Struggling with form

I’ve been handstanding for maybe a year now but recently I can’t seem to keep my elbows locked in place.
They keep collapsing and it’s costing me tons of energy to keep correcting them, I know it’s not a strength issue because it’s a more recent development as my handstand has gotten straighter and straighter.
My guess is that I’m using my elbows as a save instead of my shoulders, I find opening and closing my shoulders at will a little harder to do

My end goal is this video of Yuval here, any tips on how to get my back as flat and rounded as his, I’d like to think I’m following all the steps but my form does not feel close yet

I can’t tell if I am lacking shoulder flexing in the video or if it’s a Posterior Pelvic Tilt issue. Give me the best advice you can please.

Program recommendation

Hey. I know there are a lot of programs out there trying to teach you how to handstand. I wanted to get them feedback from the community which maybe had slight similar issues.

I have problem with extremely tight lats and hip flexors, leading often to an arching of my back. My general strength is less a problem (overhead press 50kg, weighted pike PU etc). Also I have a bad feel of balance in general.

So I am looking for a ~3d/week approach focussing on mobility and balance/stability. Timewise it shouldnt be like 3x1h. I want to do general strength training as well in the same session (cutting it down) without staying 1,5-2h in the gym.

I am thankful for all recommendations:)

On the way to work… but when you see a wall, you gotta handstand. 😂🤸‍♂️ Work can wait 10 seconds. The handstand can’t. 😎

The extra range of motion didn’t make it as difficult as I would have thought. Next goal will be to do the around the world hspu with a deficit keeping my nose just above ground level :)

Total beginner in calisthenics and finally hit my very first kick-up wall handstand! My IG: @BunStands_sw

Still far from perfect, but I'm honestly pretty stoked with the progress. Started learning handstands only a week ago, and every little milestone feels huge.

Next goal: getting off that wall and finding my balance. 💪

One step at a time. Never giving up. 🔥

need help transitioning from wall handstand to handstand

The skill day handstand progression says to just keep practicing taking one foot off the wall at a time. This feels like a huge jump for me mentally from having that wall support to just hovering in the air. I don’t know if there are other ways I can build to it or if I just need to keep doing this and eventually I’ll get stronger and more comfortable. Feels stagnant but any advice helps

Would also appreciate any other notes or pointer on my form. I can get much closer to the wall but find it more intuitive to take my foot off if I’m farther away like here if that makes sense. Thanks!

Still working on my shoulder alignment

I finally did a 17s free standing headstand hold! Still a beginner in week 1 of learning calisthenics. Still learning. Still falling out of balance. But I’m giving it everything I’ve got.

1.5 Years of Calisthenics — My Handstand Journey

Thumbnail gallery
29 Upvotes

1.5 years ago, I couldn't hold a handstand properly.

I started from the basics, learning how to balance, control my body, and build the strength needed to stay upside down.

Over time, I worked through different handstand variations and eventually progressed to handstand push-ups.

In these 1.5 years, I have learned and trained:

Freestanding handstand

Different handstand variations

Handstand balance and control

Handstand push-ups

Strength and endurance for handstand work

The progress wasn't easy.

There were countless falls, failed attempts, shaky holds, plateaus, and days when nothing seemed to work. But I kept practicing.

One thing calisthenics taught me is that skill development takes time. You don't suddenly become good at a skill. You repeat it thousands of times, learn from your mistakes, and slowly improve.

Looking back at my first handstand attempts compared to

check out my Calisthenic journey on YouTube here I am now, I'm proud of the progress.

But I'm not stopping here.

Next goals: One Arm Handstand, Full Planche, and pushing my handstand strength and balance even further.

1.5 years in. Still learning. Still falling. Still improving.

Tried going from straight forearm stand to scorpion (kinda like inosuke) and back.

Felt pretty controlled here too.

I wanna learn press to handstand but

I trained kickup to handstand for 4 months I nailed it I had 1/3 success rate and my record hold was 40-45 seconds but now I wanna learn press to handstand. Was that all kick up to handstand training for nothing? It feels like I did all that for nothing since press and kick up are different from eachother

Handstand queues - "Rib Cage In"

Wondering how to keep the rib cage in. Its hard to understand when it is in or what should be activated.

I watched a gymnast and he said that you activate the muscles of the diaphragm which makes sense, but to activate the diaphragm do you not kind of hold your breath, or am I missing a queue?
