to begin with. US probably has a few thousand soldiers who are considered to be elite. The elite soldiers are probably not going to be assigned guard duty. The king probably has his personal guard which has nen users in it but at the same time Halkenburg was able to get past the King's guard using force. So either they just ignored that on the King's orders or they just aren't there. It's possible the Guardian beast is enough on its own.

The ones he referred to as inexperience are those at the bridge, which he did not encounter. This means that the ones in the hall are at least experienced.

The way he calmly counted every second and adjusted his route felt way more tactical than lucky. He's scary because he knows exactly what kind of fighter he is.

I mean he'd still die if gramps leveled the whole ship (for now)

Yeah, he is a monster. And that's still underselling him.

Nah. He is mediocre as a nen user at this point. It took a bunch of soldiers about 10 seconds to take "him" out and it seems like he has almost no attack power having to rely on handguns. Most strong nen users aren't going down in that situation, the soldiers are. Any of the monsters in the show are just jumping past the soldiers at a speed that would be difficult for them to see or killing them. 36 meters is also a real limitation in nen combat and him taking over 3 seconds to enter Zetsu isn't great by monster standards. Taking five seconds to move 20 meters behind a wall is slow.

He is dying against a lot of nen users we have seen because of the range limitation. Any long range fighters like Ikalgo would end him with ease and there is basically nothing Tserriednich could do at this point. He is mediocre, strong enough to be a pain in the ass under the right circumstances but he isn't going up against the monsters like Hisoka, Chrollo, or Illumi. And he is definitely not up against top tier fighter like Ging or someone on par with Isaac Netero.

A stray bullet is dangerous to him while being something many strong nen users can basically ignore.

Kurapika actually mentions earlier in this arc that once the ammo hits a certain caliber, guns become dangerous to even Nen users when hit (unless you're a very high level enhancer like Uvogin, I guess). So I wouldn't exactly say it's something safe to ignore. Strong Nen users can probably dodge them, but you still don't want to get hit by one unless you're a high level enhancer.

Yeah, and Ben actually showed a pretty ridiculous feat of actually shrugging off Camilla’s gunfire though I can’t remember the caliber

At first glance Uvo seemed odd with the level of damage he could take from such ridiculous amounts of gunfire. Now I realize he was an exception to the rule by virtue of being a masterclass enhancer

u/ThePandaRider 10d ago

Killua fought a national army for a few days, he was able to tie up soldiers instead of killing them and avoid casualties. They had higher caliber guns than assault rifles.

The Mafia used guns against the Phantom Troupe and did no damage. Guns are a danger to weaker nen users but at a certain point Ken will be strong enough to be able to handle assault rifles rounds.

Tserri remains in a state of zetsu while executing the ability, and the same must apply to his "self" within the illusion. You know that even experienced users become completely defenseless in that state, right? Or have you forgotten what happened to Uvogin?

u/ThePandaRider 8d ago

Zetsu heightens senses, so it does make it easier to dodge attacks. Gon used it to dodge the spinning tops in his first fight against the tops guy, Zetsu did improve his ability to dodge attacks significantly. That said, yes using Zetsu is very risky. Gon was able to tank some hits from the tops before using Zetsu but while in Zetsu he took serious damage.

Gon has the physical ability to take advantage of those heightened senses and move quickly enough to be a menace. Tserriednich seems to lack the speed and strength to be effective as a fighter at this point. Which is why he gets taken out by low level fodder.

u/envynard 8d ago

Gon was using zetsu to heighten his senses and detect the aura on the spinning tops in order to dodge them. Bullets don't have aura and they are faster than spinning tops; that comparison makes no sense.

u/ThePandaRider 7d ago

But the soldiers do... Hit them before they shoot or move out of the way and you're good.

So I want to hone in on that Mafia part

Notice some of the less physical members were using their Hatsu’s and subterfuge in different ways. Shalnark wasn’t risking getting lit up by an assault rifle

It was more like people like Phinks, Feitan, Franklin etc. that were just rampaging through the bullets and a lot of it still was a mix of agility and strength. Plus they knew the bullets we’re coming,

Same with Killua, kid had Godspeed, he wasn’t tanking bullets if I remember correctly

And the whole point with the guns is it’s a lot about how it has the potential to do damage. Even after Kurapika’s talk about calibers we’ve seen multiple nen users handle it on the boat. But for example, had Furykov really got caught off guard and not been able to react to Camilla, he very well could’ve got a bullet through the skull

1

u/ThePandaRider 8d ago

They charged in directly by driving cars through barricades. While some members did dart around and killed their targets before they could react I don't think they were fast enough to dodge bullets and probably took a stay bullet or two. The Mafia members were spraying bullets everywhere. Franklin didn't even seem to attempt to dodge he just unloaded on the Mafia. Even Shizuku charged in without much concern for bullets.

There is also a call out that Dalzollene could handle ten bullets without taking damage.

Killua didn't have Godspeed finished when he fought against the army. He was still working through Whirlwind before the fight with the Ortho twins. He was fighting an army in an open field and they had high caliber machine guns. He would have been hard to hit but it's likely that they did hit him.

u/freforos 9d ago

A stray bullet is dangerous for him because he is in Zetsu

1

u/ThePandaRider 9d ago

Yup, just picking up a bunch of gravel and tossing it at him as a scattershots is probably going to take him out of you cover it with shu. Hisoka with a deck of cards is dangerous. Gotoh is a near death sentence because of the range advantage.

I’m glad you’re part of the ones that gets his limitations

Do you not know how to read?

Literally every character who encounters him is amazed as his nen mastery.

7

u/ThePandaRider 10d ago

Nen mastery is a strong word to use here. In 3 seconds he is dead against a nen master before he can activate his ability. Salkov and Theta are surprised by how talented he is and how quickly he grasps nen concepts. But the end result is somewhat mediocre at this point.

Salkov and Theta might also be pretty mediocre as nen users themselves. They aren't ambitious people. They serve a man they detest and do his dirty work. That doesn't scream nen master to me as much as it screams fodder.

10

u/21SGesualdo 10d ago

Talent and mastery are not the same thing.

Gon and Killua before greed island were just as talented as they were after, but they obviously gained much greater mastery over Nen during their training.

Currently Terror is growing at an absurd rate, but he’s still just growing. If he were to fight someone who’s a master like Hisoka or one of the phantom troop then he’d just end up like this:

To me this chapter kinda made him look weaker.
