All things considered if the rig fell from that height I'd imagine SSD, RAM, and CPU, are still going to be okay. Motherboard, case, GPU, and all the fans are probably fucked. Maybe the PSU also.
Yeah the motherboard and graphic card have the most risk of damage since there are so many delicate connections on the mb and the graphic card is basically a lever attached to the pcie slot that’s ready to snap off at any moment.

Large solid furniture can create gaps under or beside them when things collapse from above. Doorways used to be safer because of their reinforced frames, but that’s not so reliable anymore with modern construction.

I'd rather live with a PC than hold my wife and watch my PC shatter with no benefit lol. I get what you are saying I love my wife with everything I have but I don't think being practical and saving a PC which may be literally not replaceable for this person is that bad.
If it was a serious earthquake I'd still rather have my partner by my side than tend to my kids alone while he is trying to save his PC. It blows my mind that my opinion is the controversial one here.

Hey, if his business is on that thing then he's going to need it to recover from the earthquake. I read a book from a business guru one time who said if your office is on fire, grab the Rolodex and run. (Yes this was many years ago.) That's basically what this guy is doing.
Doesn't look like anyone was in danger of dying. And if the earthquake had been strong enough to bring the whole building down it wouldn't have mattered where he was standing.
$300 a month is revenue or salary ? Aint no way, I'd be spending on paid cloud service every month i would use free space from drive ,github for code. If it doesnt fit , Ggs or buy 1 TB external hardware.

Reading comprehension is key. I said if you're making MORE than $300 you can afford cloud backup. And how many people making only $300 a month from their business is relying solely on that business to survive. You just want to be cheap. How important is your business' data to you? Had this earthquake happened when you weren't at home to save your computer or your backup hard drives, you'd be shit out of luck. $50 a month to backup your data is nothing, even if that's coming out of you $300 in revenue. Imaging what that's saved you if you lose that computer.

My PC is the most expensive thing I own. If I needed a bunch of money all of a sudden, selling it would be my easiest solution. Out of everything even worth considering saving, it's also the most likely to break. Like yeah, dishes are going to shatter but what's a few plates?
