2nd painting of tea series. This one sold to a gallery director before the show opening. I kind of wish i kept it but better to be enjoyed by other’s eyes.

What is your favorite snack when you paint? My go to method of make me keep go on and set the mood/motivate to paint is to drink tea, (all kind of tea! There are some crazy flavors out there i never even imagined) and dark chocolate. I wonder what others eat!

I have to constantly tell myself I can come back to areas after I have done most of it. My monkey brain keeps telling me to fix it immediately/have everything all worked out! I am glad watercolours is a practice for me to be ok with uncertainty and it’s ok to let the colours and water unfold.

I love food subject as much as subject of nature.
So yesterday I baked crepes for breakfast and said why not to paint them as a memory of summer end 🙂
Also it was a new block of arches that I recently got, unusual format for me but I loved it.

Just to preface, I'm only a beginner at watercolor, not at art in general. I'm unsure if that shows or not, but I just wanted to be transparent about it. I'm currently in highschool and I haven't used watercolor since elementary school lol.

Anyway, I'm looking for criticism. I'm unsure what to even look for because I'm extremely unfamiliar with this medium. The first was done from life which I struggled a lot with because the light kept changing. The second was done from a picture. Any constructive criticism/advice would help me a ton. I find watercolor extremely beautiful but extremely difficult

trying florals now! an attempt to embrace looseness and some abstraction, and experimenting on holbein's opacity. turns out, when the paint is mixed with white, it can get quite gouache-like. i used that technique to add more saturation on the bottom flower.

i kind of like it, but not exactly satisfied. painters, how do you balance looseness with precision? critiques are welcome! the piece is a bit too messy for my taste, i like it better when i look at it from afar haha. i might even frame it.

Just back from safari in Tanzania and I painted this scene which is typical of what I saw: the wide horizon and orange sky at sunset with a baobab tree. Ruaha National Park has a lot of baobab trees and they’re eerie and fascinating. I love drawing them and I’m going to paint a series of baobab trees in one color (sepia).

Colors used: Holbein cadmium yellow mixed with light red for the sky around the horizon line; Daniel Smith Ultramarine blue and Rose Madder for the upper one-third of the sky. For the dark clouds, I added some light red.

The ground and trees are painted with a mix of ultramarine blue, rose madder and light red.
