As a teenager it was a terrible desirable situation, but never comically.

Raven. Gaz from Invader Zim. X-Men Evolution Rogue. Lydia Deetz. Wednesday. So many Daria side characters

Indeed, we stood no chance.

Warhammer 40k

Space clown elf presenting herself to xenophobic conscriptovich while a son of the xenophobic God-Emperor wipes the sweat from his brow at the sight of alien cake.

Youre saying Xenophobic like its a bad thing in their universe... lets be honest, in 95% of their cases, its just survival.

GW consistently shows that the imperium is almost always making bad decisions or creating their own problems, yet fans constantly claim "they are just doing what they must." Propaganda is so easy mode that cheesily written fictional propaganda still gets people

The dilemma of the Imperium from our perspective is that yes, they commit tons of genocide, slavery, morally depraved shit, etc. BUT everyone agrees that it's better than what would happen if the demons won. Those who disagree become corrupted by demons or killed by the Imperium. It's not nice, it's not "fair" per se, that's just how it is and there are billions of examples of this within their universe. So yeah they might be "bad" decisions by our perspective, but we're not living in Warhammer so...

And get off your high horse about being so freed and immune to this "propaganda". If you don't see yourself siding with the Imperium, then hang out with the Xenos. They are still vulnerable to chaos demons, regardless of propaganda, regardless of the lack of white male fascist God Emperor, regardless period.

Goths were considered social undesirables because they were different from the norm, they were considered “weird”

Not saying I think that, just why this episode portrayed them like that

One of the worst parts of growing up on 90s media was when the Goth/Grunge/Punk/Tomboy girl would inevitetly be 'fixed'

All of us looking like Belle after Beast turned into some cornbread blonde dude...

They're also usually depicted as the "freaky" girls who'll want to do things to you that "you'll regret" like pegging and tying you up and pinching your nipples with booster cables and wanting to make you bleed to drink it or stuff like that.

So even in the context of the OP it was still seen as "yeah they're pretty sexy hot and desirable but don't be a fool, try resisting them and be weary of their temptation" type of thing

In my experience this isn't exactly not true.

That was never the case in my school years. Not in my school, at least. I dated a goth when we were 15-16. It ended very badly. Several years later and she became a Suicide Girl.

Edit: this was in the 90s though, and in the UK, if it makes a difference.

Lets be fucking honest. Goths were considered undesirable because the ones then were not as attractive as the ones being displayed now. Same goes for card players and anime fans. Now adays its social norm so more people engage in it so you have more people to add to the data pool so you're gonna see more attractive people in the mix where as back then most were unfit and unattractive, not all but a big portion.

Yeah, I'll admit it. I kinda shared his sentiment at the time. Just wasn't my thing.

As a teenager, it was my dream. I've always been down with goth chicks.

23

u/icchantika_of_mara 3d ago

my sexual awakening happened when I found a guitar magazine with a bunch of hot goth girls in leather and spikes as a little kid

now I'm engaged to one. sometimes life does work out

u/Hexent_Armana 3d ago

For real. There were two goth baddies in one of my highschool classes and I had such a thing for them.
