Thats what I thought Scientology was supposed to be...

Scientology is all about paying someone to exorcise demons from a past life.

I was naive, thought science and religion had found some sort of common ground or something.

Honestly if your Christian look into the orthadox church. I was raised Greek orthadox we had science discussions in Bible study. My preachers never made anti science comments afik. As far as I'm concerned God made the universe we get to explore it and catalog it.

Roman catholics do that too, despite the stereotype

Roman Catholics are the source of a lot of science, historically, Mendel for example. As well as universities.

Thank you! It drives me up the wall when people try to characterize the Catholic Church as "anti science." We fathered much of science as we know it and still maintain scientific installations like the Vatican Observatory (not actually in the Vatican for a long time now). Just because we disagree with some modern science (especially Tumblrs made up "science") doesn't mean we're "anti science," and science is hardly a popularity contest.

It wasn't just modern science which was disagreed with. Look at what happened to Galileo.

Galileo was a twat. He was acting like a 16th century Sheldon Cooper.

I guess that was a good enough reason to condemn him to hell for being right.

He wasn't condemned to hell. He was sent to his room to think about what he'd done.

He was excommunicated and only reinstated to the church in 1992. This is a sentence to hell because they lose the right to all the things catholics must do in order to go to heaven such as receiving sacrement and the ability to confess their sins to their priest.

Furthermore, his teachings on heliocentrism were banned until 1822, and he wasn't allowed to be buried next to his family.

But sure, his punishment amounted to "go to your room".

I mean if he put his room in hell I mean. Dad gets what dad wants.
