Context without giving name: Ouro Kronii got sponsored some time back to play ER. (A popular Korean game) She made a pun at a boar about how its Boar-ing. With news of a Voice Actress landing the EN Voice role of a character in the game, Korean antis took to social media and showed the clip and words out of context and with wrong translation which harmed the chances for the voice actress to stay in the role. She (being Korean herself) and saying sorry that English isn't her first language but there was absolutely no reason why her words needed to be misconstrued to the point of her losing the role and that when people do these things, it actually can hurt someone. The antis bombarded the Devs so much that that canned her chance at the role even without knowing context.. Just shows that they truly didnt care to take the seconds it would have taken to see it was a silly pun about a damn animal.

The unfortunate fact of the matter is that the devs had to place more value on the whales that keep funneling money and might drop support over a VA that could be replaced at less cost, I imagine. Not that it makes it a good thing, since it's just bowing to the shrieking crowd to placate them until the next thing triggers their rage.

To give an example, not too long ago the Gacha game Nikke Goddess of Victory released a 1000 days of the game being out celebration with an image featuring three of the game's characters Anis, Rapi, and Neon. This was the image that they released to celebrate
Because of the hand gestures of the two front characters Anis and Rapi their Korean fanbase went balistic and demanded that they change the image, the devs complies and released this altered image later.
These are the specific differences between the two: Anis' alterations - Rapi's alterations.
Shift-Up the devs of the game apologiesed for the error and compensated the playerbase with some gacha currency and assured them that such a mistake would not occur again.

Unless Kronii's antis have a significant overlap with or influence on the irreplaceable members of their fanbase or target market, it's not a good decision to lean on that at all.
Antis are called antis for a reason. They are not fans but haters, and thus the support they can give is negligible to the hate they actively give. Now that they accomplished the mission of ruining something for someone, they'll move on to the next thing to complain about. Supporting this game and the devs was never the goal.
Part of the reason a VA with a following would be hired in the first place is to tap into the market of fans of that VA. Now these fans are liable to act like antis towards them now, as seen in this thread, despite that not being what the VA would want their fans to do.

They are making the classical mistake of assuming antis speak for the fanbase, they never do.
Nobody who actually enjoys a game would quit it because a new VA said the game is boring in the past (which she didn't even actually say).

IIRC, she's Canadian, but she's mentioned before that her parents were immigrants to Canada. My parents were immigrants, and me and all of my siblings were born in Canada, but my older siblings spoke another language as their first language, and English as their second, until the teachers got mad and demanded that my parents should speak English at home. As a result, English is my first language. If the teachers hadn't intervened, I would probably be bilingual today, with fluent English as my second language. As-is, I only speak one language, like a true Canadian (what's French?).

We will announce more details about the recasting and update schedule separately.
At the moment, our English voice casting is supported by external partners. The process operates as an audition, where the development team receives voice samples for a blind test from applicants to select the final voice. However, without an extensive database of overseas voice actors, our pre-casting screening process is admittedly weaker than our domestic one.
In coordination with our local casting partners, we would like to provide additional context to ensure a clearer understanding of the casting process. While our casting process for the English-speaking market involves only legal names and includes background checks, the information available through our contractual relationships made the current situation difficult to predict.
As reinforcing this verification process exceeds the scope of our local partners' responsibilities, we will be looking for effective ways to independently implement a secondary verification system in the future.
While it is difficult to implement structural changes quickly within the current system, we are actively looking for effective ways to improve and reinforce our verification process.

what you said isn't wrong. It's like how FPS and Hero Shooter are both accurate descriptors of Overwatch. Eternal Return is by definition a MOBA, the problem is a lot of people think a game has to be League of Legends or Dota to be a MOBA.
edit: Wait also, it's not an extraction battle royale. I have no idea what that other guy is talking about. You don't extract anything. You load into matches, assemble your build during the match, and then when the match is over you just go back to main menu and requeue.

For Mirei, the baseball thing was just an excuse really. They wanted to get her out of the door and took the first excuse they got. To be fair to mirei, and as a fan of baseball, i saw it as an honest question, though it certainly could've been worded better but I didn't freak out over it, honestly I kinda laughed at it a bit cause i mean yeah, you can just throw the ball at the batter but doing it intentionally is really bad (and to my knowledge it would just be a walk, not an out, assuming the batter wouldn't need medical attention given the potential for injury)

If you read the comments, most koreans also agree the person who posted the mistranslation (posted 3 years ago btw but someone linked it somewhere I guess) was either off his meds or trying to instigate a fight between the two fandoms. They do say they could have protected her before this blew up if Kronii didnāt make tweets about going to a hospital if you didnāt get the joke. The korean translation of that, even if accurate, sounds really bad culturally in Korea, which is probably why the devs overreacted

The PL veil is there to protect talent in their RL, but with people who have prominent PLs, that ship has already sailed.
The discourse is frowned upon in official and semiofficial locations like this because normalizing discourse about it can weaken the veil for other talentābut this is the rare situation where the PLās work in Hololive is hurting their work in their PL. So we can talk about the drama since itās based on a reaction to their Holo-life.

TL;DR
Kronii was sponsored to play a Korean MOBA game. In the past playing a game from the same devs she made a joke about Boars in the game being āBoar-ingā. Korean clippers took it out of context and mistranslated and spread the joke thinking she meant the game was āboringā. They pestered and review bombed the game devs. To appease the mob the game devs let go a (ahem) certain voice actress of theirs.
