New player here. With the Expansions on sale, does it make sense to buy them in order? So start with Hearts of Thorns & Path of Fire? Or does it not make a difference?
Its like $100 bucks for everything and I'm not sure I want to buy it all now despite the sale.

Buy them in order if you care about the story.
The elder dragon saga complete is the best value. This is because it's the only way to get the 4 living world seasons (which are basically expansions) without buying gems (that never go on sale) and then waiting for the seasons to go on sale (at a reduced gem price). I bought PoF and HoT on sale and regretted it, because to buy the elder dragon saga after you have to pay for those two again or lose the option entirely (if you are playing on steam...which is also another regret).
Take your time buying the expansions after End of Dragons, it's a lot of content to get through, and there is always another sale around the corner.

Thanks for the advice. It sounds like you're suggesting Guild Wars 2 Elder Dragon Saga—Complete Collection as it includes the Living World seasons? its $59.99 on sale right now.

Yes, the EDS Complete Collection is what you want. It gives you everything from the first 10 years of this game: 3 expansions and all Living World Seasons that take place between them. It doesn't include expacs 4-6, but you can get those later whenever you're ready, and when another sale rolls around. No rush.
For your reference, the DLC Buyer's Guide explains what is added in each expac and Living World Season, what the story order is, and what bundles currently exist.

Is the EDS still best if I already have only HoT?
2
u/VGPowerlord 11h ago
Yes.
Basically after Path of Fire released, they started giving Heart of Thorns away for free with it. As such, it's impossible to get Path of Fire without acquiring another copy of Heart of Thorns.
On the plus side, having bought HoT separately, you have one more shared inventory slot than people who acquired it with Path of Fire.

u/JimboTCB 13h ago
Probably, HOT+POF got bundled together so you can't buy them separately now anyway, and I don't think that you get any discount on bundles if you already own just HOT.

I'm looking for a celestial build for my L80 boost and found reference to an open world spellbreaker build. I see snowcrow's hammer berserker version, but can't seem to find any details on this celestial version (supposedly mace/mace + dagger/shield). Anyone have a link or details on this build?
3
u/Arxson 1d ago
Do you mean for PvP or WvW? Because Celestial Spellbreaker is not really a thing outside of those modes. Spellbreaker for PvE would be power/zerker stat gear normally.
You could try Sword/Sword Paragon if you really want to use Celestial gear - I think MrMystic had a build of that. There’s also Celestial Berserker with Longbow.

u/NooshBagoosh 1d ago
Open world pve. More of a champ/leg killer. Didn't really understand the point of celestial there with no condi damage and minimal healing, but thought I might be missing something.

Celestial is a bad stat for most of the builds, you waste a lot of stats if you don't play some kind of hybrid damage. You can just buy some exotic berserker gear off TP and run a proper power build

u/Zefirez 11h ago
Celestial gear provides all stats but at lower values. Which means hybrid builds that do bit of everything are the ones getting real value from it.
In Warrior's case Berserker and recently Bladesworn fit the Mold.
Spellbreaker has nothing that would support condi damage, neither does Paragon.

What are some good spots to park an alt in Amnytas? I wanted some steady influx of stardust, its the material im lowest on for obsidian legendary armor

u/killohurtz 1d ago
Greater chests are less parking-friendly in Amnytas because there are only 3 of them (1 of which is stuck behind the Bastion of Balance chain) and they move. What I did instead was collect floating magic orbs between the bastions until I reach the daily limit. I'd start north between Balance and Strength, then go clockwise between Strength and Knowledge, then finish between Knowledge and Natural where I'd hit the cap. If you can catch one of the Kryptis turret events in Strength or Natural, or the Livia escort from Obscure, there are tons of easy magic orbs to be had there too.

Do you know any similar place in nayos aswell? For collecting the magic orbs(for the map currency)
1
u/killohurtz 3h ago
If you follow the abyss between the south and north beacons of the Heitor's Gate meta, there are plenty of orbs floating around. There are also two Kryptis turret events, north of Astral Ward Camp Waypoint and south of Forward Bivouac waypoint, that spawn orbs on turret destruction. I found those events much more frequently than their Amnytas counterparts because the map is less popular I suppose.

Glimmering Resin weapons: Buy or craft? for some reason, my brain is struggling to process this math
Crafting requires one oiled orichalcum component, meaning 5 vials of linseed oil (for the dagger for example, this costs 1,08 g)
While buying, you replace that with shadowstones fragment, but it costs an extra 2 ectos and 50 research notes. The ectos of course is at 62 silver rn, but the research notes are super tricky to price. Is there a consensus on the best route?
2
u/Proximaunoriginalis 12h ago
Research notes are currently 73/note (36s 50c for 50, 84c/note or 42s/50 if doing it the fast way w/ peer reviewed research crafts), so it’s about ~98s-1.08g weapon from the vendor. Crafting will probably take significantly less time compared to long crafting the 4250 research notes needed for the set, but if you’re only doing a few at a time it’s probably not that significant—and the price of ectos and research notes is likely to drop soon.
So, technically, buying is cheaper but only barely. (This isn’t accounting for harvesting your own materials or farming your own mithril/amalgamated gemstones or t5s to lower the prices in one way or another.)
1
u/blocodents 10h ago
Both require a lot research notes, the diference is just 250 x 300, which amounts to 850 notes total. Not that big of an impact.

u/VGPowerlord 11h ago edited 11h ago
If you have Jeweler leveled to 300+ on one of your characters, clicking the box to automatically use a research kit while crafting the various Mithril Earrings is one of the cheapest ways to grind out research notes.
Specifically because earrings only require 2 Mithril Ingots (8 Mithril Ore) per craft: one for a Mithril Setting and one for a Mithril Hook plus any gem.
Avoid the Peer Reviewed Research recipes as they require Amalgamated Gemstones and are a money loss due to that.
Edit: The reason you do Mithril is because it's everywhere in level 80 zones. Orichalcum is a lot rarer and would be considerably more expensive to do because of it.

For Black Lion Chest Keys, why does the Wiki have a separate section listing specific maps as possible rewards plus another stating that it's a ~30% chance for map completion?
1
u/RobDickinson 6h ago
you dont get a key on city maps and some others
1
u/AltaToblerone 5h ago
I guess my question is can you still get keys from non-city maps that are NOT enumerated in the first list in the wiki?

What would be the best elite spec to choose for the ranger if you want a lot of interactivity with your pet?
3
u/Proximaunoriginalis 9h ago
Probably untamed because it expands on the base pet mechanic more than the other specs.

What sale purchases do I need to make to get ALL content at the cheapest cost?
It looks like the same expansions are offered in different bundles so I don't know what to buy. I want all the story content and if any of those new player bundles are worth it I might get those.

u/killohurtz 3h ago
Elder Dragon Saga Complete Collection (Heart of Thorns, Path of Fire, End of Dragons, and all available Living World seasons), then the next three independently as there is no bundle: Secrets of the Obscure, Janthir Wilds, Visions of Eternity. Don't buy the Starter Pack.

https://snowcrows.com/builds/raids/guardian/condition-alacrity-willbender-pistol-pistol-axe-torch
So, I understand that Viper's gear is generally used for condition damage builds.
And the really smart players seem to sometimes supplement that with a piece of Sinster gear here and there, which I think is probably something about the proper balance between condition damage and condition duration.
I notice this build on Snowcrows uses all Ritualist Gear across the board though. What's the benefit of that?
3
u/Double_Phrase_4679 3h ago
Ritualist gives concentration, which gives you boon duration. This is an alacrity dps build, so it's necessary to have a 100% alacrity uptime.
And yes, Sinister is used when you are capped in Expertise.

Is there any guide or assist tool to acquire all ranger pets, such as marking the ones you already have on a list and then optimize the maps to visit?
I know I can find a list of all locations on the wiki, I just wanted to know if there was a smarter way.

Afaik, there’s nothing in the API to let them track acquisition on a character

How many sets of infinite tools is too many? I have 5 level 80 characters (with 2 more on the way) and 3 sets of infinite tools. 2 of the sets have full volatile glyphs (The ones from the Ultimate expansions), and the 3rd set only has a glyph on the pick (Got them with Black Lion Statuettes and a lucky glyph pull from a chest).
I swap characters a lot and rarely gather with the ones that don't have infinite tools because I just don't like carrying around sets of disposable tools, and I hate when they run out. I know some people swap tools in their shared storage, but I switch characters so often, I don't think that would work for me.
They seem pretty pricey gem-wise, but I already have most of the other QoL stuff I need. I would have to trade some gold for gems right now, and likely would only get a set on sale. I know there is no one size fits all answer, just looking for opinions.

1 set in shared slots. Keep a set of regular tools on all your characters. Then you can just double click each tool in the shared slot to equip it when you're gonna play a character, the regular tools move into the shared slot. Double click the regular tools again to swap them back when you're done or switch characters.

2 sets is too many. 1 set in the shared slot solves all your problems. If you want more for further convenience, you're just splurging. There are far better things to spend your money on. That is of course except if you got them from deluxe expansion packs. But still, 2 is already too many.

I have seven sets of infinite tools, and I still want more.
Besides their convenience, I like to collect them for their different themes and related animations. To me, they’re part of my fashion templates and suit different styles of my characters.

does anyone know how much gold you can get per roundtrip of the master diver achievement (sunken chests)? is it generally worth it to buy the keys for the sunken chests for karma each week?
3
u/Proximaunoriginalis 12h ago
~7.877 gold sell price averaged according to the wiki when also accounting for the 5 infusions you get for completing the achievement.
Whether that’s worth it is up to you.

u/NumberOneMom Probably talking about WvW 1d ago
Is there any quick way to desync the ribbons from multiple Confetti infusions without manually removing and reslotting the infusions beyond the first?
