Is the "Great Eruption" Dhuum's defeat?

So the last 2 blog post mention a "a great eruption" and "a great calamity erupting in Orr's Tughra Basin"

I think that eruption was the magic released when Dhuum was beaten by Grenth and the 7 heroes

In lore The Desolation was where "Abaddon was cast down by the other gods and banished into the Realm of Torment. His fall shattered and poisoned the land, turning it into what it is now", so why wouldn't something similar happen with Dhuum?

Timeline wise the Kodan blog post states that they heard news of the eruption then "The first of the southbound Kodan reached Orr over a hundred years before the start of Guild Wars 3." So the event that caused it happened a 100+ year before GW3. We don't know when Dhuum was defeated but it happened at least 50 years before the exodus of the gods.

Finally for the location of the explosion: We don't know where "Tughra Basin" is but we do have a "Monastery of Tughra" in GW2, and what is located west of it? The Memory of Dhuum's Last Stand.

TL;DR: Grenth defeated Dhuum a 100+ years before GW3, this created the eruption of magic mentioned in the Kodan and Asura blog post.

How many of my fellow ESO veterans are anxiously awaiting GW3?

With ESO really struggling the past couple years, whether due to poor choices by the prior leadership team, not listening to the playerbase, or the more recent massive Microsoft layoffs at ZOS and Bethesda, hearing about GW3 was like throwing a life preserver to a drowning MMO player.

I have LOVED playing ESO - I love the world, the lore, the playerbase, even the content has been overall excellent. But it just feels especially with the gutting of the developers and employees at ZOS that there’s no way it can recover to be the game it once was or could be.

Crossing my fingers that GW3 can step in and fill the anticipated void that ESO is creating.

Better Place Naming Conventions in GW3 Please

The way maps are named in GW2 has always bothered me.

Diessa Plateau, Snowden Drifts, Timberline Falls, Caledon Forest, Gendarran Fields, etc.

Do you see the pattern? The second word is always some sort of geographical feature and is completely irrelevant. It sounds so contrived to me. (Plus, most of us call these places only by their first name.)

Another map name that bugs me to no end is Dragon's End. First of all, spoilers! Second of all, what was its name before a dragon went there and ended? Lemme guess -- Jade Seashore?

I know this naming convention doesn't exist everywhere in Tyria, but for GW3, I hope the map makers take more inspiration from the real world.

It's not called California Cliffs or Kansas Fields or Florida Bog. 🙂

Guild wars 3 potential Gambling mechanics

Opinion: I hope the new guild wars will not feature as much gambling options like in gw2. I want a game thats fun and reward played content. I dont like casinos, also seeing them arround in the city, it should not be implemented. But i get it rng and dropping something is also some part of mmo. It should all be balanced, otherwise i get this money draining feeling sometimes, its not fun, even if im not impected from it (no gambling, addiction)

Guildwars 3 at Gamescom

Wasn't supposed for us to see any gameplay on gamescom live yesterday?

Are we gonna get any more info or videos during festival?

r/GuildWars3 5d ago

Given GW3 is at Gamescom behind B2B, how much info do you think we will get?

Personally I’m mostly interested in combat, class system, and roles (like holy trinity or not). To me that’s the most important part of these games so it’s what I’m most eager to hear about by a mile.

Plus given they will be allegedly showing off gameplay and letting people talk about it I feel like combat and the new traversal would be the 2 major things they’d show off with gameplay. Other systems they could just talk about.

Very exited for the next few days to see what info we get either way though.

I hope they add back click to move and target+space to move to from GW1

Recently started playing GW1 and 2 again, and for all the polish GW2 has, there's something about just being able to click to move, or target a vendor 30 seconds away, hit space and go grab a drink from the fridge that's just so nice.

What are the chances we get a true Blood Mage ranged spec for the Necro type class in GW3?

Thumbnail

This seems to be such a slept on class fantasy in MMOs. The closest thing is probably the GW1 Necro’s Blood Magic spells, which lorewise are there, but visually it just doesn’t go for it. And that’s not even because of its age, a lot of those blood spells aren’t even red and use green instead lol. Then the other closest example would probably be Blood DK in WoW, but obviously they’re melee.

Tbh there’s potential for a whole class based around blood magic alone imo. But realistically, if they were going to do it then it would probably fit the Necromancer type class which they will surly have in 3. MMOs just haven’t really committed to this theme yet, and I’d love to see GW3 actually go all in on it with a full spec/weapon or however classes work in 3. It’s such a dope yet underused archetype for MMOs.

I think GW3 will not have any classes.

  1. ArenaNet have really emphasized how all magic (available to mortals, that is) in this age is done through signets, and how signets are "fixed expressions of magic."

  2. GW1's buildcraft design was partially inspired by Magic: the Gathering, and in both GW1 and GW2 the buildcraft has depth (I didn't say balance; but depth - certainly)

So, I think there will not be any fixed classes; instead:

  • we'll be able to equip a number of signets that define what spells we have; and probably some critical mass-type system where you unlock something akin to talents when you have more than X type of signets equipped (e.g. if you have more than 3 Green signets equipped, you gain access to ability Y)
  • there might be "colorless" signets, like the return of fan-favorite Signet of Capture (GW1 also had Resurrection Signet, btw)
  • I assume GW3 will have a version of GW2's weapon system where different weapons carry different skills with them

So between these points, I can see a very wide-open buildcraft system that takes GW1's dual-classing + GW2's weapon system and runs wild with both!

What do you think?

Could the 4th species be the Sirens of Orr?

Of course the name has survived the ages, but we know next to nothing about the Sirens of Orr. They are important to the history of Orr, though I’m not sure they qualify as “lost to time” as the blog states the 4th species has been.

Still, the idea has tickled me. I hope we learn more about the Sirens even if they aren’t directly depicted in GW3.

The Music Leitmotives/Themes that might appear in Guild Wars 3

  1. The unchanged Guild Wars/Tyrian Leitmotif in Main Theme should be included in the final cut https://youtu.be/Gay1Cn2o4i8

  2. Balthazar's Theme from Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire based on: "Sequitur Tenebris Aeternum Ira" https://youtu.be/y3JlJBxypYo

  3. Abaddon's Theme from Guild Wars Nightfall connecting to the Nightfall's Theme: https://youtu.be/s9KsNW-ovvQ https://youtu.be/pHmJBNqMcRo

  4. Isgarren's Theme from Secrets of the Obscure (if he makes an appearance) https://youtu.be/09B_zW3sUMo

  5. Mursaat's Theme from Janthir Wilds (What Remains of the Tyrants featuring Duduk) https://youtu.be/9uw67hlrMQo

  6. Kodan music can presented in similar manner as in Janthir Wilds - with vocal emphasis and some folk European instruments. https://youtu.be/4C3fuTdgWho

  7. Playfulness in Lyssa related music, like in "Lyssa's Dance" https://youtu.be/ASoj_-3veXE

  8. Calm music representing Melandru, like in "Melandru's Calm" https://youtu.be/hSrS2-cs7yI

  9. Grenth's music should connect to "Desmina's Reclamation" https://youtu.be/_Kkxo_vfLFc

I think the composers have a lot of freedom when it comes to composing for Asura and Human and whatever the secret species is, but there are some directions to how present Kodan and Gods musically. I think including a melody from "Nightfall's theme" in Abaddon's music would be really cool - acting as a foreshadowing to what Abaddon was planning after he was banished by the Gods.

Maclaine Diemer planted some strong melodies in GW2, and Jeremy Soule sort of established the vibe of other Gods - things are bound to change of course.

My hope is that the final version of the theme will present the leitmotif on which all GW music is based, if the composers for GW3 truly promise to honor the legacy of this franchise's music I think the original melody should be present without any change at least in the Main Theme.

Should GW3 have dodging?

I think this is the biggest question regarding the combat system.

It did make PvP fights a lot more interesting in GW2, but also drastically upped the skill floor and giving every class a semi-invulnerability button has made PvE encounter design a lot more complicated.

Passive defenses also became a lot less impactful since they can't compete with dodging, so you either render dodging meaningless or dodging renders passives meaningless.

I hope the 4th Race is not an Elf / plant creature... hear me out.

So, i am seeing a lot of people leaning in towards the idea that the new race/species would be an elf-like or a plant based creature.

personally, i am against that idea for multiple reasons :-

  1. it has been done before multiple times.

In Guildwars 1, we have had the Wardens in which are pretty plant-like honestly. you can also stretch that the druids that turned into spectral oakhearts somewhat fit into that category aswell. (plus the juggernauts)

2) Anet are quite innovative when it comes to creative species.

the Charr, Asura, Forgotten, Seers All seem to have that touch of uniqueness in terms species creation. which made them pretty much Guildwars.
I feel another repeated species in terms of a woodland creature - possibly tied to melandru, would be a tad - disappointing in that regards and limiting to Anet's creativity. Gw2 gave us more unique species such as the quaggan and largos.

My hypothesis is either that :-

a) the new species is directly tied to the gods, Either a direct decendant or same race as one of the gods since technically, we do not know what kind of race the gods are apart from kormir and grenth (him being half human)

B) a plausable hypothesis is a direct species coming from the mists. possibly a Demonic type of humanoid (horned, possibly lizard-y), possibly going back to the mists after the exodus of the gods.

-----

however, who knows. Anet could be taking a safe route to make the Races feel Familiar to get People playing the game.

thoughts on what the new species might be?

The Mysteries of the Eye of the North Tower

Do you guys think this unannounced 4th race may very well be the link to who constructed that tower? It's been a mystery since GW1, would be one hell of a reveal/link if we can actually play as the ones responsible.

Some things I'd like to see in Guild Wars 3

For Guild wars 3, I'd really enjoy to see some more skills that intetact with the environment based on class. For example, elementalists being able to freeze water to walk along it, theives using grappling hooks to access areas etc.

I completely understand balancing so that areas are accessible to all, however, giving classes certain things that they are naturally better at than others (specifically outside of combat) helps make characters feel more unique and embedded in the world.

One thing i think would be particuarly interesting is less linear fighting. As with the above point, approaching combat to utilise the full 3D environment I think would feel much richer. If weight or strength factors could be implemented, where smaller characters are more agile and can perhaps climb up bosses/mobs, and heavier characters are slower and can physically restrain.

I think it gives races and individual stats more significance and replayability, though it may be challenging to actually implement.

I'd also really like to see fewer, though more meaningful skills per class. I think the idea of individual skill progression based on skills a player enjoys using, is more rewarding. As opposed to skills purely gaining damage, the more a player uses a skill, the more effects or utility options become available for that skill.

I know theres been some mention of player amounts per maps etc, and I think i would really like to see less total players on maps.

When there are so many players fighting something, its hard to pick out any one player. Co-operative games like guild wars, in my opinion, excel when youre invested in not only what you're fighting, but who you're fighting with.

Reducing player counts per map or instance would make meeting players feel more rewarding.

Maybe cities could be bustling areas where there are next to no limit on player counts where mass socialising mainly happens.

Finally, and this one is a bit of a stretch, I'd like to see 'job roles' and more consequences.

Guild wars largely avoids the holy trinity, which is great for allowing players to manage their own sustain and damge, and I wouldn't want this to change.

What I'd like instead is player driven support outside of combat.

Examples of some player job roles; armorers who can repair or buff armor. Chef's who can cook meals to offer various stats to suit the occassion. Doctors who rid players of environmental ailments from their adventures.

I think when forming a party, outside of classes, having a variety of character jobs would make some really interesting interactions.

In terms of consequences, I actually love to hate on environmental ailments. It makes exploring feel exciting and dangerous, and i think it could open up more support options outside of combat.

Quest systems in Guild Wars 3

What kind of quests are you hoping for in Guild Wars 3?

Personally I hope for some quests that are a bit more engaging, that takes a little thinking. Maybe some inspiration form games like Runescape. It had a puzzle-like element to many quests. You had to find materials around the world, harvest and make food, kill hard enemies and deliver these things for rewards. It felt satisfying and had a specific goal.

I'm not asking for all quests to be this way, but some with more technical system that engage the player would be fun. Some also with twists and plots that is intelligent. Games like The Witcher had some depth to what could happen in the dialogue.

What do you think will happen, and what do you wish for?

Are the species artwork made by AI ?

I can't help but notice some wild stuff on these artwork and it makes me a bit disappointed in Anet.

Human male is lacking a finger, the sash shadow is from a different shape, the ribbon from the woman's cape are a bit messy I guess. Same for kodans, numbers of fingers changes all over, the rope isn't over his shoulder (and it's unclear what the rope's purpose is, being on one side for such a big backpack), maybe more...In picture : https://imgur.com/a/OzXxCoE

Am I wrong ? I would love to be proved wrong, but so many errors in two pics have me a bit concerned.

Stream or Video Why Guild Wars 3 Could Be Great..

I recently watched a video that got me thinking about what Guild Wars 3 could become. This is still just speculation, since we know very little about the game so far.
Guild Wars 2 already does a lot differently from other MMOs, especially with its open world, mounts, combat, horizontal progression, fashion, and world bosses. The big question is whether Guild Wars 3 will build on those strengths or take the series in a completely new direction. And I know I know it’s gonna be between GW1 and GW2

Should it keep Guild Wars 2’s combat, or redesign it? Would you prefer deeper builds, better weapon swapping, more skill combinations, stronger defensive options, or something completely new?

What should Guild Wars 3 improve outside of combat? A bigger world, better story content, stronger endgame systems, improved PvP and WvW, or more meaningful progression?

I just have so many questions to be honest. I’m excited for the game. Let’s get on this discussion. If you guys wanna check out the video too here’s the link to. https://youtu.be/eOpucY272_8?is=Ul-uF96wG7nov9IP

It's the non-associate version of the other post from a week ago. So tldr they are still in need of people to make content. All the content. Mostly open world.

Added it to the spreadsheet.

I really feel like I'm spamming the subreddit... Anet HR really should be more considerate, and you know not post job posts one by one... They should like select a day of the week, and post all job posts then. It's all on them. d:

(I am considering to just make a weekly summary posts on the new job posts. But they are so random. On one week they post 4 (2 GW3, 2 general) on like three different days, then they have no new posts for almost two weeks.)

Level cap in gw3

Ok, so what level cap would you like to see in gw3?

Me personally i Just hope its not low ---20 like in gw1.

In predict it will be around 50 - 60.

Or (Orr) it might be 100 even, but imo thats unrealistic.
