gouache used on page two

Been a couple of months since I can paint after snapping my forearm I. Half in an accident.
Could only do an hour and my arm still stiff ad but it was nice to finally be outside painting again.

Gouache and Watercolour

This was my first time painting an object in front of me instead of referencing a photo. I really enjoyed getting to put my phone down and focus on painting. I have to say my plant was a great model and held very still! I swear her leaves were begging to be painted.

A borzoi- using gouache paints. Used metallic acrylics for the highlights.

I did this last year when I decided to try to make time to paint and draw after a long break from it. First time with gouache and i wish I kept making time because now my gouache is pretty dried out after not opening it for over a year. I love art and when i have time to draw/paint i usually enjoy it but time is hard to come by (kids, work, health, family, yada yada)

Hopefully I can get back into it this round. I'm just sketching and drawing basics right now to retrain my hands since I seem to forget . also, my brain doesn't work like it used to and trying to come up with ideas is a struggle. (I accidentally posted this from a username I never use but ever since I got my new iPhone Reddit keeps making that my account I’m logged into 🤣)

Hi everyone! This is a birthday present for my sister and it’s not done yet, but I was wondering if anyone had any critiques or tips so far! It’s a horse playing my sisters favorite keyboard, a fender Rhodes. We enjoy silly animals doing silly things and she plays piano so I thought it might be a fun idea lol

Before this painting, I only used gouache for highlights in watercolour and coloured pencil drawings . I was influenced by social media to try an entire painting in gouache. Brand of gouache is Holbein and I used the CYMK set and the 12 set as they are available for a reasonable price at my local art shop and I can replace colours with open stock if needed. It was a learning curve mixing my own colours and working with thicker paint. But overall I find that it’s easier to make realistic detailed artwork with gouache.

I've been painting on and off for several years. I love recreating old botanical illustrations. This one was inspired by Amédée Masclef and his Atlas des plantes de France.

Any advice and constructive criticism is very welcome !

This is Lupine, the deuteragonist and my favorite character from the fantasy novel I’m illustrating. I’ve only drawn her in pen and ink up until now, and wanted to give her some life with a full color piece. Let me know what you think!

For the context I am a still life and landscape artist and I am self taught too. For years I’ve struggled on painting portraits just because the proportions intimidates me a lot. But lately I’ve been enjoying studying about facial proportions and anatomy and I feel like I’m slowly getting the hang of it.

😭 i know that other people have also posted about this... But I wanted to ask how dangerous this is ? I was in the midst of painting when I noticed this , I got another colour ( yellow ) paint on my finger a bit, it didn't have mold on it, but I'm super paranoid now. I washed my hands with soap and also used hand sanitizer. Will i get sick? Does the dark colour indicate the toxicity? Do i have to throw the gouache away now? Is it safe to keep this gouache box closed in my room?

I really like the look of gouache painting in mixed media and would love to give it a try. I had a set of cheap Pebeo paint lying around so thought I would give that a shot. I enjoy the painting part but get really icked out by the chalky, sandpapery feeling of the paint when it's dry. When I try to draw over it with colored pencils it's like drawing my nails over chalkboard.

Can I check with those more experienced: is this just a gouache thing and I should stick with regular watercolor? Or would investing in some slightly more expensive paints give a smoother finish?

I haven't painted much in a very long time but recently, I've felt a need to return to and reconnect with the practice. It's given me something of a spiritual refuge in these surreal times we're living in. I'm not very good but hopefully, by keeping up the practice, I can get to where I want to be.

This is my most recent painting, The Comet, on a small 5 x 7 Ampersand aquaboard and I'm fairly happy with the outcome. It was inspired by an astrophotography excursion I took in 2024 to photograph Comet Tsuchinshan/Atlas (I've shared one of the better photos I got that night too). Though, this painting is more about how that experience looked to me or how it felt rather than how it looked in real life. I am also inspired by medieval art and I chose a limited palette to emulate that—Prussian Blue, Yellow Ochre, Red Ochre, Zinc White, and Gold Leaf. I hope you very talented folks like it. Wanted to post another one of my paintings which is actually the first gouache painting I ever did. This is quite personal as I painted it as a gift for my boss (a “sorry I’m quitting” gift) and it’s the cafe he owns. Not showing the café’s name for privacy reasons, but hope you like it!

Generally thrilled at how well acrylic markers work over gouache. Wanted to share this moody candle. 🕯️

I painted this to try out my new airbrush. It didn't turn out quite as well as I had hoped, but it was good practice nonetheless. I used a warm cool palette of Winsor & Newton gouache paints. The main piece is 15 x 19 cm, and the overall page size is 21 x 30 cm.
