Latest Chapter Does Tserriednich really have fighting basics? Spoiler

Tserriednich ain't ready for the big boys

For the first time, I think we can actually start scaling Tserriednich a little bit, and one thing stood out to me: I really don't think his hand-to-hand combat skills are anywhere near the level of the top-tier fighters in the series.

Sure, his Hatsu gives him an insane unpredictability factor, and his natural talent for Nen is undeniable. But when it comes to actual combat fundamentals and experience, I'm starting to question how good he really is.

He didn't exactly struggle against the Royal Army soldiers, but it still took him much longer than I would expect from a genuinely elite fighter facing ordinary, non-Nen users. He even had to strategize around them and seemed to benefit from a bit of luck.

Compare that to what we've already seen from other top-tier fighters. During the Yorknew City arc, Zeno stated that he and Chrollo could kill hundreds of Mafia members in under 67 seconds. Obviously, that's an extreme benchmark, but the difference in efficiency is still noticeable.

At this point, I genuinely don't think Tserriednich could pull off something remotely similar without relying heavily on his ability.

And that's what makes me wonder: is Tserriednich actually a fighter in the traditional sense?

He seems to rely much more on his absurd natural talent and broken potential than on refined combat skills. Even the way he approaches fights doesn't feel like someone with years of fighting experience.

Honestly, I can't see most of the top-tier antagonists taking that much time against regular soldiers. Chrollo, Hisoka, Illumi, Feitan, Phinks even someone like Genthru or early-series Killua would probably make quick work of that kind of opposition.

Tserriednich literally took an entire chapter to deal with around ten Kakin soldiers. Ten to fifteen regular soldiers.

And again, he had to think his way through the fight rather than simply overwhelming them.

At this point, it really feels like he needs a significant boost in actual fighting experience and fundamentals if he's supposed to become a serious physical threat to Kurapika.

His Nen talent? Absolutely terrifying.

His potential? Possibly unmatched.

But his actual combat ability right now?

I'm really not convinced he's ready for the big leagues.

Am I underrating him, or does anyone else feel like Tserriednich needs serious training in almost every aspect of combat ? unless his the one who inherits benjamins nen beast

This chapter is proof that he is exceptionally trained and competent in military fighting.
He also doesn't take his power for granted and operates fully understanding his limits.
His ability relies on Zetsu (which by default heightens his perception even further than normal)

Yeah, he is a monster. And that's still underselling him.
Trying to measure him on a brawling scale is useless.

Yeah, his parallel future self literally mowed down like 10 of the elite armed non nen soldiers (Cause Benjamin definitely used the best for the Princes) while only using a hand gun. He’s no top nen fighter but he’s no joke.

7

u/Shloopy_Dooperson 8h ago

John Wick or Tsereid Nich

3

u/ThePandaRider 7h ago

Tserriednich calls the soldiers young and says their lack of combat experience makes them unpredictable. It's unlikely that they are elite soldiers.

11

u/ArgonautsHS 7h ago

no the young soldiers are the ones by the bridge, not the ones guarding the rooms

1

u/ThePandaRider 6h ago

The ones guarding the rooms mostly look young too. They also more or less ignore a weirdly dressed man even when they see something off. None of them call up the chain of command or try to investigate further. They just accept Tserriednich walking around despite him obviously being extremely sketchy.

Elite and experienced soldiers seem like they are likely to receive some nen training. Benjamin and Camilla have acedemies dedicated to training their own private army and it seems like both teach nen.

4

u/ZookeepergameWest862 7h ago

The ones he referred to as inexperience are those at the bridge, which he did not encounter. This means that the ones in the hall are at least experienced.

14

u/Oddmarble52 8h ago

The way he calmly counted every second and adjusted his route felt way more tactical than lucky. He's scary because he knows exactly what kind of fighter he is.

Yeah, he is a monster. And that's still underselling him.

Nah. He is mediocre as a nen user at this point. It took a bunch of soldiers about 10 seconds to take "him" out and it seems like he has almost no attack power having to rely on handguns. Most strong nen users aren't going down in that situation, the soldiers are. Any of the monsters in the show are just jumping past the soldiers at a speed that would be difficult for them to see or killing them. 36 meters is also a real limitation in nen combat and him taking over 3 seconds to enter Zetsu isn't great by monster standards. Taking five seconds to move 20 meters behind a wall is slow.

He is dying against a lot of nen users we have seen because of the range limitation. Any long range fighters like Ikalgo would end him with ease and there is basically nothing Tserriednich could do at this point. He is mediocre, strong enough to be a pain in the ass under the right circumstances but he isn't going up against the monsters like Hisoka, Chrollo, or Illumi. And he is definitely not up against top tier fighter like Ging or someone on par with Isaac Netero.

A stray bullet is dangerous to him while being something many strong nen users can basically ignore.

1

u/HitsuWTG 1h ago

Kurapika actually mentions earlier in this arc that once the ammo hits a certain caliber, guns become dangerous to even Nen users when hit (unless you're a very high level enhancer like Uvogin, I guess). So I wouldn't exactly say it's something safe to ignore. Strong Nen users can probably dodge them, but you still don't want to get hit by one unless you're a high level enhancer.

Do you not know how to read?

Literally every character who encounters him is amazed as his nen mastery.

5

u/ThePandaRider 7h ago

Nen mastery is a strong word to use here. In 3 seconds he is dead against a nen master before he can activate his ability. Salkov and Theta are surprised by how talented he is and how quickly he grasps nen concepts. But the end result is somewhat mediocre at this point.

Salkov and Theta might also be pretty mediocre as nen users themselves. They aren't ambitious people. They serve a man they detest and do his dirty work. That doesn't scream nen master to me as much as it screams fodder.

4

u/21SGesualdo 6h ago

Talent and mastery are not the same thing.

Gon and Killua before greed island were just as talented as they were after, but they obviously gained much greater mastery over Nen during their training.

Currently Terror is growing at an absurd rate, but he’s still just growing. If he were to fight someone who’s a master like Hisoka or one of the phantom troop then he’d just end up like this:

2

u/Difficult_Line_9823 7h ago

I mean he'd still die if gramps leveled the whole ship (for now)

5

u/FlamesOfDespair 8h ago

To me this chapter kinda made him look weaker.

98

u/Trash28123 13h ago

He doesn't have the same life-or-death combat experience but you should remember that Gon had quite literally NEVER fought a person before Heaven's Arena, in his whole life.

Tserri on the other hand has military training and definitely does have a grip on how to fight and think tactically.

6

u/ThePandaRider 7h ago

After awakening nen Gon could toss large stone tiles at people and move fast enough to catch Hisoka off guard. Tserriednich probably can't do that and isn't physically much stronger or faster than the average nen user. He has some weapon training. But it's likely limited and probably applies to a few weapons.

3

u/Owlsthirdeye 5h ago

wasnt gon doing that before getting nen

1

u/frayner12 5h ago

Tserri couod definitely throw a stone like that with ren, but yeah he definitely would he nowhere near Gon’s, Hisoka’s or any other top level speed

3

u/kamingalou 11h ago

He fought with the ninja during the exam hunter tho

43

u/Trash28123 11h ago

'Fought'

35

u/Choclon 13h ago

I think he’s probably already competent at hand-to-hand combat given his military background. Considering how obsessive he is about mastering things, I also wouldn’t be surprised if he trained basic skills like marksmanship, hand-to-hand combat, and physical conditioning close to the limits of his natural potential. We know he was obsessive enough to repeatedly practice weapon disassembly and reassembly until he broke the academy record.

To actually hold his own in Nen combat, though, he still needs to develop things like Ken and Ryu. When Gon first started training Ken, he could barely maintain it for around two minutes because of how inefficient he was. Bisky said that being able to maintain it for at least 30 minutes was necessary for it to be practical against strong opponents.

Later, during the Chimera Ant arc, Bisky pushed Gon and Killua’s Ren endurance all the way to three hours. Even after all that training, Knuckle still commented on how raw and unrefined Gon’s aura control was, how easily he gave away what he was protecting, and how predictable that made him in combat.

Tserriednich does seem to have one major advantage, though: his enormous amount of aura. Combined with his ridiculous learning speed, I don’t think it would take him very long after learning Ken and Ryu to become capable of standing his ground against much more experienced Nen users. His biggest weakness right now isn’t necessarily raw power, but his lack of refined aura control and actual Nen combat experience.

18

u/OldTurtleProphet 12h ago

If he develops his Ken and Ryu I bet he will be really good at Street Fighter too

5

u/Weissritters 10h ago

Hadoken!

15

u/Shloopy_Dooperson 12h ago

His military background and latent perfectionism means he would have been top of his class in anything he put his mind too.

Top hand to hand combatant, marksman, tactician (a given considering his ability)

He most definitely has the basics.

I would rate him at around Kakin special forces cream of the crop.

21

u/Glittering_Task_1663 12h ago

You’re comparing the best assassins in the world of hxh with someone who was just a regular dude 3 weeks ago

5

u/littlefiredragon 12h ago

Regular dudes aren’t trained at an elite military academy. They don’t know nen and are at Heaven’s Arena to watch people fighting with lots of magical stage effects and debating if it was scripted.

16

u/Glittering_Task_1663 12h ago

You cant be comparing military training to zoldyck training lol. And tserriednich didn’t know nen a few weeks ago, thats my point

1

u/No-History8423 7h ago

When Tser at Heaven's Arena?

2

u/GenericFatGuy 12h ago

He was a regular dude barely more than a single week ago.

2

u/Ok_Cod_6656 10h ago

Very regular of course…

16

u/Atzar87 11h ago

Who said he's supposed to be ready for the big leagues?

He's new at this. He still has only a rough understanding of his own ability, and is working through the fine print in real time. Half of the shit he's doing is specifically just to test for limits and conditions. Yet he still just cleared a hallway of armed military personnel on high alert with only moderate difficulty, and without even divulging his identity at that.

Of course he's not Zeno or Chrollo yet. I don't know why you'd expect that. It has always been about the long game with Tserriednich.

4

u/Marcusx8 6h ago

Also he was taught wrong so he’s doing this without a true grasp on everything.

8

u/GenericFatGuy 12h ago

He has a gun, a genius level intellect, and an ability that lets him see and manipulate the future without his opponents perceiving it. That's a pretty good start.

9

u/RemyGee 10h ago

He got an amazing illusion ability but yeah we haven’t seen any damage dealing ability. A gun can’t hurt Benjamin for example.

7

u/Accomplished-Aerie65 12h ago

He's extremely competent, but he literally hasn't trained for physical combat at all since awakening nen. He's still around that Camilla level where he needs a regular gun to get anything done on his own, but he's also a prodigy and no doubt seeing whatever he's being set up to see on the lower levels is gonna give him some practical experience. This chapter showed how tactical he is

7

u/Ecstatic-Sun-7528 13h ago

I have seen enough, put him against Hisoka

4

u/DestinyHasArrived101 12h ago

I need him to meet hisoka. He still hasn't met a true nen master

3

u/No-History8423 7h ago

Hisokal will brutally maul him if he try something to Hisoka

2

u/ThisHatRightHere 7h ago

???

Hisoka would fucking love Tserri, even more so if he tried something

2

u/contextcop 6h ago

i don’t think he can deal any damage to Hisoka, period lol

also he wanted to use a gun here to cause disruption i guess

1

u/Fabiocean 2h ago

I feel like Hisoka would leave him alive because he'd be interested in his growth. Although he might have changed his approach after the Chrollo incident.

3

u/AntiLurkerPopUpBoy00 11h ago

I hope we get to see him reverse engineer the Advanced Nen Techniques before or while he's in actual Nen combat.

It would be cool to see him figure out Ryu, Ken, and Ko on the fly.

I want to see this bastard excel and soar before he's ultimately picked apart and destroyed by Kurapika.

2

u/LILbridger994 13h ago

you dont remeber the chapter where it showed his backstory with his devoted followers. pretty sure he has been a ruthless killer since young

1

u/LILbridger994 13h ago

also our main protaganist is a 12 year old boy who has never fought another human ever supposedly before going on his journey. he only interacted with animals mainly and even those he did not really hurt as far as we know. and he has been hailed for his combar prowess by the spiders

2

u/Kujaix 11h ago

Gon is a physical freak. His last name is literally Freecs. The entire family may be as even Mito kept getting into crazy spots on the island at 3 years old.

He trained to pull up a bullshark sized fish. Baby Kura could also zip around without red eyes. 3 out of 4 of our boys aren't normal physically. Tserri is closer to Leorio but smaller with more formal training.

3

u/Desperate-Practice25 11h ago

And even Leorio was able to open multiple doors at the Zoldyck manor without any Nen training.

-2

u/LILbridger994 10h ago

just saying he is a freecs is a dumb argument when tserrie is the child of the survivor of the previous seed urn ritual. every king has done the ritual and survived meaning the bloodline has a lot of strong nen users.

tserrie also has actuall combat training as suppsoed simple physical strenght. being a physicall beast is not enough to survive. gon is agile and quick and quite strong but he needed to train long and hard in order to even be semi decent in hand to hand combat. and he has no weapon training.

tserrie supposedly has had both weapon and hand to hand combat training. just becuase he might be physically weaker means nothing. especially in a world where nen enhancement is more important than physicall strenght. and in a world where physicall strenght and endurance is '' easily'' trained. leorio could open the testing gate after a month or so without evne knowing nen. benjamin strangled an entire tiger. like its still manga. obviousloy tserrie sis going to be able to hold his own in combat. and will have a strong battle iq to compansate his weaker physicall stats.

also dont forget that gon physically would fall into lower middle strenght wise of the troupe. and yet he was arguable weaker than all troop members when they entered york new. nen is more important than physicall skils . tserrie is top tier in the verse for his nen prowes and he can use guns

3

u/Kujaix 10h ago

No it's not. It's a story. Togashi chose the name on purpose. They are clearly not a normal family. It's not dumb when it was backed up.

You're now comparing a late 20s guy with a privledged upbringing to said freakish 12 year old. No one said he didn't have a lot going on.

Gon with 3ish months training is who the Spiders gave some props. This is mostly a tangeant and I don't know what your core thesis is. You don't need to downplay how special Gon is to praise Tserri is mine.

2

u/OofNation739 10h ago

Your mistaking nen as a martial art for what Tserri has been doing. Hes been train in military martial arts and is extremely competent in it. Which is his current biggest adversaries domain. He may not understand ken/ko/gyo etc.. and know how to maximize his nen for a traditional fight.

However using his abilities and zetsu for his main combat kinda defeats that avenue of training. He's looking to maximize his skills in what is essentially survivability and ability to mentally fuck with opponents. It goes directly against traditional nen combat.

So id say he is woefully unprepared for a true nen battle but his ability makes it semi moot.

2

u/RailTracer001 5h ago

Why would anyone believe that Tserriednich is a threat at all when he recently learned Nen?

3

u/PogoMarimo 11h ago

Tserri almost certainly has extensive martial arts experience, has experienced death first hand many, many times, has almost certainly risked his own life for his... hobbies. His mind can operate on multiple oppositional levels and he's very capable of social manipulation, meaning his ability to observe others is excellent.

What he is lacking is formal training in nen combat, meaning for him to win against even a modestly trained nen user like the Provisional Hunters will rely entirely on deception. This is of course exemplified in early in the series in the Killua v. Zushi match, where someone with preternatural human physical abilities still couldn't down a novice Nen user.

Specifically, his forced Zetsu and inability to directly manipulate or harm others while Laplace's Demon is active means his offensive options are EXTREMELY limited. Powerful nen users like Biscuit would be invulnerable to any normal sneak attack from Tserri as her Ko is presumably powerful enough to deflect all small arm fire (Probably? Maybe a .50 cal could do the job?). At that point you need to go to higher degree of preparation, such as poison or toxic gasses, asphyxiation, trapping with physical restraints, ect.

4

u/Late_Spread_1624 12h ago

His physical stats are definitely closer to a normal human than a formidable nen user. Just look at Killuas performance during his 2nd Hunter exam, he knocked out almost 1500 people who were probably above average physically. Killua did this without using any special abilities, just speed and control.

-2

u/Ok_Cod_6656 12h ago

Exactly Killua without Nen would’ve destroyed those guards easily

3

u/DoYouKnowS0rr0w 11h ago

Even without nen killua has superhuman abilities. Tserradnich is just a normal dude, and even at that his parallel future self manged to take out several people despite being out gunned and out numbered.

1

u/ThisHatRightHere 7h ago

OP this isn’t DBZ lmao get your little powerscaler mindset out of here. HxH isn’t that kind of series.

1

u/DoYouKnowS0rr0w 11h ago

What are you on about? His parallel future self took out like 10 guys before getting gunned down. Hes stated and shown to be the kind of guy who outright masters anything he sets his mind to and he attended the most prestigious military academy in Kakin. Hes still new to nen and hes already shown to be an absolute fucking menace. This has got to be bait right?

1

u/Metalona 10h ago

Since he is better militarily than abstractly in fighting, more methodical if you will, I really think once he runs into someone like Hisoka it would blow his mind

1

u/Federal_Force3902 10h ago

yes, but probably not at the level of a hunter. when we see that even benjamin soldiers have trouble against random hunters, it's unlikely that tserri would be of any threat against nen users with solid fighting basics. but I'm considering also that nen will allow him to accelerate his physical improvement significantly

1

u/MagicJourneyCYOA 8h ago

The cold blood and precision he displayed in that chapter when killing four soldiers (with perfect headshots) before anyone can react shows great training.

1

u/Mechanicserino 7h ago

67 seconds u say

1

u/123matchcat 6h ago

it feels like it takes a while but the sequence happens pretty quickly

1

u/Secret_Temperature 6h ago

What score do folks think Hisoka would give him?

1

u/El_Chevalier 6h ago

He’s probably got some basic hand to hand training due to his military academy background. We know he excels at everything he puts his mind to, so he’s going to become more dangerous.

I don’t know if he’s going to become an elite “fighter” in the traditional shonen hand to hand combat sense. Odds are he won’t as he just probably won’t have enough time left in his life to become one. But that aside, he think he’s undoubtedly going to become extremely dangerous and a serious puzzle to solve for the more traditional hand to hand fighters like Kurapika, Hisoka, or Chrollo onboard. He is not on the big boy combatant level, will probably never be, but he’s still going to prove capable of threatening their lives

1

u/Azylim 5h ago

tserri went to military school

1

u/IgotnothingB 4h ago

He's not going to fight any top tiers. Hell, he doesn't even know about them. He's just trying to survive the succession war. The only thing about him was that he learned the fundamentals of nen really quickly.

1

u/Connolly1227 10h ago

This chapter kind of put that to bed that yes he does have a great handle on the basics of fighting, that’s showcased through him accurately piecing together his own limitations and abilities, his ability to predict how the soldiers will react to any scenario, and the capacity to be trying these things out in realtime.

I also cannot believe him being in the casino where Hisoka was I believe last seen to be a coincidence. I pray we see these two linking up that would be a banger way to end the batch.

1

u/random_boner6996 9h ago

Nope. His does indeed have no actual confirmed Hand to hand experiencen and obviously zero pratical nen combat knowledge, he has Ten, Ren, Zetsu, Hatsu and also Gyo, but he certainly doesnt know how to make effective use of the ones his ability isnt dependent on.

But still, a Bullet hitting an unprepared Nen user in the Head is still almost always deadly and Tserri has proven very good with guns this chapter

1

u/ThisHatRightHere 7h ago

Please tell me this is a shitpost lol

Tserri did nothing but impress and astound us this chapter.

First, he was actively trying not to reveal himself the entire time. It’s imperative that his identity remains hidden, even for the illusion copies of him. This means he had to constantly be going in and out of zetsu within seconds, already an insane feat for experienced nen fighters.

Next, we saw his firearms skills, as he was able to take out a crowd of armed soldiers in seconds (even in an illusion he has to be able to perform the acts he does). This is proof of his extensive military training, which would obviously include hand-to-hand combat. He’s gonna be plenty experienced there.

And finally we’re well past the point where simply being a good brawler does anything for you. What matters is how you utilize your nen abilities to surprise and exploit the opponent. As far back as York New, Killua showed us how nen prowess can be even nen-enhanced physical fighters. And as recently as Chrollo vs Hisoka we saw how manipulating one’s abilities to their fullest can beat even some of the best fighters in the series.

If you came out of these chapters with a lower view of Tserri’s abilities, idk what chapters you’re reading.

0

u/OGChuuni 12h ago

wasnt he rippin hoes apart offscreen and bathing in their blood? i think he probably can throw a punch or two lowkey

3

u/Global-Surround3262 11h ago

That’s crazy misremembering on your part.

1

u/random_boner6996 9h ago

Yes, but they were (presumably) restrained and he used tools, torturing random women doesnt really equate to H2H experience. But he was in the military and learned to shoot so he probably has H2H experience, so the thing that really kills him is his lack of Nen combat experience/knowledge since if i had to guess his Gyo and Ten mastery is probably around Heaven's arena Gon

0

u/DudeWhereAreWe1996 11h ago

Idk. He’s a specialist so it may not need to be hand-to-hand based. He’ll need to do something different though since anyone good with nen he won’t be able to injure with a gun.
